give blood
installation, vienna barch, academy of fine arts project, 11/12 This rusty structure could be used to have blood transfusion packs fixed on it, highlighting the necessity of giving blood. Instead of placing a billboard, a curtain is made by arraying dozens of those packs. The curtain does not only effect as a huge surface but every single pack (and at this point i have to admit that it is not meant to have the packs filled with real precious blood) takes over the part of a single pixel. Tubes, that are linking the packs with some large reservoirs can fill and empty every single pixel to make in addition of certain pixels letters and signs visible. The letters A, B, AB and the 0 (zero) show the 4 blood types. Underneath a + (plus) or - (minus) will appear and show the respective rhesus factor. Below the rooftop is a temporary blood donation center (container, bus, etc.). Equipped with a real time system, this base can control and handle the filling and draining of every single pack above which means, that the blood group that is almost out of stock or needed the most in a certain period can be displayed in real time on top of the city. With a relief, the packs will be refilled again. To provide a continous circulation, the blood is supposed to run down the roof and gets collected in the rain pipe where it is going to be aspirated by a pump and fills the storage cans again.

concert hall vienna boys´choire vienna
new building under construction architecture: archipel The formal architectural approach for The MUSIC CENTER AT AUGARTEN differentiated spatial and auditory perception levels and sequences, it creates different atmospheres, for which a specific material and color concept was developed. The CONCERT HALL at the core is the climax of the space and sound structure. Saucer-type zones are arranged between the inner and outer worlds, mediate between stage and audience. The architecture accompanies the visitors from the mundane, from the street, out of the park to the particular while the experience of space changes and increases along this path. From the perspective of the boy‘s choire entering stage through the artists‘ entrance this everyday way becomes familiar. For the outer shell, the building envelope, was selected deliberately against the dominance nature and spatial planning Context of a restrained gesture. Historic buildings are integrated (Pförtnerhaus) or optional (Augartenmauer). The close environment, the „aura“ of the music center, reacts on different atmospheres of the Augarten such as the urban spatial context and makes a common creative spirit and an architectural „signature“ recognizable. donaufeld, vienna barch, academy of fine arts studioproject part 1, 11/12 The so called donaufeld area is positioned north the upper part of Old Danube, right at the border of the 21st to the 22nd district and two subcenters of of each district - Floridsdorf and Kagran. Although the 70 ha is located quite near to the center, the surrounding neighbourhood of the area is not characterized by an inner-city structure or density, rather by an urban fabric. In groups of 4 we had to develope the site regarding to several tasks such as: traffic system differtianting various modes) pedestrians, paths, bicycles, cars, delivery, emergency, public transport development as volumes development as density, building lines etc. It was our aim to keep people, who are passing the area some kind of an barrier. Arrayed buildings (21x21m each) looking like huge slabs act as landmarks and support orientation. Of course the positions of the slabs (emerging from the direction of the streets) leads to several plots with different developments. Even though these slabs seem to be barriers, they offer gaps and free spaces, not only in between every single building but underneath them to avoid segregation from several typologies. To highlight the converging function of the slabs, the plots could be developed considering the surrounding, excisting area such as the values of each site next to each other.

donaufeld, vienna barch, academy of fine arts studioproject part 2, 11/12 A plain... ... fallow land besides agriculture, a cluster of new built single family houses and some really aged housings with (diy) added warehouses and a few glass houses in the fields. That’s the impression of the northern donaufeld area underneath donaufelderstraĂ&#x;e. The masterplan is not about to flatten the entire area and intersect it with streets but to respect the existing agriculture plots. Therefore roads connecting the nothern with the southern area were planned parallel to the agriculture plots and assure their existence further on...

The housing project aligns to the suggested streets in the masterplan as two row houses with twenty maisonette flats each. these two blocks are not just positioned next to the street but by seperating a huge site, they take advantage of the wide open green areas not only used for gardening but to grow vegetables and fruits. as the surrounding of the houses, the space in between offers several possibilities to be close to the nature because of a large glass house that connects the opposite buildings literally while offering an inside courtyard, an meeting point for the occupants. access to the flats is given through the glashouse but privacy is given on the opposite side of the flat.

reschen am brenner design 2008 architecture: columbosnext The idea for this project is rooted in the desire of the P. family, instead of their old, uninhabited house in Resia (South Tyrol) to have six new apartments for rent. The location of the plot is situated on a hillside and offers a breathtaking view over the old church tower, floated by the lake. Except for the concrete foundation and a corner from some leftover bricks, the old house would be demolished. The structural elements of the house will be made from KLH-walls. Parapets and interior space design are submitted to be made of prevailing types of wood as Larch. Despite its unconventional design language, the object regards to its surroundings and represents the tourism in the area without disturbing the rural idyll. (DI Verena Rauch)

endresstrasse 118 vienna
new building under construction architecture: archipel The almost rectangular plot with 1050 m², is located near the Maurer Hauptplatz. The development of the area is characterized by low 1-2 storey detached and terraced houses with a high proportion of private green. The village character is supported by the rather low traffic along Endresstrasse. The architectural design is based to the provisions of the zoning and development plan with construction class I. The building mass experiences a Differentiation in a south facing „front house“ on the road with a 15 m section depth, 2 storey + attic, and about 20 meters wide with 6 units + office along the street frontage and a Western-oriented component in the „garden“ along the eastern base boundary with 4 townhouse-like apartments with private gardens. mike lamp 2010 The guard of a common Shure SM-58, slip on an energy saving bulb, was the mental approach to modify a microphone and convert a light fixture. Because of the small inner diameter of the body there was only space for a halogen lamp, thereby also the guard could be reattached. It will not only reduce the glare behavior, but an interesting shadow pattern is generated in the room. The lamp was supplemented by a mic stand. Either mounted upside down from the ceiling and thus illuminates the room as a traditional ceiling light or standing on the floor with mike an ensemble as a floor lamp.

conversion completed 09/2010 The term NUDE is known in fashion and makeup style where it is associated with simplicity and naturalness. The understated emphasis of the original, of the essential, as well as clear, precise shapes define this style. The shop is located in the basement of a century building in the Argentinierstrasse. A simple yet elegant-looking device in the cutting area attracts the gaze of passers-by. The kitchen and the laundry area are located in the rear side, with access to the atrium. The used materials are raw and (mostly) untreated as the surface of zhe platform is made of Corten steel. The reduction to the minimum and Natural underscores the salon concept and provides a relaxing room. Š Photos: Alexander Dietrich

parish st. afra
eggendorf im thale
new building completed 04/2010 architecture: archipel The new parish center is initially based on a simple gable roof typology, which is subtle but adapted according to local conditions - certainly with respect to regional building culture of the wine district. The long sides are articulated in the plan from the center of light, the façade line up together with the adjacent existing buildings or lines of sight in one line. The roof is tilted up in the middle area of dormer, so that the fortified church and its bell tower in are constantly connected to the new parish hall. The church faces, frontal facade is turned up on the line of the old church wall, so that a „window spy“ from the firm to look to the West allows - to access the main portal of the church. Due to slight kinks and the wooden construction, the effect of a ship-like volume of an „ark“ is created. (Arch. Johannes Kraus) © Photos: Rupert Steiner

office for departure vienna
design project ba ia3d, ndu studio 08/09 departure, the City of Vienna’s agency for the creative industries, was established in 2003 as Austria’s first independent business promotion agency and service center for companies of the creative industries. Today it is considered a successful example of innovation funding on a competitive basis in Europe. departure is a subsidiary company of the Vienna Business Agency and part of the department for economic affairs of the City of Vienna. departure funding does not replace any cultural funding or subsidies; and it does not at all shorten the cultural budget of the City of Vienna. In the course of the 5th semster, which dealed with issues on planning offices, departure retained us to work on suggestions how their new headquarter (based in a new building) could look and be organised like.

klosterneuburg design project ba ia3d, ndu studio 06/07 As the title suggests, this project is about designing a minimum-house. The elected site for the development was a plot in Klosterneuburg, situated on a hillside overlooking the Danube. The parameters were given, to design this object as a secondary residence for a Jordanian artist and on the other hand, not to exceed the dimensions of 7x7x7 m.
