Interested students should consult the study abroad coordinator as early as possible, preferably a year ahead of travel. Students should work with their adviser to arrange course schedules so as to integrate the courses taken abroad into their college and major requirements.

Thiel College helps qualified students spend up to two semesters at a foreign university and to apply credit from study abroad toward a Thiel degree. Any such program, including courses taken for Thiel credit, must be pre-authorized by the appropriate department or the dean of the College.

Credits and grades earned will be transferred to Thiel. Foreign grading and credit systems will be converted into Thiel credits and grades. No credits will be granted without grades. Grades of C minus or higher will be accepted for transfer credit.

The Vira I. Heinz (VIH) Program for Women in Global Leadership

develops global citizens by cultivating leadership and intercultural competency skills, instilling passion for life-long learning and civic engagement, and by mentoring students through community engagement experiences. Applicants submit a study proposal that details the relationship between their goals for their credit-worthy summer international experience of at least four weeks and one of the five Heinz Endowments programming areas—Arts & Culture, Children, Youth & Families, Economic Opportunity, Education and the Environment. Each year, three young women from each of 15 institutions are admitted into the VIH Program and receive a $5,000 scholarship in partial support of the cost of their international experience.

Thiel College and Universidad de Especialidades Espiritu Santo (UEES), Quayaquil, Ecuador, offer the opportunity for students of all majors to be introduced to Hispanic culture. A wide variety of courses are taught in English, as well as Spanish, and the program is open to qualified sophomores or higher.

I t a ly SUMMER STUDY ABROAD COURSES These courses are taught or directly supervised

by Thiel faculty members in a variety of foreign countries. The emphasis is on academic studies, field trips and foreign culture. Programs vary from year to year and generally run from one to four weeks. Students and faculty travel together as a group. Credits, tuition and financial aid are the same as for on-campus courses, but an extra fee is added to cover travel costs. A limited number of 50 percent tuition waivers, awarded on a competitive application basis, are available each summer.
