Identity. Body image. These topics have been on my mind lately and have caused me to think about myself and those around me. Over my years at the school I have seen that people change progressively. Some fast, others slow, but everyone has changed in one way or another. Many people hide their true selves from others in fear of being mocked and being made social outcasts. I know for a fact that many of my friends (and me included) act very differently when at school, when with friends and when by themselves. Teenagers feel pressured to act in a way that is “socially acceptable” in order to maintain a sense of popularity or purely just to be noticed. This doesn't even make sense in the first place since we all know that the people that get noticed and are popular aren't the ones that blend in and go with the flow but are the ones which rise above the rest and go against the flow! Many students change the way that they speak and act whilst at school, especially towards God and Christianity, as I know they would never speak some of the mutterings (which I hear at school) while at home and definitely not at church. Students believe that, even though they go to a Christian school, not acting and actually living like a Christian will be “social-suicide” - to quote Mean Girls. However, I know that people will understand and accept if someone decides to be Christian, just as my friends are, and if your friends can’t accept this about you perhaps change your friends rather than changing yourself.
