When Captain Chris Rigby retired from operational flying 2 years ago, he wondered how he could somehow utilise the flying knowledge that he had acquired over the last 40 years. With over 20,000 flight hours, mainly on the Boeing 737, and having worked for Britannia/Thomsons Airways, British Airways, easyJet and lastly Ryanair, he wanted to find something that would allow him to share that experience with everyone who was interested in flying.

Chris, who regularly lectures about aviation on cruise ships around the world and runs Fear of Flying courses, hit on the idea of buying and operating a flight simulator for the general public to live out their dream. He located a real motion simulator, a Boeing 737-800, originally owned by Sabena Airlines of Belgium, that was for sale. This was shipped to Coventry Airport last May and has since then it has had hundreds of wanabee pilots testing their metal in one of the most pressure environments in the world. Just recently a Boeing 747-400, which was one of Aer Lingus’s training machines has been added to the fleet and is now ready for boarding. Most of the instructors at Flight Simulators Midlands are retired airline pilots who have thousands of hours in aircraft of all types and have flown the world. Situated in the hangar of the Coventry Aeroplane Club, would be pilots first have a half hour briefing on how a modern aircraft flies and works. They then make their way past the real aircraft in the hangar before boarding the aircraft of their choice. Their instructor will make sure they are seated comfortably and strapped in and they are off, around the mountains of Salzburg or the skyscrapers of Hong Kong. Guests can choose from a number of different airports, worldwide, to fly to and

Andy explained how a dog photoraphy session would work: “The most important thing when working with any animal is that they are relaxed and do not get stressed in any way, the last thing a client would want is a photo of a stressed dog on their wall. So before I bring out my camera, I spend some time with the dog to make sure they feel safe and trust me. As the owner of four dogs myself, I have learnt through my work and own dogs how to get the very best from my subjects in a relaxed and playful manner. The photo sessions would generally last two hours and in that time I will take hundreds of images, this is so important as one slight look or flick of the head may be the exact look we are looking for and unless you take lots of photographs you will never capture that special shot. Within the session I would get lots of portrait shots, head shots which can look great in black and white too and running actions shots with balls and toys which is the one shot that everyone wants. Before a session starts I will also take a brief from the client and ask the types of shots they are looking for me to capture, this is very important as my ideas may not be the same as the clients and so its vital I get a good insight into exactly what it is they are looking for. The key thing is to make the session fun for dog/s and owners and this is the thing that people say the most when the session has finished which is brilliant. I then go away and edit all of the images from the session and place them on a Private Gallery on my website which is password protected for clients to view and make their selection in the comfort of their own home.
