The York Times Fun Facts + School Events Get Outside It’s never healthy to stay inside looking at screens all day, even without online school. During your lunch break, try going outside for a bike ride or walk your dog if you have one! Take a deep breath of fresh air.
Yoga Yoga is a great way to stretch and stay healthy. You can relax and meditate, or try to stretch and exercise to gain lots of health benefits. Who knows, maybe you’re a yogi at heart! A soccer ball on a field. In most places, what we call soccer is called football.
Get a Healthy Snack I’m constantly battled by this problem, the snack cupboard! Who can blame me? No one can resist junk food. But healthy snacks can be yummy too! For example, some people don’t like broccoli, but baby broccoli sprouts are really delicious! Try them some time!

A Break From The Screen Our fun facts this week are some cool things you can do on your breaks during online school. News Grade 5 Plays Luca As the first play done by the Grade 5s, Luca is like our show debut! Luca is about a young sea-monster who wants to see what life is like above the surface, but his family doesn’t want him to go there!
Annie After Luca, the cast were joined by a few other kids to put on this amazing musical production. A heartwarming story about four girls in an orphanage who only want to be adopted, and the lady in charge who goes from evil to caring in one night.
Home Alone
You might be familiar with this Christmas movie, Home Alone! But we added our own special twist on it. This production features three musical numbers following the life of Kaylie, and her experiences being left alone.

Sports Scottie Barnes Scottie Barnes was picked by the Raptors. He officially became a Raptor August 2021. He is 20 years old. He plays a forward. Fred Vanvleet Fred Vanvleet is an American professional basketball player for the Raptors. He is a point guard and has been on the team for 6 years. Pascal Siakam Pascal Siakam played college (university) basketball for New Mexico. He is 27 years old. He plays a forward and has been playing for 6 years.
Kyle Lowry Kyle Lowry, a point guard on the Raptors recently switched teams to the Memphis Grizzlies from the Raptors. Kyle Lowry is number 7. Before he left he had played on the Raptors for 9 whole years!

Interviews Ms. Saharla Ms. Saharla started teaching at the York School at the beginning of the school year. She is an early childhood educator and has previously worked at McMurrich Sprouts daycare. Outside of school she enjoys being creative, from baking to doing Voiceover work. She loves to read. Ms. Saharla is even working on her own podcast! She was born in Switzerland and lived in the UAE, Ethiopia, Malaysia, the USA and Canada. Her favourite colours are yellow and purple and her favourite animal is a giraffe. She is also the eldest of seven children.

Mr. Rand Mr. Rand has been teaching at the York School for 4 years. Since joining The York School in 2018 he has taught Grade 2. He also previously taught Grade 1 and 3 abroad. Mr. Rand lived in Qatar while working as a flight attendant for Qatar Airways. He also studied in Scotland and taught in Ukraine and Portugal. His biggest hobby is traveling. He loves exploring new cultures and has been lucky enough to travel to over 60 countries. He also loves cycling, canoeing and being active outdoors when the weather is nice. Lastly, he has a twin brother who works as an emergency room nurse. 2022-1-21

Interviews Ms. Sheriff Ms. Sheriff has been at the York School for two years now! She has taught grade 1 and 2 as an associate and now she teaches grade 2. She taught grade 5 and kindergarten when she was a student teacher in university. Ms. Sheriff grew up in Saudi Arabia and had lived in a few countries as a child. She lived in Istanbul, Turkey and Bangkok, Thailand. She moved back to Canada when she was 17 and has lived here ever since! Ms. Sheriff loves to read and swim! She also likes to paint when she finds the time. She has a black cat and her name is Loona! Ms. Sheriff can speak 3 languages. She also likes to collect birthday cards.
