Arguments aired over latest homes plan during site visit A DECISION on another controversial house building scheme for Thornbury is unlikely to be made imminently, despite a sites inspection visit taking place. South Gloucestershire planners and Thornbury residents who are fighting the scheme for land west of Gloucester Road went to the field in the north of the town to view the location and consider the developer’s proposals. A big increase in the amount of house building in the town is a major concern, with three sites alone at Thornbury Fields, Park Farm and Post Farm accounting for more than 900 homes already. The Gloucester Road proposal would take the number over 1,000 but those opposing it are hoping to be able to persuade planners not to grant permission. They will use arguments that were raised successfully against the Cleve Park plan for up to 350 homes at the southern end of Morton Way and which resulted in that plan being rejected
recently. A number of objectors have said Thornbury was always considered the jewel in the crown of South Gloucestershire
but that attribute was in danger of being lost through large scale development in the town. Full story page 8
