How does my contribution to an LSCU PAC help the credit union cause? Legislators supported by LSCU PACs are better educated about credit union issues. The more we educate legislators in Washington D.C. and the State Capitol about credit union issues, the more likely legislation will affect credit unions in a positive way. Why should I contribute to an LSCU PAC? Contributing to an LSCU PAC gives your credit union a voice in the electoral and legislative process. The funds raised are used to educate lawmakers on how credit unions help the community and their members. Your contribution is an investment in the continued existence of credit unions everywhere.

How does my contribution help my credit union? • Contributions are used to support political candidates that understand credit unions and have a favorable view of the credit union industry. • Promoting good government and a positive legislative environment can ensure that credit unions continue to have laws and regulatory rules that provide the necessary tools to serve the members.

What are some ways to support my credit union? • Make an annual contribution • Participate in my credit union’s payroll deduction program • Participate in any of my credit union’s PAC fundraising drives (Pancakes for LSCU PAC, Bowling for ACULAC) • Participate in Chapter fundraising events

What is a Political Action Committee (PAC)?

Political action committees (PACs) are non-profit, bipartisan organizations that raise funds to support pro-credit union candidates and promote good government on behalf of credit unions at both the State and Federal levels. Credit unions exist to serve their membership. To continue to do so, we need to have elected officials that understand credit union issues and support the industry. Building relationships with policy makers ensures that the credit union message is heard. Contributions to the PAC give credit unions a voice on the local and national level. Credit union members rely on us to ensure that their financial futures are protected. Having a voice in government helps maintain the credit union not-for-profit status.

Where Does the Money Come from? LSCU Affiliated Credit Unions Each credit union raises funds for the PAC in their own way. Some participate in payroll deduction, others hold bake sales, and some participate in the LSCU donor recognition program. Many credit unions come up with their own unique way to raise these important funds.

“Aggregating individual and credit union contributions provide an opportunity to make a more impactful donation. PAC funds build relationships and create access opportunities to elected officials in ways that can’t be done by small individual campaign contributions alone.”

Mary Ott Wood, President/CEO Florida West Coast Credit Union

“Credit unions are political creatures and are perpetually susceptible to legislative outcomes. This undeniable truth demands that we participate vigorously in the political process. Our political response is grossly inept without abundant funding to support and defend causes and candidates that preserve and enhance the value of the credit union movement.”
