Monday, March 21st, 2022 Dear York School Parent/Guardian(s) ALIVE Outdoors is a Toronto based experiential education organization that for 22 years has worked with Independent Schools to engage students in meaningful outdoor, international, and city-based character development programming. We are grateful for the opportunity to deepen our partnership with The York School to deliver a meaningful outdoor learning experience for the Grade 9-12 students. THIS PACKAGE CONTAINS THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS: (1) ALIVE Outdoors Acknowledgement of Risk, Waiver and Indemnity Agreement; (2) Health Information Form; and (3) Clothing and Equipment List. Please visit www.aliveoutdoors.com/faq to review our Frequently Asked Questions regarding ALIVE’s campbased programs. We strongly encourage all families to use the resources available on our website to prepare and discuss the value of participating in our programs. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: This program will take place on Tuesday, September 6 – Friday September 9, 2022 at Camp Timberlane. The Grade 11 & 12 students will participate in the program from Tuesday – Friday while the Grade 9 & 10 students will arrive on Wednesday, September 7 and stay until Friday. Through play, physical activity, and reflection in the natural environment, this intentionally designed program will deepen each student’s connection to The York School community and the natural world while building confidence in their personal strengths. This united upper school experience will focus on deepening students understanding of citizenship and personal leadership as well as strengthening community connections across all grades. STAYING HEALTHY: During the past two years we have collectively been confronted by the ongoing impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The situation has challenged each of us in our daily lives and the lives of many in the communities we are all part of. To best provide meaningful outdoor education programming we will continue to monitor the situation closely and make health and safety decisions based on public health recommendations and best practices. You can help us create safe spaces for all students and instructors this fall by completing our Health Information Form in detail and not sending your student if they are feeling ill. Your school representative will inform you of any vaccine or proof of vaccine requirements closer to the start of the program. We thank you in advance for your understanding as we work with our site partners to provide the safest community experience we can at this time. Students are required to bring the following items, when applicable: • Any student with a known anaphylactic allergy is required to bring a minimum of two epinephrine autoinjectors (ex., Epi-Pen, Emerade, or similar) to the program. • All relevant medications, daily medications, inhalers, etc. must be stored and labelled with directions for use. Teachers must be made aware of, and are required to, administer all prescription and nonprescription medications during an ALIVE Program unless otherwise agreed upon with a school health representative or administrator. • Two personal face masks and/or approved face coverings per day. • Please have your student bring a NUT FREE bagged lunch on either Tuesday, September 6, 2022 for the Grade 11 & 12 students or Wednesday, September 7, 2022 for the Grade 9 & 10 students. Other than this lunch, please DO NOT bring extra food of any kind for any other day of the program
