220g Soft Light Brown Sugar 2 Large Eggs 225g Unsalted Butter 1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract 250g Plain Flour Pinch Salt 150g Milk Chocolate Chips 15 Mini Cadbury Caramel Eggs or any others you like, or break up 3 Cadbury Caramel Bars
Method 1 Grease and line an 8x8 baking tray and preheat an oven to 180C. 2.Melt the butter in a small pot, allow to cool and mix with the brown sugar in a medium sized bowl. 3. Beat until the butter and brown sugar is smooth.

4. Beat in the vanilla and eggs, one at a time. 5. Add in the flour and salt and half mix in. 6. Scatter over the chocolate chips and fully mix in until the flour is just incorporated. 7. Pour into the prepared baking tray. 8. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. 9. Half the Cadbury Caramel Eggs or Chop up Caramel Bars (tip : putting them in the freezer for 30 minutes to firm up will make them easier to chop!). 10. After 20 minutes, remove the blondies from the oven and lay the caramel halves of the eggs/bars on top, alternating between the cut side and the non cut side. 11. Place back in the oven for 5 minutes to melt the caramel eggs and just finish cooking the blondies. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely before cutting into 15 blondies. What’s going on in the local area?
Keep Southam Blooming As you approach Southam by road, you can hardly fail to notice the signs saying ‘Britain in Bloom Winner’ or the tubs brimming with flowering plants. But have you ever wondered who makes these things happen? It’s not the local council, although they do provide some of the finance as do some local businesses. It is a group of enthusiastic individuals collectively known as ‘Southam in Bloom’.
There is a small committee and there is a fairly large group of helpers. The committee plans the displays and finds ingenious ways to obtain funds. The band of helpers does just what the name suggests, and the tasks include fund raising and caring for the planters spread around the town. Greenleaf, the local nursery, supplies, installs and waters the various hanging baskets and troughs. If you would like to see Southam continue to bloom – even to be a winner again – do please support us. Just come along to one of our meetings held at 7.30 pm for about an hour on the second Tuesday of each month at Southam Sports and Social Club in School Street. We would very much welcome new committee members with new ideas, but if you prefer simply to take on a small share of the maintenance work this would be highly valued too. Southam Carnival 25th May 2015, theme this year is Superheroes and Villains, so all welcome to join in either walking or on a vehicle the procession this year will follow the same revised route as last year. Outside of these hours do not worry, as we can deliver emergency food packs to you. When at the Graham Adams Centre you will be meet by one of the volunteers no one will be judgemental and you will be treated with courtesy and kindness. We can also offer a snack meal or hot drink which will be free to you as part of your voucher. We are part of the Trussell Trust charity which was founded in 1997 and is founded on Christian principles.

Gardening with the Kids
Most children love being outdoors, although some need gentle persuasion from leaving the games console, introducing your kids to the joys of nature is something we should do to pass down our knowledge in the same way as we do in the kitchen. It can develop into a passion and growing vegetables can also combat fussy eaters and teaches where our food comes from. Enticing them outside in the fresh air and getting us all back to basics in this techie twenty-first century world can’t be a bad thing either. You don’t have to have a big garden in order to do this pastime, pots and hanging baskets are just as effective and can be more enjoyable as they require watering on a daily basis - water and kids, a recipe for fun along with giving responsibility and independence skills. If you have lots and enthusiasm and a little knowledge you are qualified, so don’t worry if you’re not Alan Titchmarsh’s standard! To get things started, planting seeds are always fun. Look for quick success to get them hooked without having to wait an eternity. Or choose one with quick germination along with something else that takes a little longer and plant at the same time. This way you are able to focus on the quick grow ing one while the other one takes. Choosing a mixture of vegetables and herbs, and the flowering type gives diversity and see which your children prefer.
Spark interest with quick grow seeds
I think we all have school memories of growing cress in a boiled egg shell to make a funny ‘hairy’ character. It’s such a great place to start as it’s easy-peasy lemon squeezy! Place cress seeds on some damp kitchen roll on a saucer, put on the kitchen window sill and wait a couple of days, or sooner. I love the almost instant result you have with cress that gets the interest going for youngsters. For another quick result, sunflowers are a good choice and give a showy display. They can grow to quite a size too. For added appeal you could have a bit of a competition going to see who grows the tallest, the largest flower, the one that produces the most seeds (and so on and so forth to hopefully make everyone a winner!). Sow straight outside in a sunny spot in well drained soil or if this isn’t possible, why not try a pot? Slugs are snails can be a bit of a problem, so protect them by cutting the top and bottom off a plastic bottle and placing around the shoot. As they get taller, add a cane and tie the shoot loosely to it to steady them and keep them straight. Label them with an old lollipop stick and away you go! When they’re flowering season is over, watch the birds have a tasty sunflower seed feast. Other quick growing seeds include sweet cherry or grape tomatoes and are tasty snacks right from the vine, many herbs and most wildflowers. These are great for cutting and taking inside for Grandma perhaps! Snapdragons are fun plants for kids, not only by their many colours and sizes, but also by pinching the blossoms to make the dragon’s mouth open.
Develop new skills and knowledge
There’s so much to learn and involve children in. You could explain that plants need light and water to grow and flourish and organise experiments to see which seed grows the best under which condition to affirm the point. Leaming to follow instructions is another important life skill for older children and learning new vocabulary. Younger ones love plants which stimulate the senses. Asking them to smell the scent of herbs and flowers, and touching leaves for example can be a talking point and encourages communication skills. Talking about the environment and why we should encourgage wildlife into the garden along with good and bad insects for example are other topics you could touch on. You could then follow up your discoveries and sparked interest by taking a trip the the library to find out more and start the adventure together.
