The Alzheimer’s Society of Toronto is celebrating World Alzheimer’s Day next Wednesday by officially opening its first-ever satellite office at St. Clair West Services for Seniors (SCWSS). The Alzheimer’s society, whose mission is to alleviate the impact of the disease and other dementias while promoting research, along with the local charitable, non-profit seniors’ organization, will host an open house to raise awareness of the new service in the neighbourhood. “Our main location is at Yonge and Eglinton, which can be tricky to get to for some clients,” Victoria Jakobson, a social worker at The Alzheimer’s Society of Toronto, told The York Guardian. “One of our goals is to be out in the community to better serve the needs of the community.” The satellite location, which quietly opened earlier this summer, is available to caregivers and clients to address any needs that may arise, Jakobson said. etrolinx is hinting at a cleaner energy alternative for an unpopular natural gas plant it’s proposing to build as a backup power source for the Eglinton Crosstown, a light rail transit (LRT) line being built across Eglinton Avenue between Mount Dennis (Weston
Road) and Kennedy station. The plant, which could be as tall as four or five storeys, is to be located at the agency’s planned Mount Dennis facility on the former Kodak Lands.
