Assignment One The Group/ The Field This assignment looked at the concept of groups and fields, in which we developed an overall organisational scheme for an estate to be further developed. • • •
the three collective forms investigated were compositional, mega-structural + group formations my final condition looked at triangular shapes which formed ‘pockets’ within the overall scheme the condition was also related to the site as it flowed around the perimeter
Sketches looking at different types of conditions and shapes.

Sketches looking at what happens when shapes intersect.
09
I was interested in using triangular ‘shard’ like geometries for my field condition and this sketch was looking at how they would be placed together, exploring intersections and pockets created.

Assignment Two Defining Figure Elements This assignment further developed the initial ideas from Assignment 01, adding the third dimension into it. We were required to design pavilions for the site following a set of criteria. We then documented this through floor plans and axonometric drawings as well as completing a 3D massing model which was printed. • • • • •
the theme chosen for my site was a garden retreat pavilions designed within my site included; sleeping, studying, relaxing, art gallery, kitchen, function space, greenhouse etc. each pavilion featured its own skylight each pavilion had custom windows to focus on views of nature shapes and forms mimicked those of the original group formation

Assignment Three Defining the Ground This assignment further developed the initial ideas from Assignment 01 and 02, adding landscape typography to our site. The landscape also had to include a water element/s to it. • • • • • •
I chose to use the landscape to define the programme of the site, separating the private and public a main ridge was used through the middle of the site the ‘pockets’ were sunk into the landscape mounds were used as focal points and seats in the landscape depressions in the ground were used to create walkways water was used to create ‘reflection ponds’ for meditation

programme of the site and pleasure gardens. The public buildings were raised up above the site on the main ride, whereas the private pavilions were sunk down into their small ‘pockets’ linked by walkways.

Looking from within a private pavilion the small moments created in the design through
Garden Retreat arrangement and landscape can be seen. The boardwalk amplifies this theme as it wraps
around the pavilions creating a courtyard space in the middle. The second perspective looks at the open entry space of the garden, showcasing the reflection ponds and natural landscape. People can be seen relaxing within the trees and meditating by the tranquil ponds. Function pavilions can also be seen in the distance, raised up in line with the tree canopies to get a immersive view of the garden.
