Spoil Me Kids Couture was awakened after years of just a mere dream. With my great grandmother recognizing my creative hand as a child, I always knew creating was my gift. In my day to day, I find myself thinking of ways to make something that’s so ordinary, extraordinary! With the love of creating I also share strong compassion for children. Nurturing is in my nature and nothing means more to me than having a child feel free, loved, safe and secure. Most importantly, I like them to feel special. One of my first jobs out of college was as a staff writer for BOP magazine. I had the plum opportunity to interview everyone from The Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears to child actors Jonathan Taylor Thomas and Melissa Joan Hart. So when Thrifty Hunter’s publisher and founder Gabrielle said she wanted to create a children’s issue, I was all in! As parents, it’s hard to not get caught up in the tedious world of carpool, soccer practice and homework. But as parents, it’s also important to remind ourselves to take a step back to see and appreciate our kids as the amazing and creative little human beings they are. Aside from the countless pages of adorable kid fashion, you’ll find several inspirational articles about child actors including cover girl Ciara Bravo and Bailee Madison. You’ll also learn all about the original “Hollywood mom” Tracy Bobbitt and how celebrity chef Ellamarie helps kids reach for more than Twinkies in their kitchen cupboard. Ciara Bravo from the new Fox series “Red Band Society” is from the Cincinnati, Ohio/Northern Kentucky area. As a young girl growing up, Bravo spent her summers at camp and the rest of the year at school. Bravo has always been fascinated by horseback riding and anything that had to deal with the great outdoors. She didn’t always want to be an actress. When she was younger she aspired to be a jockey. Bravo plays one of the main characters on the show “Red Band Society, which is about a group of adolescents at the Ocean Park Hospital who developed a relationship. In the show, she plays Emma Chota who is a 16-year-old girl living with an eating disorder. Bravo is such a huge fan of the character because “they’re so real”. She added, “When I read a new script, there are moments where I get so frustrated with these characters and moments where I’m overwhelmed with love. They’re human, and that’s what I think makes this project so incredibly special.” Bravo is part of the CCFA (The Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America) foundation. Bravo explained, “Crohn’s is a disease that has affected my family, so I like to do anything I can to support.” CCFA is a non-profit and volunteer-driven organization that was founded by William Modell in 1967 that is dedicated to finding cures for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Bravo’s life mantra is making sure that people remember how she made them feel. She added that she is a fan of Maya Angelou’s quote, “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” She is very grateful and believes her greatest accomplishment is having such a successful career at a young age. What keeps Bravo motivated in life and her career is the thought of future possibilities. When asked what advice she would give to a young individual who wants to follow their dreams she stresses the importance of not giving up. “It’s frighteningly easy to bail and stick with a safe 9 to 5 office job, but if that’s not what you want, don’t settle. The only reason I am where I am today is because I had my family behind me the whole time. When I would start saying it’s not worth all of the trouble, they were the ones who got me back on my feet again. So, make sure you surround yourself with people who support you.”

COVER STORY Ellamarie grew up in Dallas, Texas. “I grew up with my single mother and grandparents. I was fortunate to have two mothers growing up.” Growing up, Ellamarie’s family had several different businesses, but mainly restaurants, which she gives credit for giving her the “itch for cooking”. She added, “Our family was loud, seven women and two men. We grew up to be strong and the men were the ones who had to survive. Her mother and grandmother would always tell her to never give up and stay true to yourself and be a good person.” Ellamarie first discovered her passion for cooking when she was allowed to be with the chefs and help cook at a very young age at her family’s restaurants. “Given that my mom was single, I remember making dinners for her and her dates. I guess I was trying to woo the dates for a potential dad.” One of her favorite dishes to make is anything having to deal with French food and sauces. “I love making meat and poultry dishes with multiple types of mushrooms. My specialty is Supreme du Volaille au Cognac, sautéed chicken breast served over a bed of homemade fettuccini topped with an exotic mushroom cognac sauce.” Currently, Ellamarie is working on her cookbook called “Cooking with Ellamarie, Celebrities and Kids,” which will be released this coming November. The cookbook is promoting family time in the kitchen with an addition of celebrities cooking with their kids, and youth celebrities cooking with Ellamarie. The purpose of the cookbook is to “promote the idea that kids should always have an adult supervising them or letting an adult know about their cooking”. Fifty percent of the profits will be going toward L.A. public schools. “It is by chance that I met Forest Whitaker, who encouraged me to align myself with a celebrity who had the same passion for public schools. My next photo shoot was with an old friend Kevin Sorbo, who has a non-profit “A World Fit for Kids,” which focuses on LA public schools. This is why I am donating fifty percent of profits toward this charity.” Ellamarie is very involved with kids’ education, which is the reason why she is donating to actor Kevin Sorbo’s non-profit called “A World Fit for Kids”.
Ellamarie added, “Education is not prejudiced. Every child needs and deserves a good education.” One of her greatest accomplishments is being a loving mother to her three beautiful daughters. “My daughters are funny, smart, and compassionate, and anything but spoiled.” Ellamarie believes the challenges in her life are what motivates her and inspires her in life. She added, “I love to do the impossible or at least try to do things that may not be easy.” One of the biggest lessons she has learned is having to deal with the health issues her mother is going through. She said, “I remember how my mother would get upset if anyone fretted over her and she explained that it made her feel uncomfortable and embarrassed. It taught me to be sensitive to others’ circumstances. If my mother felt like this, I am sure others do as well. My mother taught me that what matters is how we adapt to our circumstances and how we tackle them. She taught me that challenges, which are difficult, are only conditions. COVER STORY I can let them be roadblocks or simply learn how to maneuver around them.” Ellamarie life mantra is to “live your life being true to yourself. Be kind to others and remember that you never know what type of day someone else may be having.” The advice she would give to individuals wanting to follow their dreams is that “times can become very tough, but it’s important to be your own best friend, and not to be afraid to reach for your dreams.” She added, “Everyone starts somewhere. It does not matter how long it takes you. Even when you are a grown kid like me, dreams can still come true. With hard work, anything is possible… I had a several conversations with God and I know that I could not have done this without His belief in me. Thank goodness He gave me strength and made me stubborn enough to make it through this project. I can still hear my grandfather telling me there is no failure in trying. You only fail if you do not try.”

F E AT U R E After trying different methods and routines, my husband and I finally sat down and had an honest conversation about how our home was being managed. We came to an agreement, and put up a chore board for everyone. A schedule is in the works. Since that conversation, we make sure we are in sync when it comes to knowing about the house and the happenings of our children. It has already made such a big difference in our home. How do you and your wife find time for each other? Angela: We have to make time. Every Saturday of the month we have a marriage seminar that we always attend. We are also thankful for our family, because they are very supportive and will care for our children while we attend the seminars along with marriage retreats or dates here and there. We are yet learning how to make time for each other. Whether at home or taking a short walk, we enjoy having that little time together.
What would a typical day be like in your home with your ten children? Angela: Let me start by saying; honestly, it doesn’t feel like I have ten children. It doesn’t really hit me until I see other people’s reaction when I tell them I have ten children. When I explain to people ten isn’t that many, they’re like, “yeah right.” It wasn’t until my brother and sister came and spent some time with us, and expressed the like, that I thought maybe I was being a little bias; but then others have said the same. Now when it comes to preparing plates with food, combing hair, and managing clothes it definitely feels like ten. One thing I accept and understand, is that children are CHILDREN. Is there noise? You bet. Do the kids run up and down the hallway, argue, or fight? Are they loud? Yes; but not for long; when my husband or I hear it, it gets nipped in the bud, because it’s not allowed. There’s also lots of singing, laughter, playing, homework, and last but not least, chores. As far as managing our home, we are learning more and more that it takes all of us. It’s difficult when one person is left with all of the responsibility of taking care of the children, and the home. Being that my husband works and I stay home, it has been very challenging for him and me. 68

James: It can be difficult at times, but usually after the children go to sleep or throughout the day we find time. We appreciate and maximize the small moments; whether we just talk for a second, or talk in the car on the way to church. It’s just important for us to always communicate. I have had this saying since we were first married, “Nothing interferes inside our circle. Everything is outside the circle of us.” Angie how do you find time to remain focused on taking care of yourself and making sure you are not falling apart? Angela: By the grace of God. When we find the “time”, my husband usually makes sure I have some “me” time. He doesn’t have a problem with keeping all of the children and giving me a little breathier; whether I spend some time with my parents or take a nice long bath. I’m really grateful for that! James: It’s all God. Without Him I would not be able to stay focus. He is the one that keeps me grounded. Especially having so many different situations that come about in a day as well as maintaining on one income. It can get very hectic at times. I realize that it is God, because I know that I have to draw that strength from somewhere, and He is the one that keeps me focused. My favorite Scripture is, “This is the day that the Lord has made and we will rejoice and be glad in it.”
F E AT U R E So it doesn’t matter what is going on in my life, I’m going to rejoice. This is what keeps me together. I look at my children and I know that it is important to instill God’s love and Word in them by example. It’s my job to show my girls what kind of husband they need to desire, and my son what kind of man he must be. My goal is to show them how to depend on God no matter what the situation may be. How do you shop for your size family without breaking the bank? Do go through the Sunday papers for coupons? Find discount stores? After our second child, my husband and I decided I would be a stay at home mother. With only one income we do have our challenges, but God has ALWAYS provided. Whether it is from others who notice our family is growing and give us clothing or recycling our own children’s clothing and passing them down. It’s really helps out a lot! However, there are times when I am able to shop. One place in particular we like to shop is Downtown Los Angeles. For the most part we have to be practical and think about how long each child will be wearing the clothing. Therefore, it is not practical for me to spend $40 on a skirt that may not be worn very long. Even though it probably will be passed down, they are still children, and they are growing fast. We have always wanted to shop at thrift stores, but just have never found the time. However, we love the concept of Thrifty Hunter and plan on making it a necessity to try! Preparing for your family on a daily basis is one thing but in what ways are you making preparations for their future? I prepare more by instilling things into them such as values. Our children understand we go to church, but I like to explain things more than just reading a scripture. I have to make sure they understand how to carry on as they grow into responsible, respectful, thriving adults and still keep God first in everything they do. My husband and I have yet to plan the financial part of their future. We live one day at a time, step by step. We trust and believe God. We do not know what the future may hold for our children, but we do know with God on their side it will be exactly what each one of them were called to do. God orders our steps, our plans, and future. When He guides our steps in that direction we will definitely follow His lead.
We will pack an ice chest in the trunk with sandwiches, snacks, and drinks. It makes the outing a lot more special. We always teach our children, being together with your family is what counts, and what matters! Making happy memories is important, and it doesn’t have to take much. With 10 children and your 11th on the way, do you plan on making this your last? Whatever God allows for us. Before my husband and I got married I decided to research fertility because I wanted to wait about 4 to 5 years before I started having children. I wanted us to have the opportunity to enjoy each other. At that time I was working in the medical field, and one day I came across a PDR, (Physicians’ Desk Reference) which listed side effects of all prescription drugs; I just happened to open the book up to a particular birth control medicine, which had 2 pages of listed side effects. It was at that moment I realized that I was tapping into an area that I shouldn’t have been in; However, I also knew God was in control and it was not by chance or accident that I had stumbled upon this information. The course of my life was changed forever. My eyes were now opened, and I started noticing most of the babies that came into my department were experiencing many of the symptoms and problems that were side effects from the mother’s birth control medication. I am aware that all babies don’t have side effects from these medications, However, I knew this happened just for me, as I was in the process of researching birth control and other fertility medicines. God used this incident as a sign for me and stopped me right in my tracks. Ten children later with my 11th on the way, I know it was just for me. Hollywood’s REAL Stage Mom Tracy Bobbitt, Talks to Thrifty Hunter about Hollywood Mom Blog By Robin Tolkan-Doyle
Having navigated through the bumpy world of child actors to support her daughter’s passion to perform, this down-to-earth mom built a resourceful and popular blog to educate, empower and inspire other parents taking the same ride with their kids through La La Land. What is the Hollywood Mom Blog about? Hollywood Mom Blog helps the moms of child actors navigate parenting their kids in the entertainment industry. Our mission is to be a positive community, forum, news outlet and trusted information resource for all matters related to the lives of child actors. We post free casting notices, celebrity interviews, industry resources, discounts, recap red carpet events and so much more. How long have you had HMB? I began toying around with the idea of HMB in 2010, shortly after my daughter began her professional journey. My friend Danielle ran “Celebrity Baby Blog,” which was purchased by People Magazine. I thought if moms are that interested in the kids of celebrities (what they're wearing, etc.) wouldn't parents be even more interested in their own child's success in the business? It seemed like a no brainer. Talk about your background and what made you create HMB? I have a B.A. in English Lit, so hopefully I’m able to string sentences together. I also have a background in film production, having worked for my husband Russell, a feature film prop master, and prior to that, for Sandra Bullock at her company Fortis. But before all of that, I was a private investigator for work comp and liability claims andthose sleuthing skills have come in handy more than once while running HMB. Who is the HMB audience? The primarily audience is the parents of working child actors and those who aspire to the lifestyle. But the readership is also filled with a lot of reality television producers. A LOT. 70

I've been approached multiple times about doing my own show, casting a networks show, etc. but I haven't found the right fit because HMB isn't about being exploitive and let's face it, that's what those shows thrive on. What opportunities have you been afforded since you started this? Probably one of the most significant opportunities has been serving on the Advisory Committee of the Actors Fund Looking Ahead Program, alongside industry notables like Fred Savage, formerly The Wonder Years child star and now an accomplished director in his own right, as well as Judy Taylor, the VP of Casting for Disney, and Sharon Lieblen, who once did all the Nickelodeon Casting. I love the organization and what they stand for, which is similar to my own goals for HMB. I've also been on several TV shows, news & radio programs as a result of the blog—speaking up as an advocate for the rights and protection of child actors—but also, hopefully, as a voice of reason for parents going on this journey with their kids. What’s the craziest thing that’s happened since you started this? So many crazy things have happened with Hollywood Mom Blog, both Crazy “Wonderful” and Crazy “Cray Cray.” On the wonderful side, I’ve met amazing kids and parents, several of whom will be featured in this issue as well. I’ve been able to get talented kids meetings with top agents and managers, most of who are now represented. HMB has even connected kids to landing roles in film and television. I’m blown away by the quality of people I’ve met, and grown close to over the last four years. I could easily cast “the child star movie of the century” straight from my cell phone contacts. “Little Darlings 2,” anyone? How about another “Meatballs?”The unfortunate experiences are the revelations I’ve had about the seedier side of the business. Pedophiles—the lowest form of life; and scam artists running “workshops” and selling false promises of fame. Just yesterday, a story broke on Deadline. com about two con men that have been posing as set teachers with faked credentials, the whole nine yards. The parents from HMB helped break the story due to
F E AT U R E Joey King and her family are amazing also. I could name dozens that I just love. What’s the one thing you wish all stage parents knew or did? That supporting each other’s accomplishments is so rewarding and that there’s room in this business for everyone. Yes, on some levels it is an obvious competition, but at the end of the day, the kid who lands the role was likely the best fit for it and there’s another film, commercial or TV role out there that has your kid’s name on it. Or maybe not. Maybe your kid is going to be a rocket scientist or a golfer or an entertainment attorney. The best actors and the best people I’ve met are the ones who don’t feel the need to prove anything. They’re confident in their abilities and gracious. That goes for child actors and their parents as well.
etc. So yes, some aspects of this business are really disheartening. If you could change one thing about the child actor world, what would it be? Do I have to pick just one? All kidding aside, it would be an overall attitude shift regarding the profession of child actors and more respect for the role their parents play. Kids are not props. They are not “less than” other actors on the set because they haven’t hit puberty yet or because they don’t earn as much as their adult counterparts. Child actors are valuable to the industry and they’re even more valuable as individuals. “Modern Family,” arguably the best comedy on television for however many years, has almost as many kids in the cast as it does adults...and those kids are brilliant.
What do you hope to accomplish with HMB? So many things. The website is undergoing some changes behind the scenes which will bring us into the year 2014, thankfully. We are producing our own videos... interviews with talent and industry pros. The first one is with actress Shanelle Gray, Ariel Winter’s older sister and the owner of Grays Studios. I’d like to develop scholarship programs for the HMB kids, and eventually, an awards ceremony for the under 18 set and even for the Hollywood Moms and Dads that support them.
How can you explain the popularity of HMB? Hollywood Mom Blog was first a blog, and then the Twitter following happened, then came the addition of not one, but three Facebook chat groups, which evolved into exclusive HMB movie screenings, volunteer outings, and classes at Disney. I see so many more opportunities for expansion and growth. We (myself and the readers) have become a huge extended family. HMB began as a blog documenting my on-set experiences with my daughter Jordan. But almost immediately, I realized there was a much bigger picture to all of this. You refer to yourself as the opposite of a stage mom. How so? Before my daughter began working, I had a preconceived notion of a “Stage Mom” and what that looked like and it wasn’t pretty. Then I met an amazing woman, Denise Raimi, mom of actor/musician Jonah Bobo, and my whole perception shifted. Jonah’s parents are without question, the antithesis of the stereotype. They put family first, their own moral compass first, and the welfare of their child above all else. That’s when I realized that there had to be more families out there like the Bobo’s. F E AT U R E From Fort Lauderdale, FL, the young actress Bailee Madison has been in several movies and TV shows. While she is not on set she’s using her career and platform to make a change, she is participating in the “Alex’s Lemonade Stand” foundation, which raises money for childhood cancer research. Madison was named the honoree for her philanthropic efforts with the foundation and described her reaction as “shocked and honored.” She said, “I remember attending my first ever Power of Youth event when I was 8 years old and being so impacted by it. Being able to not only attend, but also be honored was a dream come true. Variety is family to me and to be able to grow with them and the Power of Youth program is such a wonderful blessing.” Madison believes that no one is too young to make a difference. She added, “It’s so easy for everyone to get involved and donate, you can register and hold a lemonade stand or do their new Alex’s Million Mile campaign.” When Madison is working and traveling, she holds lemonade stands with the cast and crew or donates as a wrap gift. Aside from the foundation, Madison visits children and their families in hospitals. She is also apart of the “Starlight Children’s Foundation” and “Give Kids the World”, which she started when she did her film “Letters to God.” Madison added, “’Starlight’ was the first charity I became involved in, and really lit the fire in my heart to want to make a difference. I am so fortunate to work with both of these charities that are doing extraordinary things!” Madison started her acting career at a young age. She calls everyday a learning experience. She has worked with big names like Jennifer Anniston, Adam Sandler, Ginnifer Goodwin, Katie Holmes, Billy Crystal, and other big names in the show biz. Even though she started her career at a young age, Madison doesn’t believe it has affected her life. Madison said, “Who I am today mostly has to do with my family and my mom keeping me grounded and being able to be involved with foundations.. It’s helped me see the real world and I’m so thankful for that.” When asked what was her most difficult role has been so far, Madison said playing young Snow in “Once Upon A Time”. She added, “It’s so incredible to play young Snow White, a younger version of Ginnifer Goodwin, because she is so specific and exquisite in everything she does. For me, the challenge is trying to make her proud, trying to find “Snow moments” that she has already effortlessly created. I watch clips, try to crunch my eyebrows like her or even copy how she breathes. It’s a continuous challenge that I love to be a part of.” Throughout her career she’s been given five star advice from the big name actors she’s worked with. Billy Crystal from “Parental Guidance” said to Madison: “Always be truthful and real with every line in the script. Find moments that you can relate to.” Marcia Gay Harden who played her mom on “Trophy Wife” taught Madison to be brave in her choices and “to try as many things as possible and to not be afraid if it fails.” When asked what advice Madison would give to individuals wanting to follow their dreams she said, “Anything is possible! It might take five minutes, five days or five years, but if you love it then keep with it. why don’t we focus more on stopping the problem at its source, the bullying and those who participate in those activities. If we help make people aware of their actions and address the root of the problem as to why they are exhibiting this behavior, it could help to decrease the number of kids who are made to feel bad about themselves by their peers.” One of the platforms she uses for her anti-bullying foundation is the film “Contest”. The film follows two boys, a bully and his victim who ended up forming a friendship due to being forced to work together for a contest. McNamara fell in love with the story when the producers approached her. She says, “ The film isn’t melodramatic, it isn’t preachy, it presents the bullying situations in a way that is realistic to what kids experience every day. She says, “I’m a bit insane when it comes to the workload I give myself. My eyes are bigger than my schedule, I should say. I always bite off almost more than I can chew, but I get it done someway or another. Keeping such a rigorous academic schedule is not easy. It requires a lot, and I do mean a lot, of self-motivation, hard work and dedication. Sleep becomes overrated when you have so much to do, but I thrive on being busy. I am actually more productive when I fill my schedule to the absolute brim than when I have down time.” One of McNamara’s favorite quotes and life mantras is by Henry David Thoreau; “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.” When McNamara was little, her mom hung a quote on the wall that said, “What is popular is not always right, what is right is not always popular.” As she grew up, she said she learned the meaning of that. She adds, “It served as a constant reminder to me that it’s okay to be different.” The advice McNamara gives to individuals wanting to follow their dream is to “go for it and not to let anyone or anything stop you.” She adds, “If you’re truly passionate about something and feel it is what you were put on this earth to do, go for it! There is absolutely nothing wrong with being who you truly are and following your heart. It takes all kinds of people with every passion imaginable to make this world go around. We should learn to appreciate and encourage one another to pursue their passions. It is so important to surround yourself with people that build you up rather than tear you down. If you have people around you that support you and love you for who you are, there is no stopping you. Pursuing a passion is not always an easy path, believe me. But, if you are doing what you love most, the hard work is absolutely worth it.”

Living With Diabetes in the Family By Kristina Goldberg
I was told that if I hadn’t taken my daughter to see the pediatrician the morning she threw up pure water my daughter would have gone into a coma at school later that day. Her blood sugar level was 830, normal is 80-150. We are a family living with type one diabetes. Some days are fine, they seem pretty normal. Other days can be quite scary and I fear for my daughter’s future and her health. Emma is my 10-year-old hero. She is forced to be much more mature than kids her age. She has to deal with hourly ups and downs, 10-15 finger pokes a day, insulin injections just to be able to eat, calculating carbohydrate and insulin. As her endocrinologist says, “there is no science to it at all, you just have to constantly chase the numbers.” Emma never gets a day off from the constant calculating and testing, crossing her fingers and closing her eyes when she tests hoping that she can eat foods like ice cream, fruit and pasta. How many chicken tender pieces can she eat? How many ounces of fruit can she have? It can be frustrating for her when we are out and about seeing her friends eating whatever they want and not even thinking about it.

I am a mom of a sweet little girl who was struck with type one diabetes at the age of six. I had never heard of type one diabetes, I knew nothing about it. No one in my family has ever had it. I was scared and fearful for my daughter, confused and totally unaware of what was happening when her pediatrician sent us to the emergency room. She looked healthy enough to go to school that day. We spent 24 hours in the pediatric ICU and a whole week in the hospital.

Sometimes she’s really hungry and all she wants is macaroni and cheese, spaghetti, pizza, hamburger...normal kid food. When her numbers are high I can’t let her eat those things. She can have a salad, lunchmeat, cheese stick or something with very low carbohydrate. Birthday parties and sleepovers are always a challenge. She’s afraid to sleep at friend’s houses because I won’t be there to check her numbers and be there for support if she needed that. The simplest places we all take for granted are difficult for us; baseball games, the county fair, theme parks, restaurants, even holidays. Everything is based on foods that are high in carbohydrates and sugar.

Complications from T1D can include liver, kidney, thyroid damage, nerve damage, loss of eyesight and blindness, amputations, coma and death. For these reasons, we have to constantly chase her blood sugar levels, monitor her food and insulin intake, count her carbohydrates, weigh and measure her food, play guessing games in restaurants and on the road, make sure she exercises enough, but not too much, swim in pools or the ocean with a pump, worry about her site coming off and wondering if I need to re-inject her catheter, dealing with complications at school, worrying if she overheats while outside playing with friends or at PE, 2 a.m. blood sugar checks, give her shots when her pump site stops working, re-inject her catheter every three day... and living a normal life. Something so simple as eating when you are hungry is not possible for kids like Emma. She has to get her tester, poke her finger with a needle, squeeze out some blood, place it on the test strip on her tester, wait for the number to come up on the screen and if it is a good Blood Glucose number, then she can count the carbohydrates in the food she is going to eat, enter that number and the PDM calculates how much insulin she needs, called a Bolus, (your pancreas does this automatically just by you looking at food you are going to eat!) and then press GO on the PDM and her pump starts delivering the insulin via the catheter in her arm. Then she can sit down to eat. If her number is low, that means she will need 15-20 g of carbohydrates to bring her up to a normal number and she will not need the insulin.

What is Type 1 Diabetes? The more severe form of diabetes is type 1, or insulin-dependent diabetes. It’s sometimes called “juvenile” diabetes, because type 1 diabetes usually develops in children and teenagers, though it can develop at any age. With type 1 diabetes, the body’s immune system attacks part of its own pancreas. Scientists are not sure why. But the immune system mistakenly sees the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas as foreign, and destroys them. This attack is known as "autoimmune" disease. These cells – called “islets” (pronounced EYE-lets) – are the ones that sense glucose in the blood and, in response, produce the necessary amount of insulin to normalize blood sugars. Insulin serves as a “key” to open your cells, to allow the glucose to enter -- and allow you to use the glucose for energy. Without insulin, there is no “key.” So, the sugar stays -- and builds up-- in the blood. The result: the body’s cells starve from the lack of glucose. And, if left untreated, the high level of “blood sugar” can damage eyes, kidneys, nerves, and the heart, and can also lead to coma and death. November is National Diabetes Awareness Month

Girl meets world
ROwAN BLANCHARD In 2013, after an extensive national search, Blanchard was cast as Riley Matthews in the Disney Channel series Girl Meets World. The titular character is the daughter of Cory and Topanga from the cult classic hit show of the 90’s Boy Meets World. Blanchard was born in Los Angeles, California, to Elizabeth Folk and Mark Blanchard. Her paternal great-grandfather was an immigrant from the Syria who came over on Ellis Island and her paternal great-grandmother's ancestors are Portuguese-Hawaiian. Rowan has a younger sister - Carmen and a little brother named Shane. Girl Meets World airs on Disney Channel on Fridays at 8:30pm.
Rowan Blanchard (born October 14, 2001) began acting in commercials as a 5-year old. At age 9, Rowan was cast as Mona's daughter in the The Back-up Plan and was in the main cast of Disney Junior Original Series Dance-A-Lot Robot as Caitlin.
