Isata Kanneh-Mason: I think you know if it’s a good concert if you are taken on a journey through the many different emotions of the music from start to finish, without losing concentration. I always feel a very complicated mix of emotions whilst performing a concert. Beforehand I am usually nervous, to varying degrees of intensity, but as soon as I walk out onto the stage that mostly fades. For me, performing a concert isn’t about me, it’s about the audience and their experience of the music. The music I’m playing also has a wide range of emotions, and I am therefore very focused on delivering the emotion of each phrase in the best possible way. The way I feel watching a concert depends on the player and the music. If it is a good concert then I’ll usually feel inspired. I think you know if it’s a good concert if you are taken on a journey through the many different emotions of the music from start to finish, without losing concentration.

Isata Kanneh-Mason joins Sheku Kanneh-Mason in recital on Saturday 18 July 2020.

There isn’t a sound system in the world that compares to the thrill of hearing a full symphony orchestra reaching for the stars in the stunning, world-class acoustic of Symphony Hall. This is a venue built to celebrate the power of sound, and equipped with one of the UK’s most powerful pipe organs. And these are the concerts that let you experience that sound to the maximum: the mightiest of symphonies and choral works, music guaranteed to raise the roof. You’ll feel the air shake and your spine tingle - and all from the comfort of your seat. Hold tight, it’s going to be quite a ride!

Music doesn’t have to be loud to speak to your heart. Some of the greatest masterpieces of all time were written for just one musician. A handful of instruments or singers can sometimes communicate more powerfully than the mightiest orchestra. But whether it’s in the jewel-like acoustic of Symphony Hall, or in the beautiful surroundings of Birmingham’s historic Town Hall, we know how to bring you chamber music at its very best. Nothing comes between you and some of music’s most intimate – and inspiring – experiences.

BIG Tunes, BIG Feelings

No music gets under your skin quite like classical music - and when a great composer chooses to bare their soul, you might discover emotions you never knew you had. The tragedy and triumph of Beethoven and Brahms; the drama of Shostakovich or the passion of Tchaikovsky. The joy of a massed chorus in full voice; or the dizzying, dazzling excitement of a virtuoso pianist. You already know the tunes - and these concerts are simply bursting with melody! But above all, it’s about those feelings. We’ll send you home transported.
