The Uncovering of the Tombs of Ur

3, 2, 1 schools out I’m very excited because I’m going to Iraq for summer vacation. After school my dad picks me up from school “ Hey Dad!” I say, “Hey there Bob, are you ready to go to Iraq!” Said Dad, “ Yeah!”

The next day I get on the plane to Iraq. The plane is so boring first of all a baby was crying the whole time, second of all the plain ride was thirteen hours, third of all the seats were hard as a rock so it was impossible to sleep.

“ Finally we're here! I say in relief. When me and my mom arrive in Iraq we drive to a hotel the hotel is very nice, it has a pool, and a place outside to play. The hotel is in the southern banks of Iraq near the Royal Tomb of Ur.

They say there are many historical figures there, they say there is a tomb near where I’m staying. It is called the Royal Tomb of Ur.

I read about the tombs. I read that it is very ancient and sacred. I want to go look for it maybe I’ll find something in there.

So I get ready and in the afternoon I get ready to go look for the tomb “ Mom, I’m going to look for the tombs of Ur!” I tell her. “OK good luck,” she replies. I head out and go to look for the tomb. I didn’t think I would find it but you never know.

When I walk around I come across a city-state maybe it is the city-state of Ur I think.

I went to the center of the city-state, it was once ruled by Babylonians and many laws were invented such as the code of Hammurabi, I found a set of stairs leading into a dark hole it was the tomb it was made out of mud-brick.The tomb required many people to build went down the stairs and light a match and I saw so many walls with so many cuneiform symbols. There were symbols that looked like the sun there were also ones that looked like mountains cuneiform was used for hundreds of years.

I went down a hall and found a big box it had pictures all over it it was called the war and peace box which was one of the many historic artifacts in the tomb. It was beautiful with all the details it was gold and blue. The war and peace box is one of the most treasured items in the royal tomb of Ur.

I took it and went on my way out of the tomb but I tripped over a long box I slowly opened it and I saw a very scary mummy it was old and dead there was a piece of gold in its hand I was about to grab it but then I saw its face I ran out screaming when I saw the light and took a breath of fresh air then I ran all the way back to the hotel.

“Mom look at this!” I showed her the box she was dumbfounded then I told her about the mummy the firsting she said was “we have to sell this to a museum!” so we went to the nearest museum. We got 5,000,000! We split the money 50-50. We spent the rest of the vacation relaxing.

When we got home I went on a huge shopping spree. I get a

bunch of video games and gadgets. On the first day of school I found out that in history class we were learning about Mesopotamia. The whole class I thought about the trip and the war and peace box and the mummy and the rest of the trip. It was a great trip and I will never forget it.
