PATRICIA’S STORY

’ Welcome to our annual Hospital for Sick Children – or SickKids – themed edition. While you will find your regular community stories and features in The York Guardian, the balance of stories are in support of Healthy and Happy Month at SickKids. Why do we do this? The health of our children is too important. There are far too many signs our children simply aren’t as healthy as we were during our own youth. For instance, in a recent SickKids Health and Happy Pulse Check survey, 79 per cent of adults 55 and older think children’s lifestyles are not as healthy today as compared to their own childhood. That belief – and actuality needs to be reversed. The stories you see here are just a sample of the stories appearing today in community newspapers across >>>SUPPORTING, page 8

Easy access to Weston farmers’ market despite John St. closure CLARK KIM ckim@insidetoronto.com Despite the recent closure of John Street in Weston, residents will still have access to the farm-

ers’ market every Saturday morning at the Toronto Parking Authority lot at 14 John St. “This year, the farmers’ market will have a lot more entertainment over the season

starting June 7,” said Masum Hossain, chair of the Weston Village Business Improvement Area (BIA), noting there will be buskers on site each week. While the market has already

opened unofficially since May 10, Hossain said the grand opening will be held June 14, kicking off with a free waffle breakfast from 8 to 9 a.m., courtesy of >>>MARKET’S, page 8
