THE YORK SCHOOL
A MESSAGE FROM THE HEADMISTRESS 1995 marks the 30th anniversary of The York School (formerly York Montessori School). It was in September of 1965, that the first classes opened at Grace Church-on-the-Hill for 3-6 year old children. The school grew, adding Casa locations until, in 1971, we had four small schools serving various areas of the city. In 1978, the Board of Directors made a decision to add a grade 1 class and to proceed year by year to develop a full elementary programme and, in 1985, we had our first Grade 8 graduating class. The York School's elementary curriculum became a unique combination of Montessori and other sound educational philosophies and practices. We quickly became known for our academic programme, as well as the strength of our music, art and physical education programmes. This annual publication gives you a taste of just how many of our students are involved in activities in addition to their academics. We believe that these kinds of experiences make the difference in educating the whole child. EXPERIENTIA DOCET Thanks to our Yearbook Committee for another winner!

INTERLINK IS
• • •
A unique intergenerational programme that brings together children and older adults through the celebration of words and music. The exchange of pen pal letters and the formation of an intergenerational choir help in the building of warm and meaningful relationships.
Bonds are created, life experiences are shared and a wonderful sense of achievement is felt by the seniors and young people alike.
The York Interlink programme was initiated last year by Mrs. Lewis with our Grade 5 children and a lively group of seniors. Their hard work culminated in a concert at Fairview Theatre june 1st.

DORSET Seniors Visit the Frost Centre The Leslie M. Frost Centre, owned and operated by the Ministry of Natural Resources, is named in honour of the late Premier of Ontario. The goal of the centre is to foster an appreciation for Canada's natural resources as well as their management and use. This aim is achieved through a wide variety of educational hands-on programmes taught by experts in the fields of forestry, biology, geology and wildlife management. York students participate in a range of activities carefully selected to enrich our curriculum at school and also have opportunities to simply enjoy the outdoor setting.
