“I want the caption to be: I demolished it,” said Birmingham punk star Toyah Willcox, as she was photographed alongside local musician Rosie Tee outside the redevelopment of Symphony Hall’s foyer in October 2 019 . The Birmingham musicians were at the world-renowned music venue in the city centre to witness progress on the Making an Entrance redevelopment, which will create a performance space for talented local artists to have even more opportunities to perform as part of a daily programme with free and affordable performances. Songwriter Rosie Tee said: “Through opportunities presented to me by Town Hall Symphony Hall, I’ve been given a supportive platform for my contemporary and experimental take on song-writing to bloom. I can’t wait to see the new development and how positively it’s going to impact the next generation of musicians.” making-an-entrance.co.uk

The Lost Words: Spell Songs

Assassin’s Creed Symphony

In 2018 the Folk by the Oak Festival was overjoyed to commission Spell Songs, a musical companion piece to The Lost Words by author Robert Macfarlane and artist Jackie Morris; a celebrated ‘spell book’ rich with poetic rhythms and imagined birdsong that naturally invited a musical response.

For the very first time, audiences will be able to experience the rich musical history of the Assassin’s Creed franchise live in concert, in a multi-media symphonic project.

Spell Songs gathered together eight remarkable musicians whose music engages deeply with landscape and nature, to respond to the creatures, art and language of The Lost Words. Featuring: Karine Polwart, Julie Fowlis, Seckou Keita, Kris Drever, Kerry Andrew, Rachel Newton, Beth Porter and Jim Molyneux.
