Cheers abound for York’s Parapan Am athletes Sitting volleyball team has fans from West Park Healthcare

FANNIE SUNSHINE fsunshine@insidetoronto.com A smorgasbord of red and white clothing, flags, banners, and noise makers filled the stands inside Scarborough’s Aquatic Centre and Field

House Monday evening as a preliminary round of men’s sitting volleyball saw Canada pitted against the United States – a team Canada must finish ahead of if they want a shot at competing at the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games.

The Canuck team ended up falling to the Americans 25-21, 25-20, 25-18. A subsequent victory over Mexico Tuesday left Canada with a 2-2 record heading into yesterday’s (after The Guardian’s deadline) game against Colombia. A rematch

against the U.S. today in the semifinals, a game they would have to win to keep their Rio hopes alive, is a strong possibility. Gold, bronze, and fifthsix place matches will be held Friday. >>>FANS, page 9
