PRIME TIMERS BBQ The Prime Timers annual BBQ picnic was held at Burroughs Park on Wednesday, April 29. The morning started out brisk but it turned into a beautiful day for outdoor fellowship.
During the dark days of late May when the rain seemed to never end and the flood waters kept rising all over Texas and Houston, I thought of a little book written by my friend James W. Moore. The title of the book is “Noah Built His Ark in the Sunshine.” I was interested in the news interviews of victims of the rising waters and howling winds. A reporter would ask someone who had lost everything and the reply would be total despair and emotional collapse. “I don’t know how we’ll make it. The future looks so bleak.” Another reporter would ask someone else who had lost everything and the reply would be quite different. “We have lost our home and most of our possessions, but that can eventually be replaced. We have insurance and, more importantly, we have family, friends, and our faith to support us and sustain us. We’ll be OK.” What a difference! Noah prepared in advance for the storm that was to come. He used the days in the sunshine to build up the resources he would need when the dark floodwaters came. And people of faith have always done that. One of our great hymns of faith is “Stand by Me.” The first verse says, “When the storms of life are raging, stand by me. When the world is tossing me, like a ship upon the sea, thou who rulest wind and water, stand by me.” If we work on building our ark of faith every day, we’ll be ready when the storms of life come our way. And we’ll always know who is standing by us no matter how intense the storm may be. Your friend, Don
