Cash boost for school’s sixth form plans A CASH boost of £720,000 could help Thornbury’s Castle School get a new sixth form. More than £2 million has been allocated in total to South Gloucestershire from the Land Release Fund to go towards unlocking council-owned land for housing. The money is for nine projects in the district, including the school’s sixth form centre, currently in Gloucester Road. There are long-held hopes of establishing a new
sixth form on the school’s main site in Park Road and the £720,000 could kick-start that scheme. The Gloucester Road site could then be sold to developers, with the proceeds helping to fund the rest of the sixth form project. John Goddard, South Gloucestershire’s Cabinet member for corporate resources, said: “Some of these proposals are at an early stage and all are dependent upon obtaining planning consent.”
