A Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra Sunday 8 November 2.30pm Symphony Hall So, OK then – what exactly IS an orchestra? Why is the piccolo so small? Why are the double basses so big? And what on earth does a xylophone sound like? In this entertaining concert for the whole family, the CBSO will show you exactly how it all works, with a bit of help from Benjamin Britten’s Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra – and there’ll be a chance to meet the orchestra afterwards too!

Randolph Matthews Saturday 10 October
What happens if you cross Bobby McFerrin, Youssou n’dour and Seal with a vocal percussionist? Vocal voyager Randolph Matthews creates a musical explosion of clicks and glottal stops, jazz percussive melodies and songs made up of audience members’ names! His unique blend of jazz, soul and ethnic beatbox has him following his love for interactive performance around the globe.
Percussion Special: Goggie Ifill and Bethan Jones Saturday 7 November
Specialising in African drumming and tuned percussion, the brilliant percussionists Goggie and Bethan will take you on an adventure through the music of Africa using drums, percussion and singing, as well as creating a special freestyle performance. All you need is hands and voices for a morning of noisy music making!
Christmas Special: Metropolitan Brass Quintet Saturday 12 December
Our old friends and firm audience favourites, the Metropolitan Brass Quintet, return with festive music and cheer, along with their great mix of humour, style and even hosepipe horns, performing Christmas classics, along with a wide variety of classical, film and popular music from around the world.

Join our intrepid adventurers on their quest to find a bear; as they wade through the gigantic swishy swashy grass, the splishy splashy river and the thick oozy, squelchy mud! Direct from a smash-hit West End and international tour, Michael Rosen’s award-winning book We’re Going On A Bear Hunt (illustrated by Helen Oxenbury) is brought vividly and noisily to the stage in director Sally Cookson’s fun-filled adaptation, set to Benji Bower’s versatile and lively score.
