“Are you ready to get to Iraq, buddy?” Greg Smith asked his son, “I am ready and very excited to start our trip.” Max responded. They were in the airplane flying to Iraq from America. It was just a father and son trip. They traveled to Iraq to go exploring. They landed in the evening at the Baghdad International Airport. From there they went to their hotel. It was a tall, narrow building near the desert. When they arrived at their hotel room they immediately fell asleep.
The next morning they left their hotel and went out into the open land. They were out in the desert searching for random things for fun. “Are we ever going to find anything?” Max asked “It is called searching not finding for a reason.” Greg answered. They were out in the desert for hours searching.
They sat down for lunch and each of them had a sandwich they made earlier in the day. It was about three o’clock when all of a sudden it started getting very windy, and they sand started to rise off of the ground. They each looked at each other and they both yelled, “SANDSTORM!!!!!!”
They looked around and Max spotted a cave two football fields behind them. “Dad, look, a cave it is not that far away,” Max told his father, “Good eyes Max, quick, run before the sandstorm reaches us.” Greg said. They turned around and sprinted to the cave. The sandstorm was on their tail chasing them to the cave. When the were ten yards away for the cave, the sandstorm caught them. They couldn’t see anything. They just ran straight and hoped they would run into the cave. They entered the cave and sat down hugging each other for dear life.
It was about nine o’clock P.M. when the sandstorm had ended, they stop hugging each other and looked behind them. Behind them was the Statue Of Gilgamesh. They couldn’t believe their eyes. They took many pictures of the statue. They didn’t want to take the statue because it could break very easily.
The story of Gilgamesh is one of the oldest recorded stories in the world. Gilgamesh was the fifth king of Uruk. He was believed to be twothirds god and onethird human. His mother was the goddess Ninsun. Also, his father was a high priest. They were very happy and wanted to find something else.
Before they even knew it, their trip was over. When they arrived at home Max went back to school. In his Social Studies class they were learning about the Mesopotamians and the teacher was talking about Gilgamesh and she said the Statue of Gilgamesh did not exist.
“It does too exist!” Max blurted out during class, “No it does not Max” his teacher responded, “Tomorrow let me prove it to the class. Okay?” Max asked, “Alright Max, show us your proof”
The next day Max came into school with his pictures and the whole class had that stunned look on their face, including the teacher. Max and his dad will never forget their great trip to Iraq. No one else ever found the Statue of Gilgamesh again.
