Noahs Ark By: Jack Schrotberger
My arms rose as I woke up from the the sound of the plane landing in the Baghdad airport. I moaned as the thought of trying to make new friends crept into my mind. As my Mom, my Dad, my sister casey, and my brother Austin stepped out of of the airport I saw the rental car waiting and the lights of Baghdad. When we all hopped into the rental car my mom said, “Go back to sleep guys it is going to be a while until we get to Turkey.”
As my brother, and my sister, and I woke as we got to Turkey. We saw our new house and jumped out of the car. When we ran into the house we “ood” and “aad” with excitement, but still I thought it wasn't as good as our old house in America. This house was small and blue our old house was white and average size, and I preferred white and average sized house. But I thought to myself, it’s the best we’ve got, considering that my dad recently lost his job and has just got one in Turkey.
My older brother and I asked our parents to take a walk around the mountains, to clear our minds of the horrible thoughts of starting over in a new school in Turkey. As our parents said yes we ran out the door and decided to climb up the highest mountain we saw, or at least half way. When we got outside we noticed that Turkey is nothing like America, Turkey seemed desolate, dry, sunny, and hot. We started up this one mountain that caught our eye.
One quarter of the way up my brother said, “Do you know what mountain this is Jack?” I replied with a calm no. When we hit the halfway point I noticed animal droppings and a piece of metal on the ground. When these two things caught my eye I said, “Austin look at this.” As he turned around at started walking towards me he tripped and fell. I ran over to him to see if he was ok.
He said I tripped over a rock then he pointed at a bump in the ground. Then I ran over to the bump in the ground and noticed that it wasn’t dirt it was gopher wood. Austin, “I think this is gopher wood” I said. So Austin limped over and said yeah, “It kind of looks like the side of a large boat.”So we both started dusting off the side and both agreed it was a side of a large boat.“We should try to dig it out, and maybe we could get friends from school to help dig it up,’’said Austin.
But before we plan on doing this we should go home for bed it is almost eight. “Ok, but don’t tell Mom and Dad they will think were crazy finding a boat on a mountain” said Austin. So we walked home for a good night of sleep. When I woke up early the next morning I ate breakfast, got dressed, then Casey, Austin, and I ran to the school bus.
“What time is it?” I said, after falling asleep in class of our new school “About three” my new friend said. “Great, time to go and try to dig up that boat” I said.
“Let’s go get more people,” my new friend Billy said, “Ok” I replied and ran out the door with him in front of me.
Billy, who looked like a bolt of glasses, brown hair, and blue eyes ran up to Austin and asked him, “how long do you think it is going to take?” Austin replied with a calm “50 days,” while walking out of the school with ten other friends that I surprisingly made on the first day of my new Turkish school. As we reached the mountain and went one quarter of the way up we saw the half boat again, and I said, “let’s start digging guy’s.” So my friends and I started digging, with the shovels we got on the way to the mountain.
After an hour of digging and goofing off we noticed that the boat was much bigger than we thought it would be. It was like a base of a house, but oval in shape. When Austin,my friends, and I were too tired to work any more we stopped and went to our houses for a good night of sleep. The next day, Austin, my friends, some upper
schoolers, Casey, and I helped dig. If my parents knew they would think that were crazy, but I knew this boat was just more than a large ship, I could feel it
.
After a long month of back breaking after school digging the ship was almost revealed, so I said to my friends just ten more days and the boat will hopefully come out. Eventually on the 8th day my friends got sick of digging but luckily I convinced them to keep on digging by talking about the reward we could get if the boat is something special. On the tenth and final day the boat was finally revealed so everyone got their parents and
when the parents arrived they almost passed out with excitement. By our parents we were informed that we had just found Noah’s Ark.
So this is what you guys were doing in those 40 days, I thought you guys were playing soccer or football when you went out here, said our parents. “This is Noah’s ark!” I said. “Yes,” said my Dad, I can tell because of the fossilized animal droppings. We will split the money we get for selling it I said to all of the parents and friends.
“Does this mean we can go back to america and you can ditch this job,” I said to Dad. “Yes, it does Jack,’ said my Dad.
