Wood and Emily Cunningham Empress Walk, 5095 Yonge St, North York, ON M2N 6Y7 Monday March 4th Meet at York School Lobby a 10:00am Return to the York School lobby at 1:00pm As part of the French DP language B program, students study the themes of ‘Cultural Identity’ and ‘Social Relations’. Attending the 2023 Romeo and Juliet inspired film 16 Ans touches on many of these themes in a Parisian context. It is important that students be exposed to French language and culture outside the classroom for language learning and we are fortunate to be able to attend a play at Toronto’s renowned Cinéfranco Youth Festival. Grade 11s will take their film experience as the framework for a group oral debate post the viewing to further develop their communication skills and thematic vocabulary in spoken French. “Romeo and Juliet” in a Parisian suburban town…that of French society in 2023 with almost all its problems: from unemployment to communitarianism*, from racism to the fear of terrorism , from the cruelty of the job market to the temptation of extremes... If the first film seen in 2023 sets the tone for the entire cinema year, it will be a very good one.
