It only takes seconds for an accident to happen but it takes a life time to deal with the consequences of knowing that your child suffered or worse, because you couldn’t provide them the best possible Emergency First Aid, prior to the arrival of the Professionals. It’s fair to say that most parents understand the importance of emergency first aid training but unfortunately more than half never ‘get round’ to it. This could be for many reasons: Some chose to ignore the idea believing it will never happen (until the life critical time it does). Others think calling an for an ambulance will be enough. But consider this... You discover your baby/child or other loved one unconscious and not breathing. You’re otherwise alone, with no knowledge of effective CPR. Your heart is suddenly beating faster than it’s ever felt before. What are you meant to do, push on their chest a bit? But how hard, how many times? How many breaths should you put into their mouth? You look at them lying there, motionless and grey. You feel bewildered, afraid. What if you press too hard or not hard enough? You fumble frantically for your mobile phone, and with shaking hands unlock it, dial 999 and explain the circumstances and give your location to the operator. 60 seconds have passed. The emergency call is dispatched to the nearest ambulance crew that
happen to be at a stand by point on the outskirts of town. On receiving the call, the crew run downstairs, out of the building and into the ambulance. The driver starts up, then, with lights, siren and seat belts on, they pull away. By the point at which they are able to safely enter onto the main road another minute has passed. It then takes 5 minutes for the crew to get through rush
In this circumstance would the casualty live? If they did survive would they be brain damaged from lack of oxygen? Being that this is a hypothetical emergency it’s impossible to say of course. What is fact however, is that the best survival rates where cardiac arrest has occurred, apply to casualties that received the earliest possible CPR, early defibrillation and early advanced care. If you’re a parent and wouldn’t know what to do if the above was your emergency - for their sake, act now!! 2015 could be the year you make a life saving difference!!

1. Cheetah
Cheetah mothers raise their cubs alone. They move their litter every four days to prevent a build‑up of smell that predators can track. After 18 months of training as hunters, the cheetah cubs leave their mothers and form a sibling group that will stay together for another six months.
2. Orangutan
During the first two years of life, young orangutans rely entirely on their mothers for both food and transportation. The mums stay with their young for 6–7 years, teaching them where to find food, how to eat and build a sleeping nest. Female orangutans are known to “visit” their mothers until they reach the age of 15 or 16.
3. Emperor Penguin After laying an egg, the mother emperor penguin leaves it with a male who protects the fragile hard shell from the elements. The mother then travels up to 50 miles to reach the ocean and fish. She later returns to the hatching site to regurgitate the food to the newly hatched chicks. Using the warmth of her own brood pouch, the mother keeps the chick warm and safe.
4. Elephant Elephants live in a matriarchal society, so other females in the social group help a calf to its feet after birth and show the baby how to nurse. The older elephants adjust the pace of the herd so the calf can keep stride. By watching the adults, the calf learns which plants to eat and how to access them. The females regularly make affectionate contact with the calf.

Harp Seal As if raising a child on a moving sheet of ice patrolled by polar bears and fur poachers weren’t hard enough, the harp seal mum nurses her pup on 48% fat seal milk continuously for 12 days without eating. Her pup will gain an average of 5 lb. per day during this 12-day nursing period, while Mum herself will lose about 7 lb. per day.
Polar bear cubs stick by their mums for two years to learn the survival skills needed for the cold climate. The mothers dig into deep snow drifts, creating a den protected from the elements. The cubs leave the den in spring to get used to outside temperatures before learning to hunt.
...and 1 of the worse... Perhaps the most famous bad mother - the cuckoo tricks other birds into raising her own youngster, freeing her up to enjoy life as a single bird. She does this by laying her eggs in the nest of another bird. Unfortunately for her victims, the cuckoo chick is hardly a grateful adoptee. Instead, the chick hatches earlier and grows faster than he other bird’s real brood, forcing the smaller chicks out of the nest to die. Shame on them!

On this occasion Rob will be bringing an initial selection of well-loved cheeses but he will be canvassing your opinion for what else should be offered. Every Last Crumb are a mother and son team, Susan and Rupert Lloyd from Banbury. On their stall they will be selling fresh homemade quiches, savoury pies, pasties, delicious homemade sausage rolls, cheese scones. Cats Brewing Co are two friends (Chris and Tom) who had grown sick and tired of working the normal 9 to 5, they desperately wanted to do something different and have fun doing it. The answer was obvious. Make their own beer, sell it to the thirsty public and drink the surplus themselves! Their full range will be available to take away and can bought to drink on the night from Bar King. Hot Food Special this month, being cooked and served to you by Smart Cookies will be Thai salmon fishcakes with spring rolls and salad, available to eat in or take away. Our Community Stall will be Party in the Park selling tickets for their fundraiser, ‘Spring Fling’ Ceilidh, being held on 28th March in the Institute.
