hat do you remember of the year, 2012-13? Was it the weather, or was it those who weathered the storm? For although Hurricane Sandy tops the charts as the most followed news story of this time, it is the people we really remember. We may not remember the questions on the IB exams, the score of the staff-student basketball game (Staff 58- Students 30, in case you've forgotten 1), or the ten attributes of the Learner Profile that greeted us each morning as we made your way up the main stairs. But we do remember those who took the exams, shot the ball, and climbed the stairs. We remember a human-eating plant, a relay team of the fastest four grade 9s ever, teachers who cared, and perhaps even a principal who thought he could dance "Gangnam Style". But just in case you have forgotten, you merely need to open this book and let a flood of memories overwhelm you. Thank you to Daniela, Ms Aragona, and all those who helped work on this year's "Higher Perspective", for you have captured the 2012- 13 that is really worth remembering.

David Hamilton Principal of the Senior School
his year marked the beginning of a new Middle School, a time to pursue a personal best and explore new opportunities in the community. These opportunities included experiential events, clubs and athletics. Middle School life at York was often centered in the new commons area, affectionately known as the 'mosey'. This was the hub of student life, news, meetings, snack time and gatherings. It is a place where our students could cross paths and connect with each other. Our students represented the Middle School at several CAIS events including Ontario Model Parliament, Debating competitions, Mandarin Arts Festival, the Sterling Hall Public Speaking Competition, Kiwanis Music Festival, to name a few. The engagement and achievements of our n~ at these events is a testament to ttieir knowledge, open-mindedness and risk-tal<•ng. School life included a rich array of clubs to balance learning. Lego robotics was the newest and most popular offering and achieved exemplary first year results. Ottl•~ c:lub pursyits ranged from Reach for the Top, Gardening Club to more creat1ve 6utl• ts such as Intermediate Science Olympics , Latch Hooking Club, ~HeerleaCiing, Honor. Band and OJ Club. Middle School athletics offered other :II"'''II UA I opportunities to be engaged and become part of a community. While us of Middle Scliool athletics is developmental, our U~2 girls' basketball - ..........1 teams also took home championship banners. Participation in lay, 'Once Upon a High School' showcased the best of our students ... n.ur.:~ •......~-..·· Cleclication to rehearsals , and then outstanding and
