Toronto Water project is now underway across the city to replace well-aged watermains. However, even as the work is taking place new challenges arise. See page 3

Mount Dennis musician AHI ready for Buskerfest LISA RAINFORD lrainford@insidetoronto.com There is no rivalry among musicians at the annual Toronto International BuskerFest for Epilepsy; instead there’s a feeling of camaraderie, according to songwriter and independent

recording artist Ahkinoah Izarh – known professionally as AHI (pronounced ‘eye’). “You’re competing with yourself for the audience’s attention,” said AHI. “You have to play your heart out. It’s overwhelming, in a good way.” This will be AHI’s second

appearance at BuskerFest, which takes place this year in Woodbine Park over the Sept. 2 to 5 Labour Day weekend. The festival, established in 1999, boasts acts from around the world performing in a wide variety of mediums including comedians, musicians,

daredevils, magicians, circus acts, clowns, contortionists, acrobats, aerialists, puppets, and entertainers there are no words to describe. “There is raw talent everywhere. Everyone is so talented; everyone is giving 110 per cent,” AHI said. “You have a mutual respect.”

The Mount Dennis resident and self-described emerging artist is no stranger to busking having begun doing so on Toronto’s harbourfront. The Brampton native did not grow up in a musical family; he got his start in a band as a rapper-poet. >>>AHI, page 5
