Celebrate history of St. Clair Streetcar at Wychwood
first day jitters
Celebrate the centennial anniversary of the St. Clair Avenue Streetcar and Wychwood Carhouse, also known as the Artscape Wychwood Barns, on Tuesday, Sept. 10. The Wychwood Barns Community Association is organizing the opening ceremony and reception in the Covered Street Barn from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. The free event will have a cash bar and light refreshments, and feature the Vincent Bertucci Band. Following the kick-off event, learn about the neighbourhood’s heritage by taking part in a scavenger hunt, watching a silent film screening series by the Revue Cinema or taking a tour of an old TTC streetcar.

A provincially funded program that saw extra police officers deployed in York South-Weston over the summer came to an end with a community celebration at Nelson A. Boylen Collegiate last Thursday. The Toronto Anti-Violence Intervention Strategy (TAVIS) initiative kicked off in early June with 24 additional police constables and four staff sergeants to provide extra community safety. “Just because the money stops doesn’t mean the policing will stop,” assured 12 Division Insp. Scott Gilbert. While the initiative began with law enforcement, officers also took time to connect and better engage with residents from youths to seniors. He listed several neighbourhood events the police attended this past summer including Neighbours Night Out on Elm Street, the weekend farmers’ market in Weston, and Rookie Ball games hosted by >>>police, page 2
