SKILLS BOOTCAMPS IN DIGITAL MARKETING
AN INTRODUCTION TO TOPICS IN THIS BOOTCAMP MODULE EMAIL MARKETING
Up until the '80s, salespeople on your doorstep were a common sight. Fast forward to today, and few door to door salespeople still exist.
You no longer have to pack your products and comb the streets; email marketing delivers all the same benefits with much less shoe leather!
A BRIEF HISTORY
THE EVOLUTION OF EMAIL
Back in 1971, a computer engineer named Ray Tomlinson (the man behind the use of the " @ " symbol in email addresses!) sent the very first email. Despite the email he sent being only a string of letters and numbers, it paved the way for a new era of communication.
A few years later, in 1978, Gary Thuerk, marketing manager at Digital Equipment Corp, decided to use this new method of communication to let people know about a new product. This was to be the first commercial email of its kind.
By the 1990s, the internet was commercially available to the masses, and how people began to communicate with each other began to change dramatically. Marketers discovered that email was an effective way to advertise! Its call for action couldn't be ignored, sitting in the recipient's inbox until it was either read, deleted or archived It helps marketers build a relationship with customers and consumers, driving traffic to blogs, social media channels and repeat purchases with the clever use of discounts and creating user accounts

CRM WHY YOU NEED ONE 4
Let's get down to the basics: what exactly is a CRM system, and why on earth would you want one?
Do you remember anyone ' s phone number by heart these days? Or do you let Siri take the strain?
Imagine managing not only phone numbers but also email addresses, customer data, engagement histories, and business insights without the help of any kind of reliable system.
Even Siri and Alexa are out of their depth! That’s where a CRM can help!
CRM WHAT IS IT?
Cutting vegetables requires a knife; similarly, tracking customers and slicing and dicing your potential leads require a tool. This tool is called Customer Relationship Management software or simply a CRM
At its root (okay, enough of the veg puns), a CRM is a database in which you store contact information about prospects and customers, record inbound and outbound communications (e.g. sales enquiries and marketing emails), record financial transactions/purchases, and identify sales opportunities through data analysis.
If you have just started up, launched your first product, or are busy onboarding your first customer, you may not have thought about a CRM just yet In the very early stages of your 'small business journey, the amount of customer data you have might be small, and hence you have been making do with other methods to manage them, say using spreadsheets, phone contacts, and so on.
However, once the customers start rolling in, your social media strategies are taking shape, and your website is driving traffic, now is the perfect time for your small business to embrace a good CRM.
