Hanging Gardens Of babylon Uncovered! By Cole Stecker
It was our first day of vacation in Baghdad, we were touring the desert looking at Ziggurats. We were on our way to the campground when It started to get dark. I called out, “Mom I am tired!” She replied, “Stop being so lazy Matt!” she called back. I started to get hot and drowsy. and the next thing I knew I woke up somewhere unfamiliar in the desert, hungry and alone!
I got up scared to death and ran around frantically trying to find footprints to follow, but they were all gone. So I choose a direction and started walking. I walked until I could not walk anymore. I climbed a hill and saw a little patch of green“ An oasis!” I bellowed out loud. I felt a surge of energy run through my body and I rushed down the hill into the oasis.
I ate and drank like a ferocious animal, and found a small cave to set camp for the night. I found an old canteen and filled it with water and put it into my pocket. Then I took green, soft moss and made a sort of a bed to stay through the night. I put my coat on me like a blanket, and slowly fell asleep. In the morning, I heard a growling from nearby! I poked my head around and saw a desert wolf getting a drink of water.
I noticed it seemed it was trying to find food because the way it sniffed so loudly! I started to sneak out of the camp to make a run for it. I darted away from the oasis like an Olympic sprinter, and the second I left the wolf turned and ran toward me! I searched around for a weapon and saw a large stick. I grabbed it and made a huge swing at the wolf. It hit him right in the face! He flew back and made a loud whining noise. The wolf charged at me with a fast leap! It pounced on me and knocked me over. I hit the ground with a loud thud!
I scrambled to my feet and started running with the wolf close behind. I stumbled up a dune and the wolf made another attack! This time it was so mad that the growling hurt my ears. It charged with such anger straight at me! I hopped onto the ground just dodging the attack. I noticed that I landed on the side of the hill and fell down the hill! The hill was long with lots of sharp rocks and at the end was a large cliff! I tried to stop myself but it was no use I was going to fall off!
“Ouch!” I shrieked in pain as a sharp rock jabbed my leg! Then, I slipped off the cliff and plummeted down! *splash!* I noticed I fell in a deep river with a wild current. I was safe or was I, the current in this river was crazy and I was having trouble staying on the surface!
Then I saw a long rock on the side of the river! I grabbed the rock and with all my strength. I hoisted myself up and my mouth dropped. I shook my head, pinched myself, and slapped my face, but it was still there. Directly in front of me was a large, old, beaten up ziggurat! I Slowly I stood up and looked around. The place had no sign that a human had ever been there. I wondered whether I was the first person to lay eyes on this astonishing structure? Then It hit me, I remembered my social studies class when we learned about the Hanging Gardens Of Babylon! Could this be it?, I thought to myself.
I rushed forward and walked up the steps of the mighty temple. It was just like I had imagined it. At the top, there was a room with some kind of God statue at the top. I touched the statue and a small doorway opened up! I noticed that I pulled a strand of string on the statue. I crawled in the trap door and I saw a large room full of gold and other riches, and on the small table was a map.
I put the map in my pocket then went outside and built a help sign with wood and sticks. I sat outside looking at some of the treasures that I had found and stuffed some into a sack I found in the secret room. It started getting late, so I built camp on the steps of the ziggurat. I awoke to a loud propeller sound and I looked up there was a helicopter landing on the ground in front of me. Out ran my mom with a giant first aid kit! When she reached me she put a long bandage on my injured foot and then she hugged me. “ I thought we would never find you.” my mom said. “I knew I would be okay” I replied Then an officer walked up to me and said, “ What is that!” pointing at the ziggurat. “Only the Hanging Gardens Of Babylon.” I said. Then he got back in the helicopter and called the press. A few minutes later I was telling my story. “Well, first I got lost then I fought a wolf then I fell off a cliff then I got washed down a river and then I found the hanging gardens.” When I went home there was a check for one million dollars on my doorstep!
