Just as the kitchen is the heart of a home, so too is it for the nonprofit organization FoodShare which provides healthy food

and food education to communities across Toronto. It is far more than its appliances and cabinets – it’s where FoodShare offers a place, for example, for women receiving breast cancer treatment to

cook together; it’s where young people learn the importance of a healthy diet, not to mention a space where people generally connect. Yet the food agency is gearing up for a move from its current

location in a Toronto District School Board (TDSB) building at Bloor West and Dufferin streets to the Mount Dennis neighbourhood where its new space is lacking a kitchen. At >>>new, page 13

Whether it’s through ball hockey, photography, chess, or camping, 12 Division police officers are engaging youth, especially those who live in communities the city has identified as ‘Neighbourhood Improvement Areas’. The division has seven of the 37 neighbourhoods determined by the Toronto Strong Neighourhoods Strategy 2020 as areas where the city needs to prioritize its resources, said police Supt. Scott Weidmark, a 37-year veteran of the force, who has been at the division for the past two years. Weidmark, along with some of his officers, joined frontline youth and community workers for a discussion on how police officers and local agencies can work together to ensure the safety of children, teens, and young adults, while keeping them from making the wrong decisions. “You’re working hard and diligently,” Weidmark told rep>>>meeting, page 11
