For the second year, The York School will host the CSIAA Coaching Symposium, bringing coaches of all levels together from across the country for three days of intensive coaching development and training. Sessions will take place in the classroom, on the field and in the gym and will be led by Canada’s most sought -after professional coaches and athletes who have all the tools you need to take your athletic program to the next level.

gym session: Creating Culture in Sport Today’s athletes face so many outside pressures. School, work and volunteer commitments are tough to balance, and creating a team culture can be difficult. Coach Cheng has been lucy enough to pick the brain of Duke’s Coach K, and will share his knowledge related to team culture. Session led by Chris Cheng

Classroom session: Hockey Sense This informative session will provided coaches with information on how sport science is used to improve performance. Coaches will come out of this session with data that can be used to better develop practice plans and improve the hockey culture in your school. Session led by John Cullen

Gym session: skills and systems for high school volleyball Coach Dustin Reid is the first CIS coach to oversee both a women’s and men’s program at Ryerson University. He will share his knowledge related to skill development and team concepts that will help your program go to the next level. Session led by Dustin Reid

Gym session: FOUNDATIONS OF VOLLEYBALL

Creative integration of FUNdamental volleyball skills are vital in promoting the sport of volleyball for the younger ages. This session will focus specifically on the sport of volleyball. Session led by Janet Cobbs Mulholland

Turf session: skills & systems for the U9 - U13 Soccer Player Creative integration of foundational soccer skills is vital in promoting the sport of soccer. This session will focus on practice planning, sport specific skills, while enhancing knowledge and understanding of the sport. Session led by Peyvand Mossavant

gym session: developing the complete Badminton Player Badminton continues to be a popular sport worldwide. This session will provide you with drills and concepts that will help develop both your novice and advanced athletes. Session led by Stephane Cadieux

Gym session: Advanced basketball concepts This session will provide workouts and concepts for both middle and high school coaches. The workshop is inclusive, progressive and individualized, while allowing for full integration into team strategy. Session led by Joe Raso

Gym session: Complete athlete development: Bringing it all together The comprehensive athlete development program raises the bar above all others when it comes to sport specific training. This unique workshop is designed for the ‘Whole Athlete,’ combining health, wellness, mental training and what athletes need for their overall development. Professional Basketball Player

NBA & Canadian national team Scout

Power-forward, Chelsea Aubry plays for the Canadian women’s national basketball team. She competed in the 2012 Olympic Games and, as team captain in 2012, she helped Canada reach the quarter-finals.

Raso is a former Canadian university basketball coach of 18 years with a career winning record of 70%. He was a National Team Assistant Coach and is now an NBA advanced Scout & Head Scout Canadian National Team.

JANET COBBS MULHOLLAND

Professional Lacross instuctor & Former NLL player Stouros is a 3x National Lacrosse Champion and was the O.L.A. top graduating player in 2015. Stouros played in the NLL for the Georgia Swarm. He is the Lead Instructor of Lacrosse development for Rising Stars.

THERESA BURNS Women’s basketball head coach, mcmaster In her 15 years at McMaster, Burns has led the team to 4 OUA Champions, 8 CIS National appearances and has been the OUA Coach of the Year 3 times.

Volleyball coach & olympic medal winner During her playing career, she was an All-American at North Dakota State University and won a bronze medal for the US at the 1992 Summer Olympics.

JARRETT SMITH Former CFL Player & Director, Rising Stars Smith won the Grey Cup with the Hamilton Tiger Cats in ‘99 and had an 8-year career in the CFL. He is Director of Athletic Performance & Football Development for Rising Stars.

Men’s Basketball Head coach, nippising

Reid is in his 9th year with Ryerson’s women’s program and his 2nd year as Head Coach of the men’s volleyball program. He is a former Canadian national team player who representated Canada in 120+ international meatches.

Cheng is a NCCP Learn to Win Competitive Development Advanced Certified Coach and Learn to Train and Train to Train Learning Facilitator. He is Head Coach of Nippising University’s men’s basketball program.

PAUL HRKAL, ND naturopath

PEYVAND MOSSAVANT Women’s Soccer Head coach, UOIT Mossavat joined UOIT after 8 years coaching the Ryerson Rams and York Lions. He has a USSF National A licence and works at the national training centre of Ontario as Head Coach of the U14 girls provincial team.

Hockey Canada High performance coach

Cadieux served as a National Coach for Badminton Canada’s senior & junior national teams. He is a Level 4 NCCP certified coach with a diploma in high performance coaching from the National Coaching Institute.

With a Ph.D. in Biodynamics, Cullen is a Hockey Canada High Performance Coach and Evaluator of the OMHA U17 Hockey Canada Program of Excellence.
