Future of Oakwood station murky
Scary fun set for Oakwood Village on Saturday Ghosts and ghouls will haunt York during the Oakwood Village Halloween Street Party Saturday. The event, co-hosted by Oakwood Village Community Association, Councillor Josh Colle and 13 Division police station, will be held on Glenora Avenue from 1 to 4 p.m. The party will include a barbecue, bouncy castle, craft sale, face painting and games. Kids can bring their bicycles to decorate with art supplies before riding in a parade at 2 p.m.
Proximity to other stations on LRT line hurting candidacy RAHUL GUPTA rgupta@insidetoronto.com A senior Metrolinx official has retracted statements he made at a public meeting this week, which indicated the transit planning agency had ruled out adding an Oakwood Avenue stop to the station map for the Eglinton-Scarborough Crosstown light rail transit line. Responding to a question from resident Claudia Giraldo, Jamie Robinson, director of community relations for rapid transit implementation, said Monday that adding Oakwood to the planned list of stations was unlikely to happen. The evening had been organized by St. Paul’s Councillor Josh Matlow. “What we’ve said is we’ll proceed as if Oakwood will be there, but at this particular point in time Oakwood will not be one of the stations included,” said Robinson on Monday evening. But on Tuesday morning Robinson retracted that statement and stressed no final decision has yet been made on the fate of Oakwood. “I did misspeak to some extent,” said Robinson who blamed his error >>>oakwood, page 8

A ceremony honouring the late Pantelis Kalamaris will take place Saturday at noon at 8 John St. The section of John Street from Weston Road to the railway tracks will be dedicated as “Pantelis Kalamaris Gardens” in honour of Peter Kalamaris, who opened Peter’s Barber Shop at 4 John St. in 1961. The John Street name will remain, however an honorary sign will be posted above the street sign, reading “Pantelis Kalamaris Gardens.” An official naming of an un-named laneway off John Street will be named “Pantelis Kalamaris Ln.” Everyone is welcome to attend.
