Welcome to the "Mo.th of Photography 2" Exhibition in Bangkok! I would like to greet you in the Thai way our foreign guests are often met with on their arrival in our land (of smile).
Meant to be a biannual event, the Month of Photography was first introduced in Paris, in 1980, by .Jean-Luc Monterosso - today the Director of the Maison de la photographie, in the same city - with the aim to present works by international artists expressing themselves through photography. The concept was brought to Thailand in 2001 by Philippe Laleu, Director of Alliance Franaise International Art Centre, Bangkok.
The ,nth r F ,wt1g!·apl"v 2 exhibition is traveling throughout Asia with stopovers in Bangkok, Seoul and Singapore, under the set title of "Pop Culture". However, owing to the variety of cultural and social contexts. interpretation is however open fr all kinds of views. In Bangkok, the event divides into two parts. One is the exhibition curated by Agnes de Gouvion-Saint-Cyr displaying artworks by Jean-Paul Goude, Natacha Lesueur. Pierre et Gilles. Bettina Rheims. Orlan, Florence Paradeis, Pascal Monteil and Denis Darzacq. They will be on view at . The second part will be shown at ten other venues in Bangkok.

works of art that explore cultural and social context of
Bangkok. Audience can see the photographs at the
following galleries:
FCCT: Displayed are photographies by two Thai artists and one German, Wolfgang Bellwinkel, with the set "8 Women", including the portrait o/'8 women, revealing their personal lives influenced by the modernization (or ·'western civilization") that has affected their thinking and lifestyle. As for Thai artists, Assada Porananond has spent time taking photos of a group of teens in Chiang Rai province who have adopted and elaborated on the European Punk fashion, while Kittirat Sarndang shows works which also overlap with the dreams and reality of the artist himself .
Banikok llni\'ersity Gallery (BllGl presents a glimpse of unrelenting movement of culture. It moves and changes; its endless boundaries allows the context to bounce. The works of 5 artists underline different issues regarding personal life and urban culture, frming a varied and uneven image. Regarding personal aspects, Wasan Reawklang conveys his thought through video animation, while Sasikar Chaiprasit reveals her idea through images arranged by computer. At the same time, Tada Varich, a fashion photographer, faces us with images reflecting a part of our urban life. Taking on a more civic side, French artists Nicolas Prache & Alexandre Ovize as well as Canadian artist Greg Hefford speak their mind on issues concerning Bangkok, through their artworks.
