ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP
From The Chief Operating Officer
Falls Creek sits as a tiny blip within the boundary of the Alpine National Park, all 646k hectares (or 1.6m acres) of it. Even though the resort is just 1,535 hectares, or 0.23% of the total park, many of the environmental works we do here are replicable across the alps due to flora and fauna programs we undertake and their applicability to much of the ANP.
In fact, Alpine Resorts Victoria are leaders in all manner of flora and fauna programs. Plus, Falls Creek is the epic centre of much of this research, with an extensive number of prominent universities (10) using Falls Creek for research purposes (over 32 projects at last count) and cutting-edge work into the impacts of climate change on numerous species.
A recent addition to improve our environmental stewardship is the steam machine – here being used to eradicate weed without the use of poison. See article on Page Nine of this week’s paper. Pic – Courtesy FCAR

Frankly, the list of species recorded in just Falls Creek is much bigger than you might think. It covers the entire ark just about… but the most prominent and also most vulnerable are listed below and they being with our fight to save the Mountain Pygmy Possum (and the Bogong Moth, its main source of food), plus long footed Potoro’s, Platypus, Spot-tailed Quolls, Dingoes and one of the most unfortunately named, the Broad Tooth Rat (which isn’t a rat at all… poor old Mastacomys fuscus mordicus). Birds – we’ve got plenty, but the noisiest are the Gang-Gang Cockatoos - which are an endangered species that you’ll hear before you see them, they love a good screech. We undertake monitoring programs for pretty much every skink you can imagine that exists in the resorts, Alpine Bog skinks, She-oak skinks, Guthega skinks, Tussock skinks, the Alpine Water skinks… Throw in the amphibians – the frogs – we’ve got two different types of tree frogs and growling grass frogs at peril, plus native fish, the Flat-headed Galaxias (don’t both dropping a line in, these little swimmers make sardines look like Jaws). In the waterways, you’ll also find Euastacus Crassus, or the Alpine Spiny Crayfish. Then there are the insects, any keen trout fisherman will know these, but it’s the Western Bright-Eyed Brown Butterfly, or the Small Alpine Xenica Butterfly and the Alpine Darner Dragonfly that - during the spring wildflower blooms - can be seen across the plains. On the Flora front, at last count, just the vulnerable, endangered or critically

endangered species tally to over 150 different species.
Then we have the ‘communities’ the herb land, the bogs, the fens – the water filters and lungs of the high plains. And this is why we also do an enormous amount of work on invasive species, especially the deer, who destroy these as they wallow, not to mention the damage to trees from rutting. Foxes and feral cats are another that predate our cute little critters and skinks especially. It’s not just animals, but weeds too, like hawkweed, which outcompetes native species and creates monocultures in habitat. We work with an army of volunteers and Parks Victoria to eradicate and monitor such outbreaks and have been trialling a new steaming eradication program, which has shown great success and reduced the need for using chemicals.
Our programs are extensive and these are populated in our over-arching environmental management plan which has five broad themes – 1) Biodiversity and Threatened Species, 2) Waste and Resource Consumption, 3) Water and Catchment Management, 4) Land Use and Development and 5) Energy and Climate Change.
We partner with all manner of agencies, organisations, volunteer groups, citizen scientist and traditional owners, to help ensure that Falls Creek is more than just a ski resort, but a diverse and ecology sustainable environment for all creatures, great and small.
But don’t take my word for it, you can look for over 2000 species at Falls Creek here: Explore Your Area | Atlas of Living Australia (ala.org.au), or use it for your own interest at home and in the parks near you. •

The Cock and Bull Pub www.prettyvalley.com/the-cock-n-bull
Much likes its owner, this venue is an institution and hence popular with locals and regulars. If you’ve love a Guiness on tap… this is your venue! But it’s also known for its hearty traditional pub food. Fare to Start –chicken wings are the go. Barry goes through tonnes of them a year, they are a staple. The mains include, of course a Beef & Guinness Pie, Slow Cooked Lamb Shanks, Burgers of course, “the cock” (chicken) or “the bull” prime beef! Plus, the traditional parmie (yes it's a parmie!), or 250g of the finest Scotch fillet. If you’ve still got room for dessert, Sticky Date Pud is on the menu. Little ones have their own menu too, which includes an ice cream sundae to finish. Don’t forget to ask Barry for the wine list, the special wine list – his cellar is a veritable treasure trove… bookings are essential with sitting times filling up regularly. •

SA INTERSCHOOLS
A Huge Success
MORE than 100 students representing more than 20 schools competed in the annual South Australian Interschools Snowsports Championships at Falls Creek earlier this month (July).
Students from reception to year 12 competed in ski and snowboard giant slalom and ski and snowboard cross races on July 17 and 18.
The annual event, which this year included students from Tasmania and Western Australia, is part of the National Interschools program run by Snow Australia.
After being organised by South Australian Snowsports Association Inc (SASKI) for more than 25 years, the championships this year joined the Snow Australia family following unification.
OPEN 7 DAYS
BREAKFAST 7:30AM - 10AM LUNCH 12PM - 3PM
HAPPY HOUR 3PM - 6PM
DINNER 5PM - 8:30PM
“This year’s Interschools and wider schools events at Falls Creek are a credit to the organisational team as we collectively look to expand the opportunities for schoolaged athletes to experience the thrill and camaraderie of competition in a safe and supportive environment,” Snow Australia National Interschools chair Steve Cooper said.
SA committee chair David de Lacy said the annual SA-focused interschools championships had a focus on participation and fun, welcoming skiers and snowboarders of all abilities.
“Importantly, the SA committee is most grateful for the support of parents, teachers and the fabulous Falls Creek resort management and race team as they assist to make the SA Interschools a success each year.
“This year’s school representation included WA’s Applecross Primary School, Tasmania’s The Hutchins and Scotch Oakburn College as well as many SA schools, including Adelaide Botanic High, Angaston Primary,
Burnside Primary, East Adelaide Primary, Marryatville Primary, Pembroke, St Peters and Westminster.”
SA committee member Karen Cross, who has been involved with SA Interschools for eight years, encouraged families visiting Falls Creek during the final week of the July school holidays to enter their children in the annual event.
“My children have loved their experiences at interschools,” she said. "Their participation annually undoubtedly had the dual effect of improving their skiing and snowboarding skills as well as their confidence. Most of all they had fun and made new friends. My son still competes and loves the races as much as the camaraderie on mountain.”
The event, which can be entered individually or by schools on ski trips, is held in the final week of SA’s school holidays at Falls Creek. Find out more at: https://www.interschools.com.au/homensw-act-qld-sa/sa-champs. •

WORLD DAY AGAINST HUMAN TRAFFICKING
July Thirtieth
Several years ago, I was visiting a trade show looking for stock. I passed a stand called This Is Eden and asked standard question ‘do you have any snow themed stock’. The answer came back, no, but I stopped for a chat anyway as the ladies on the stand quickly informed me that they were a charitable organisation.
‘This Is Eden’ jewellery is designed & handmade by survivors of human trafficking and sexual slavery.
Eden’s programs are based in South-East Asia which is host to more than half of the global total of human trafficking victims. In 2014 This is Eden began its programs in Myanmar, a nation that has been a hotbed for human trafficking for years. Political instability, natural disasters, and internal ethnic infighting have led to a devastating lack of opportunity for the people of Myanmar.
Poverty and political unrest are at the heart of Myanmar's human trafficking crisis, which has only grown more severe over recent years. The economic collapse, brought on by the pandemic and political crisis, has exacerbated the level of human trafficking and the need for non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other not-for-profit organizations like Eden to fill this void and provide essential support to victims of human trafficking and sexual exploitation.
Through a relationship-focused and traumainformed approach to programming, Eden is able to reach both individuals at high risk of trafficking and victims of human trafficking in the red-light districts of Yangon, and Northern and Eastern Shan state. This access has allowed Eden to
identify and assist previously unknown victims of human trafficking, as well as collect vital migration tracking data. This unique design of programming is proven to address the root cause of their trafficking by reducing re-trafficking rates and facilitating sustainable reintegration after program graduation.
All profits from their jewellery sales directly benefit the women at Eden and support the following programs:
• Outreach
• Drop-in Centers
• Emergency Shelters
• Trauma Counseling
• Vocational Training
• Economic Empowerment
• Community Education
According to the ILO, 49.6 million people are trapped in modern-day slavery.
Eden’s mission is to extend help and support to people who have been trafficked for the purpose of sexual exploitation. At Eden, they care for the whole person: their physical, emotional, spiritual, economic, and social well-being.
"The amazing work that Eden’s doing
is changing lives one at a time. And it doesn’t stop with just bringing people off the streets. The restoration and renewal of hope through training of a trade and work placement is something truly admirable and sorely needed in this generation!"
July 30th was World Day Against Human Trafficking. So often in life it’s the little things that individuals can do to make a difference in the world and to change outcomes for people who have endured the worst of human behaviour in their lives.
By buying a necklace, cufflinks or earrings from I Dream Of Snow’s This is Eden range, you too can help change outcomes for survivors of human trafficking.
Have a great week.

EVENT WRAP UP
Yuki Birds & Afternoon Delight
Timing couldn’t have been better for a frothy weekend event hosted by ethical mountain wear brand Yuki Threads on Saturday 20th. With a huge dump on the Friday night, the scene was set for the Yuki Birds inclusive women and LGBTQIA+ morning shred sesh.
While things didn’t run quite to plan with the Drovers park being buried by fresh snow, the gals, gays and they's banded together as soon as the lifts started turning to find plenty of fresh tracks and make the most of the epic pow conditions!
While the Yuki Birds tour has now been running and growing for the past eight years across the Aussie resorts, this year an additional event aptly named ‘Afternoon Delight’ ran by local brands Yuki, BLAK, Rad & Modest has been added to the lineup after feedback for an all-inclusive shred sesh that the guys can get amongst as well! And that they did!!

With the Terrain Parks being buried by snow, the Falls Creek park crew and a bunch of awesome volunteers set to work in building a hike park in the village bowl. Tunes were playing, vibes were high, participants got involved and helped to build a couple of jumps, and the arvo sesh took off! It was puking fat flakes, the landings were soft and with prizes and giveaways from BLAK, Rad, Yuki & Modest being thrown at anyone giving it a crack, trying a new trick or nailing their best one yet, it was an arvo of hike trains, hi 5’s, stacks and loads of encouragement!! We had a great turnout of people of all levels including some who had never been in a park or hit a jump before! A true whole

The Fourth Saturday in August
As we move into August we are into serious ‘Countdown to Hoppet’ mode, and the second week of August is your last chance to beat the late entry price rise, and ensure your place on the start line for the 2024 Kangaroo Hoppet international cross country ski marathon. While the 42km main event might be a bit big of an ask if you have not put in some hard yards out on the cross country ski trails, the shorter 21km and 7km events could well be within your reach and give you the chance to be part of the action on the Fourth Saturday in August when the World Comes to Falls Creek.
And when we are talking world, it is the context of the start list including over 20 nations. While this includes a relatively small number of elite skiers looking for podium places and Ski Classics Pro Team points, most of the overseas skiers are here in Australia so that they can get a stamp in their Worldloppet Passport to prove that they took part in the largest southern hemisphere stage of the 19 event Worldloppet series of international ski marathons. When they get ten different stamps they qualify for the Worldloppet Master award. These awards seem simple enough, but for some they become a serious addiction, a bit like collecting stamps, beer cans or vintage cars. Take the case of eighty something year old French skier Hannes Larsson, who retired after 40 years of travelling the cross country ski world with 34 Masters Awards to his name. Think about it - that means he had completed at least 340 ski marathons.
‘But I am not going to be on the podium of the Hoppet’, you may well say, ‘so what is
in it for me?’ For young Australian athletes there are eight $1000 Athlete Scholarships provided by AGL, owner and operator of the Kiewa Hydro Scheme and the major sponsor of the event. While two of these are in the 42km, there are two for the U23 skiers in the 21km and 4 awarded in the U18 and U14 age groups in the 7km Joey Hoppet. Then there are the 5yr age class awards across all events, special caps for those completing 10, 20 or 30 Hoppets, primary and secondary school trophies and pennants for school, club and workplace teams.
‘Not good enough!’, I hear from the back row, ‘what about me?’ ‘Fair call’, I say. So we come down to the participation awards. All participants receive a metal or cloth badge and an event souvenir when they collect their race bib. And, last but by no
means least, one skier in each event will win a voucher for skis or boots from Fischer with the winners announced at the midday prize ceremony on race day.
If all that is not enough, how about simply the opportunity to be part of a major international sporting event, catch up with old friends and make some new ones.

A DAY IN THE LIFE
Falls Creek Groomer
When most people in Falls are settling down for the evening, the snow groomer’s day begins. Kenton Ford, 27, is one of Falls Creek's long standing snow groomers. “I get up at 7pm, have a coffee and ride a snowmobile out to the workshop.” The snow runs are empty, and the sky is black with temperatures ranging between –7° and +5° Celsius.
The manager will use a map to assign each groomer to an area with radios used as a form of communication. Each snow cat is designed for a different type of terrain. Winches are fitted to the back and then hooked to the top of the hill for steeper terrain. This helps the cat climb the mountain without making holes in the snow.
Throughout the ski day the snow gets pushed downhill and out to the side and a groomers job is to bring it back from the side and push it back up the hill.
The snowcat is a diesel fuelled machine described by Ford as a “a super fancy bulldozer… a blade on the front, tiller on the rear and tracks like a tank.” The art of the trade is in the appearance of the snow: nice, even corduroy with no bumps or dips. Kenton describes the art of grooming as ‘drawing’ and likens it to each groomer having their own artistic license.
The training starts shadowing a fellow groomer to learning how to use a tiller on green runs like Drovers. Then progression to using the blade. In simple terms, the steeper the gradient the more experienced the groomer; building jumps is some of the most skilled work. Some runs are even left ungroomed like Cabbage Patch that descends from Summit.
The mountains can be a dangerous place, especially at night. Kenton recalls a story that sticks in his mind. “I was in a winch cat, and we have a cable that runs to the top of the hill that is hooked onto an anchor point. And that cable is always under tension. We put a radio call out and nobody is allowed to enter that area where that winch cat is. I got to the top of my run and noticed somebody had walked over my cable, so that scared the sh*t out of me.” That person was thankfully unharmed, but they could have been severely injured in different circumstances.
This season has been the best season for snow fall in many years, claims Ford. “ If we have lots of snow right at the start of the season it usually means we are going to end the season early. Whereas now we’re getting all our snow which is the perfect time. We have got our snow making base down which will last till the end of the season and any natural snow that we do get will stick around.”
I ask why Kenton choses Falls to groom each year. “We’ve got it all; easy green runs which
are nice and wide, we have good terrain parks and great runs we need to winch every night.”
Born and raised in Falls Creek, Ford is a jack of all trades in the snow industry from working in snow making, to even timing races in Whistler but his favourite job to date is grooming due to its artistic nature.
The working day ends at 8am. Kenton heads for a beer in 1550 then for skiing first tracks before heading to bed at 11:30am.
Favourite Run: Cabbage Patch or Jump Park
Favourite song to groom to: Sultans of Swing by Dire straits. •

Using Steam to Remove Weeds
Up at Falls Creek the environmental team work hard to protect native species and keep the unique landscape we get to appreciate at the forefront of the resort.
Did you know that alpine environments in Australia make up about 0.1% of the continent? Falls Creek is home to endemic flora and fauna that can’t exist anywhere else, including 185 plants and animals on the threatened species list.
A big part of the work we undertake includes removing introduced weeds. During the green season you can find us pulling out and treating weeds that have travelled into the resort on bikes, shoes, machinery, animals, water and wind, or from escaping people’s gardens. Weeds can out-compete the unique native species we are privileged to be able to see today, so we pour a lot of time and energy into keeping them at bay.
A new development we have been trialling is the use of steam to kill weeds. We recently acquired a Satusteam machine, that converts water into pressurised, hot steam. When used in close proximity to plants it kills them by bursting their cells, stopping their ability to photosynthesise and grow. This has been a huge win, as it allows us to treat weeds such as musk monkey flower (Erythranthe moschata), Soft Rush (Juncus Effusus), Shasta Daisy (Leucanthemum x superbum) and Greater Lotus (Lotus Pedunculatus), that live in and around sensitive waterways. Weeds that have become established in waterways, bogs, fens and drainage lines around Falls Creek choke out native species, alter habitat and degrade water quality by changing nutrients in the water. This has previously been a big challenge as there were limited solutions to remove weeds in such
delicate areas without also effecting the native species.
Being able to treat weeds with steam includes the benefit of being herbicide free, so it can be used in wind, rain and even snowy conditions, which extends the seasons in whci weeds can be treated. There isn’t a risk of contamination to off-target species, no residual chemical is left in the environment and there aren’t health worries for people or animals through exposure. The use of steam stimulates the seed bank present in the soil, so with follow up treatments, the weed seed bank gets exhausted, and areas that have previously been taken over by weeds will have more of a chance of natural regeneration in healthy soils.
We love spending time immersed in natural spaces, feeling the peace and admiring the beauty of our surroundings. We hope that you take some time to connect with the environment around you and appreciate the uniqueness of the landscape at Falls Creek. You can help us keep the weeds from spreading by cleaning your shoes before entering the national park, washing your bikes at the bike stations, packing out any food waste you bring in, and if you’re a local to Falls Creek, planting only native species in your garden. It’s everyone’s responsibility to look after the environment so that we can continue to enjoy this beautifully biodiverse place into the future. •

FALL LINES
Live Gigs Coming Up: Chris Hartley
Chris is a regular to Falls Creek, with frequent visits in the summer months and Easter. But the true passion for Falls Creek is realised during the Ski Season, when he combines his love of snowboarding, catching up with friends and playing his acoustic guitar to get the crowd going. “What could be better than this –hanging out with mates, snowboarding by day and playing acoustic shows by night –feeling super grateful!”
With ‘road-worn’ fingers and years of experience playing in cover bands, and most recently his Melbourne-based duo, The Fretsliders (who played at Falls the last 2 years), Chris will be offering up a host of
cover songs that you are sure to know and love - requests are welcomed!
Chris’ musical influences range from mellow guitar ballads through to rock and blues styles - but always songs that people find familiar. “I try to span the generations and genres with my cover songs to offer a little of everything when I play”.
This August Chris will be strumming some tunes at Falls Creek Hotel for the everpopular ‘Harvey Hour’ (From 3:30 pm, Tuesday 6th & Thursday 8th) as well as Lakeside Lodge (From 5:30 pm, Saturday 17th).
So, if you like live music and you enjoy having some fun, come along, and sing along! •
Side Hustlers
Music and time in Falls Creek has been a big part of Rohan Smith and Jacinta Mackey’s lifestyle for over two decades. While their three “kids” Rubina, Hugo and Audrey are all now grown up and have worked at Falls as ski and snowboard instructors, including Hugo and Audrey this season, it doesn’t seem that long ago the “kids” were part of Falls Creek Race Club with the elder two attending Falls Creek Primary School. In 2020 the family bought the same flat in Falls Creek that they had rented for two full seasons back in 2007 and 2008, that is now their home away from home in the mountains.
With Rohan playing guitar in various cover bands through the years back in Melbourne and Jacinta singing in community choirs and being a passionate skier, it seems only natural that the winter trips over the years to the snow included taking guitars along for Rohan to play casually in various Falls lodges.
In 2022 Jacinta and Rohan teamed up in Melbourne with vocalist/guitarist Brett Carman to form The Side Hustlers Trio band. Later that year the Side Hustlers played one of their early gigs at Attunga Lodge in Falls. Now in 2024, The Side Hustlers are playing regularly at venues throughout Melbourne’s bayside suburbs with an ever increasing loyal following.
With harmonies and interweaving guitars, the Side Hustlers bring to life the full band production of favourite songs to a more intimate acoustic style show. The Side Hustlers play a mixture of acoustic favourites and folk adaptations of upbeat classic songs predominantly from 80s and 90s. A typical gig includes songs from 80s UK favourites Simple Minds, Eurythmics, Tears for Fears, Human League, The Cure, U2, The Buggles and Joe Jackson through to some Australian favourites from Pete Murray, Kylie Minogue, Paul Kelly, The Church and Crowded House.
Their son Hugo is an accomplished singer/ guitarist in his own right and whilst instructing in Myoko Japan over the last two Northern Hemisphere seasons, also did the occasional gig there.
The Side Hustlers Trio return to Falls in 2024 and will be playing at Lakeside Lodge on 10th August and 31st August 5-8pm with Hugo Smith supporting. •

CROSS COUNTRY NEWS
Hoppet Legends – Part 1 30 Official Kangaroo Hoppet’s, 20+ something devoted Hoppeters.
Introducing the Hoppet legends, those who have battled blizzards, torrential rain, howling winds and beautiful blue bird days. Nothing has stopped this special group of people from racing and completing every Hoppet. You’ll recognise them by their Golden Hoppet caps, keep an eye out as we get closer to the big event!
Now we are in August, we thought it was appropriate to check in with these legends to hear about their most memorable moments throughout the past 30 + years.
Five of our legends shared some of their favourite Hoppet moments and we’ll present more next week.
Chris Hall
Location: Cooma, centre of the known universe.
Favourite thing about the Hoppet: The top of the Paralyzer, the flat bits, the finish line, the bakery…anything but the uphills.
Most memorable Hoppet Moment: Completing the race seven weeks after a variety of operations and ailments… six weeks after crushed vertebra in back (bloody mountain bikes), seven weeks after triple neck
fusion that went very well, seven weeks after retina peeled off and was surgically reattached etc to name a few… I have come to dread the period starting eight weeks out! Am I safe this year??
Malcolm Mckinnon
Location: Eurobin
Favourite thing about the Hoppet: Love the atmosphere of each event despite the conditions and camaraderie that exists between skiers.
Most memorable Hoppet Moment: All Hoppets have their own highlights but probably the year we did three laps of Heathy Spur. I remember getting to the top of The
Paralyser and seeing a Ski Patroller then thinking if I lie down, he might save me.
Roland Baltutis
Location: Melbourne.
Favourite thing about the Hoppet: My favourite races were when we use to ski over Heathy spur then around the lake past Cope & Wallace huts and return. The most difficult race was having to ski up the paralyser three times in deep slushy snow.
Most memorable Hoppet Moment: Skiing in a race with cross country royalty Jessie Diggins, made me feel proud of the standings and achievements of the Hoppet.
Andrew Paul
Location: Our little flat at Falls Creek at the moment.
Favourite thing about the Hoppet: Surviving until the finish line downhill!
Most memorable Hoppet Moment: The great jellybean incident at Edmonson’s Hut** 1994
CROSS COUNTRY NEWS
or 95 sometime. A dedicated and enthusiastic volunteer presented me with a large bin full of beans at the last moment right in front of my chest, momentum & a desperate grasp at the seductive beans caused an impact with the resulting explosion of beans created a kaleidoscope of coloured snow across the track for the remaining participants for the rest of the event.
*Editor’s note*: Later his wife Sandra Paul came along and saw the rainbow assortment of jellybeans across the track and said, “What idiot spilt the beans.”
Marg Hayes
Location: We spend every Winter in Mt Beauty to xc ski and travel the rest of the year. When we stop travelling, we'll live in Mt Beauty again.
Favourite thing about the Hoppet: Being able to ski all over the Bogong High Plains in one day.
Most memorable Hoppet moment: Crossing the finish line in my first Hoppet as it was the farthest I had ever skied and first race I ever went in as I used to mostly ski tour.
Hoppet Helpers Wanted: Wanna get involved in the XC Skiing community?
The Kangaroo Hoppet committee is now calling for Volunteers for both on & off the snow, before, during and after the race. Please contact the Hoppet for additional details.

National Championships Results:
Over the past weekend, the Australian National XC Skiing Championships were held. There were athletes from 5 different nations competing across the weekend.
On Saturday the Classic Sprint showed some exciting head-to-head racing, with NSW born Rosie Fordham taking the win in the women’s ahead of Darcie Morton (2nd) and Lily Munane (3rd). The men’s event showed some great powerful double pole from Jayden Spring who took a decisive victory over local Phil Bellingham (2nd) and Fedele De Campo (3rd).
Sunday was a bigger day for the athletes, competing in a 15km skate for both men and women. The course was hard, and with 3 laps of a 5km loop, going up Tank hill was a difficult feat. The winner of the day was Rosie Fordham once again, followed by Darcie Morton and Hannah Price. In the men’s competition, Phil Bellingham took the win, followed by an exciting race from NSW athlete Liam Burton and Swiss athlete Christoph Gasche.
A special congratulations and shoutout to our Para-Nordic athletes, Matthew Brumby and Taryn Dickens who competed over the weekend at Australian National Championships. Taryn shared a few words after her race, “Today’s race was hard, and I am proud to have made it to the finish.” • Katerina Paul

The resort now boasts in excess of 40km of mountain bike trails – with more trails planned and some being accessed from very close to Sun Valley apartments. Add to these the many kilometres of aqueducts and management vehicle tracks and your exploring, whether on foot or on your bike is endless. The Falls to Hotham Alpine Crossing is an iconic Australian walk of international standard being promoted by Parks Victoria.
The afore-mentioned suite of summer activities includes the Alpine Challenge, the Mile High Dragon Boats, the Bicycle Network Peaks Challenge Falls Creek, the Easter Festival as well as regular mountain bike shuttles. And to quote our CEO from an article in a previous edition “Falls Creek has the highest total visitor days of any Alpine Resort in Victoria.”
