S

pring is just around the corner and you’re probably getting a little Spring Fever about now and are ready to get out and ride! Tonight, as I sit here and write this letter, we have had 3 rounds of hazardous weather in a week, we have had sleet, snow, ice, more snow, our neighborhood streets are treacherous due to all the ice that was under the snow. We broke some weather related records with temps well below normal and moisture above normal, but I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, “welcome to Tennessee, where the weather is always subject to change!” Riding weather days will soon be here, you can look at the Events page and tell with all the rides, poker runs, bike shows, swap meets, and bike nights, YES Bike Nights, finally! We can look forward to the First Day of Spring on the 20th, if you’re a motorcycle rider, there’s nothing like the first hint of warm spring weather to make you want to rev up your bike and hit the open road. With Spring motorcycle riding comes extra obstacles: watch for potholes, sand and drivers that are not expecting to see you on the road. It is important to start with a fully charged, good battery and fresh premium fuel. Your motorcycle has to be as ready for the riding season as you are – which means checking your motorcycle to ensure that it meets all the basic safety checks and requirements. Can you believe that Thunder Roads® is 22 years old this month!? In March of 1999 Thunder Roads® Magazine started as a black and white newsprint magazine in Tennessee. It has taken 22 years and a ton of hard work from a lot of people to bring you what you are holding in your hands. We feel privileged to be a part of the motorcycle community, and we can’t thank you, our readers enough for your support. Thanks for reading and here’s to the next 22 years! Keep an eye on our Facebook page, we’ll be giving away some swag to celebrate! And PLEASE don’t forget our loyal advertisers that allow us to keep printing this magazine free to you and shop those advertisers that support us. Be sure and check out the Thunder Roads® Word Search in this issue for a chance to win some cool Thunder Roads® Tennessee prizes, like bottle and can koozies, shot glasses, patches, and more! Just mail your completed puzzle to us and we will draw one winner each month from all the correctly completed puzzles. Good luck and congrats to last month’s winner! Happy St. Patrick’s! May your blessings outnumber the Shamrocks that grow, and may trouble avoid you wherever you go. Go mbeannai Dia duit Ride Hard Live Free, Denise & Scott

REHOBOTH BEACH

A

lot of riders enjoy the scenic roads and unique villages in New England. In the summertime, it is also nice to take a break and enjoy a nice beach day. In the southeast corner of Delaware, on State Highway 1, Rehoboth Beach provides a scenic and relaxing stop. Its mile long boardwalk along the ocean is clustered with bars, clubs, and eateries, enough to satisfy any tastes. Nearby Cape Henlopen State Park has camping, fishing, sand dunes and remnants of WII’s Fort Miles with bunkers, gun emplacements and concrete observation towers. In 1873, Rehoboth Beach started out as The Rehoboth Beach Camp Meeting Association of the Methodist Episcopal Church when Robert Todd saw, in a dream, the white beaches where tall grasses grew and shellfish crawled in the surf. His dream led him to this beach and he purchased 144 acres and established “the encampment grounds”. Thankfully,

today the name is shortened to Rehoboth Beach. Also, luckily today alcohol is served, although drinking is prohibited on the boardwalk and the beach. Smoking is also prohibited on the beach and in “smoke- free areas” in the city. There is a wide variety of restaurants along the boardwalk, most of which specialize in seafood. However, locals will tell you that no trip to the beach would be complete without Thrasher’s French Fries with salt and vinegar. Funland provides thrill rides, so it is also appropriate to drop in to the Funnel Cake Factory. There is the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand which provides free entertainment, including music, movies, variety acts, and other performances throughout the year. Maybe this is the year that you will decide to take in the beauty of New England and visit some of the local seaside beaches. Ride Safe and Have Fun!! Cooper

Bullet Points

REMEMBER, THEY’RE NOT COMING FOR OUR GUNS! Good day, fellow bikers, Second Amendment supporters and Patriots! As I type this month’s Bullet Points article, it is a balmy 19 degrees outside and there is a fresh blanket of snow on the ground. Over the past couple of weeks, we have rarely had a high in the 50s – our normal high for this time of year. But I have been able to get out and do some riding – albeit with all my heavy heated gear on. Being that you will not be reading this until March 1, I certainly hope we are getting into some nice spring weather by then! With the new presidential administration being sworn in less than a month ago, and the Democrats gaining control of both chambers of congress, I had been waiting for the proverbial shoe to drop regarding a push for “commonsense gun control laws.” The wait was not very long, as on January 4, 2021, the YUGE assnozzle, Representative Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-TX) introduced HR 127, a bill named Sabika Sheikh Firearm Licensing and Registration Act. It seems they probably had things ready, much earlier, to “Come and Take Our Guns!” This bill will inevitably go down as one of the most dangerous assaults to the Second Amendment since the founding of our country. Named for Sabika Sheikh, an exchange student from Pakistan, who was killed on May 18, 2018 at Santa Fe (TX) High School, this bill is nothing less than a full-frontal assault on our Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

1. 2. 3. 4.

😳

This bill puts the United States Attorney General – and Department of Justice – in the insurance business! In order to be licensed the licensee will pay an annual insurance premium of $800! The bill is somewhat vague as it doesn’t specify if an individual licensee has to purchase this for each firearm or if the one fee covers the person and all of their gun collection. So, one has to wonder what the fines for breaking any of these draconian laws? Well, I will tell all y’all! 1. 2.

What’s in the Bill? Here is a quick snapshot of what Ms. Jackson-Lee has in her Leftist wet dream: 1.

2. 3. 4.

Firearm owners have to transfer the make, model and serial number of all firearms they owned previous to the bill’s passage, to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives – who will maintain a database Firearms owned before the bill was passed must be transmitted to BATFE within three months New purchases will be transmitted on the purchase date The database will be accessible by all members of the public, Federal, state and local law enforcement, all branches of the military and state and local governments (not only do they want to know where all the guns are, they want your crazy neighbors to know as well – and let’s not forget all of the criminals who would like to steal those legally licensed firearms! Wait, What?)

Requirements of the law will include: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

The individual to be at least 21 years old They must pass another national instant criminal background check They must undergo a psychological evaluation to prove they are not unsuited to possess a firearm Complete a minimum of 24 hours of firearms training which is approved by the United States Attorney General Have purchased a liability insurance policy through the Attorney General (the ultimate red herring!)

And wait, if you own one of those scary black military rifles additional requirements to obtain your license:

😳 there are

Undergo specific training for this type of firearm of at least 24 hours Undergo a psychological examination by a licensed psychologist approved by the Attorney General Any family members who MAY have access to the scary assault rifle will also have to undergo the same psychological examination The licensed psychologist will also conduct background interviews of current and former spouses, and at least two other family members or associates of the individual to determine said individual’s state of emotional, mental and relational stability (WTF? )

3.

If you possess a firearm without a license you face a fine of between $75,000-$150,000 and/or imprisonment for not less than 15 years or more than 25 years If you transfer a firearm to an unlicensed individual, or loan them a firearm or ammunition, you may be fined between $50,000$75,000 and/or imprisonment for not less than 10 years or more than 15 years If you do not have valid insurance, issued by the Attorney General, you may be fined between $50,000-$100,000 and/or imprisonment for not less than 10 year or more than 20 years

In order for any of this to be possible, Ms. Jackson Lee’s bill would strike the previous Federal provision which prohibited the establishment of a Centralized Firearms Registration System! Lastly, buried in Ms. Jackson Lee’s bill, under Section 3, Prohibition on Possession of Certain Ammunition, is a provision to outlaw ammunition over .50 caliber – which applies to very few individuals. But most disturbing in this section is the prohibition of magazines, or other feeding devices, which either allow for a capacity of over 10 rounds of ammunition or can be modified to accept more than 10 rounds – except for a carve out for .22 caliber firearms. This bill will be the biggest assault on your Right to Keep and Bear Arms since the Clinton Assault Weapons ban of the 1990s. And today, the NRA is all but neutered – fighting bankruptcy. Make sure you call you Federal state representative and Senators Marsha Blackburn and Bill Haggerty and voice you opposition to this bill which will gut our Second Amendment rights. Until next month, keep the shiny side up! ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ Mike Noirot – The Grey Beard Biker™ gbb@TheGreyBeardBiker.com https://TheGreyBeardBiker.com

“SPIRITUAL WARFARE” We must understand that satan has launched an all-out assault on the Church in these last days, he has but one goal and that is to divide the Church. Besides the normal everyday pressures of life, we now must deal with this pandemic, failing economy, violence in the streets aimed at law enforcement, government buildings, small business, we can’t trust the news media any longer, the last election was a joke, and now the government wants to stop the churches from singing, praying aloud, allowing only 25% of the membership to attend church services, eventually closing down our Churches. Satan’s plan is to get us focused on the problems instead of the solutions, by taking our attention off of the Word of God. It is the old “Trojan Horse” move. How many hours have we spent watching the news, discussing, arguing and debating all these issues compared to praying, studying God’s Word, confessing God’s word, and being in the House of God? We are becoming “virtual believers.” If we are not careful, satan can use even the strongest Christian to do his bidding. Matt.16:16 “Peter answered and said, thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Vs.17 “Jesus answered…flesh & blood (the natural) did not reveal it unto thee, but my father which is in heaven (the spiritual).” Just a few minutes later in Vs.22 “Then Peter took Him (manhandled Jesus) and began to rebuke Him (reprimanded Jesus). Then Jesus said to Peter “get the behind me satan.” satan had used Peter to get at Jesus; Notice that Jesus didn’t address Peter, but addressed satan who used Peter, and if we are not careful, we can fall into the same trap as Peter. Rom.6:16 “know ye not that whom ye yield yourselves to obey, his servants ye are…” We are made in the image of God, we are a speaking spirit with great power, if satan can get us to think evil, we will speak evil and our actions will be evil. When we get angry, we attract every evil work. Every action we take, will release the power of God in our life or it will open the door to satan. James 1:20 “For the wrath of man worketh not the

righteousness of God.” James 3:16 “For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.” But our God tells us how to overcome these attacks; Eph.6:10-14 “…be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.” Let’s take a look at what we are up against; Vs.12 For we wrestle (hand to hand combat) not against flesh & blood (people), but against; principalities, powers, rulers of darkness, spiritual wickedness in high places.’ satan wants us to focus on people and not the root of the problem, himself. When we get angry with people, we open the door for all this demonic activity. Until next time, keep your face in the wind and your kickstand up. To be found faithful, Pastor Ron

by Bob “Bulldog” Ousley Dear Fellow Veterans and Patriots: Have you noticed the number of billionaires who are influencing elections and the stock market? Any idea what would link the extremely wealthy together and motivate them to throw patriotism under the bus? There is a very insightful article by Lee Smith, titled; “The Thirty Tyrants”. You can easily find it on the internet if you look it up by that title and his name. It is well researched and lays out how during the early years of the Obama administration a host of billionaires chose money over patriotism and hooked their trailer to China. I’ve been curious for a long time about how so many American corporations could abandon American workers and leave the United States for China and a host of other overseas countries. I’ve also been curious about how this migration, which actually began under Bill Clinton and was continued under George Bush, was not stopped by our elected representatives in Washington DC. Maybe you saw the video of a Chinese speaker bragging about how China has bought influence in the American media and with our elected politicians. For many years China has been buying stock in American Corporations to gain influence, access their technology and gain control over them. Today hundreds of America’s biggest corporations are controlled or heavily influenced by China. Senator Mitch McConnell’s wife benefits from family interests in a shipping company that profits heavily from business with China. President Biden’s son, Hunter, has received millions of dollars from China and reportedly still has stock in at least one major Chinese corporation. If you want to find out why the social media companies and major American corporations openly support the Democrat party’s push for Marxism and undermining our economy you only have to look for the connections to China. Jeff Bezos, who started Amazon, is now the world’s wealthiest man and owns the Washington Post newspaper. Amazon makes billions of dollars on merchandise manufactured in China and continues to put profit over patriotism. Twitter, Microsoft, Facebook, and Amazon all make billions of dollars in coordination with China and the Marxist politicians who do their bidding. Amazon profits and dominates the cloud market just as the company leads the world of e-commerce. For many years the CIA has used Amazon servers and the new administration is in the process of farming out server contracts to multiple corporations that may include Google, Microsoft, IBM and Oracle in addition to Amazon. All of the companies have major ties to China. President Trump is a billionaire who could have jumped on this train and profited by catering to China but he didn’t. He put America first and

recut agreements with China that started to bring jobs and fair trade back to our country. You can see what the result was. The American economy boomed, unemployment dropped to historically low levels and minority communities finally received the jobs and economic opportunities that had only been promised by the democrats for decades. Trump’s deals moved many corporations that left the United States and went to China to come back home and use American labor. The billionaires wanted to continue to make profits off of Chinese slave labor joined with the Democrats who were losing control of minorities and had worked under Obama to convert our nation to Marxism. For over 4 years they did everything they could do to undercut the Trump administration and insure making America Great Again was stomped out. They are scared to death Trump will run and win in 2024 and make America Great AGAIN!! The Biden administration is issuing unprecedented executive orders to reverse everything the Trump administration did. The goal is to push corporations back to China, to weaken our economy, import hundreds of thousands of unskilled illegal aliens from South and Central America all to erase the middle class and force the majority of our population onto government-controlled programs and subsistence. High prices and inflation are coming and it’s on purpose!! So, what can we little people do about all of this? First, we can speak truth and not let the government tell us what we can say or how to think. We can look around and make our own decisions about what is reality and what is not!! Why are schools still closed when children are the least affected by a virus, born in China, that has a survival rate over 99%? What makes sense about reversing energy independence and going back to high gas prices? Why am I being called a white supremacist terrorist insurrectionist? How does following the United States Constitution and saying the pledge of allegiance make any American a subversive? What dumbass is running this train and what makes reporters and Hollywood loons the almighty who know what’s best for me and my family. Babies deserve to be born, I should be able to speak my mind, and preachers should be free to call out politicians who trash the bible’s teachings. Truth is truth and no billionaire, media mouth or politician can piss on my boot and tell me it’s raining!! This is America, not China!!! Keep the faith. Thank a vet for the freedoms we still enjoy and support politicians who will bring back the ones we’ve lost. Fly the flag of the people and be proud you’re an American. Hug the families of those still missing because their quest for closure has not ended. Live the good life and ride for those who can’t. Into a Belfast pub comes Paddy Murphy, looking like he’d just been run over by a train. His arm is in a sling, his nose is broken, his face is cut and bruised and he’s walking with a limp. “What happened to you?” asks Sean, the bartender. “ Jamie O’Conner and me had a fight,” says Paddy. “That little shite, O’Conner,” says Sean, “He couldn’t do all of that to you, he must have had something in his hand.” “That he did,” says Paddy, “a shovel is what he had, and a terrible lickin’ he gave me with it.” “Well,” says Sean, “you should have defended yourself, didn’t you have something in your hand?” That I did,” said Paddy. “His wife, Kelly O’Conner’s titty, and a thing of beauty it was, but useless in a fight.” -------------------------------------------------------------A blonde is sitting on a bed in an E.R. examination room after a fender bender and the Doctor walks in and leans on the wall while reading her chart. He closes her chart and pulls out his phone to answer a few work related texts. After about 5 minutes the blonde is feeling rather annoyed and asks, “So what’s going on Doctor?” The Doc replies, “Oh, I apologize, we’re just waiting on your x-ray.” The blonde replies, “But I’ve never dated anyone named Ray.” -------------------------------------------------------------An older and wiser businessman was getting ready to go on a long business trip. He knew his much, much younger, lovely wife would have a difficult time being faithful while he was gone so he decided to go to a sex shop to find something to entertain his young wife. An even wiser and older Chinese man listened to his dilemma, reached under the counter and produced an ancient, beautifully carved box where inside was a bright red dildo. He told the businessman it was called VooDoo Dick. He commanded ‘Voo Doo Dick, the door!” VooDoo Dick flew thru the air and started screwing the keyhole. The wise man yelled ‘VooDoo Dick” return to your home.” It floated back into it’s box. The businessman took it home and told his wife the command of “VooDoo Dick, My Vagina!”. He departed for his trip w/o telling her the ‘Return to Home’ command. When she 1st used it VooDoo Dick screwed her for two hours straight and the woman barely made it to her car to drive to the E.R. but was having orgasms while

driving to the hospital and swaying all over the road. A big burly cop pulled her over and asked “just how much have you had to drink blondie? You’re driving like a cut monkey”. She quickly explained about her husband’s gift of the VooDoo Dick and what happened at home while VooDoo Dick was still in her crotch and she was twitching away. The cop threw back his head and laughed and laughed and saiid, “Wow blondie, this is going to be the best arrest story of the year at the bar tonight! That’s one helluva doozie....VooDoo Dick My Ass!” --------------------------------------------------------------Knock Knock Who’s there? Irish! Irish who? Irish you a truly happy St Patty’s Day! --------------------------------------------------------------An Irishman went to Confession in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. “Father,” he confessed, “it has been one month since my last confession. I had sex with Pussie Green twice last month.” The Priest told the sinner, “You are forgiven. Go out and say three Hail Mary’s.” Soon thereafter, another Irishman entered the confessional, “Father, it has been two months since my last confession. I’ve had sex with Pussie Green twice a week for the past two months.” This time, the Priest questioned, “Who is this Pussie Green?” “A new woman in the neighborhood,” the sinner replied. “Very well,” sighed the Priest, “go and say ten Hail Mary’s.” At mass the next Christmas morning, as the Priest prepared to deliver the sermon, a tall, voluptuous, drop-dead gorgeous redheaded woman entered the sanctuary. The eyes of every man in the church fell upon her as she slowly sashayed up the aisle and sat down right in front the Priest. Her dress was bright green and very short, and she wore matching, shiny emerald-green shoes. The Priest and the altar boy gasped as the woman in the green dress and matching green shoes whom sat with her legs spread slightly apart, but just enough to realize she wasn’t wearing any panties. The Priest whispered out the side of his mouth to the altar boy, “Would that be Pussie Green then?” The altar boy replied with all honesty, “Father, I believe that’s just the reflection off her shoes!”

NCOM BIKER NEWSBYTES Compiled & Edited by Bill Bish, National Coalition of Motorcyclists (NCOM)

ARE GAS-POWERED VEHICLES ENDANGERED? More than three years after President Trump pulled the U.S. out of the Paris climate agreement, we’re back in. On Biden’s first day in office on January 20th, one of his first priorities was to sign an executive order to re-enter the global pact to slow climate change. Rejoining the accord was simple; the next step gets harder: How can the world’s secondlargest polluter shrink emissions 45-50% by the end of this decade to comply with the deal? One of Joe Biden’s campaign promises was to “Transition away from oil” and create a “carbon pollution-free power sector” by 2035, as part of a $2 trillion investment to build back the economy by investing in green infrastructure. The Paris Agreement does not prescribe exact methods for eliminating emissions behind global warming, but establishes binding targets for avoiding worrisome temperature thresholds. Research conducted by the German Aerospace Centre, says that passenger car engines as we know it need to be completely phased out from new sales before the end of the next decade in order for Europe to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, the most ambitious part of the Paris pact’s “well below 2 degrees Celsius” overall aim. More than 14 countries and over 20 cities around the world have proposed banning the sale of fossil fuel vehicles at some time in the near future. GM SETS 2035 TARGET TO PHASE OUT GAS-, DIESEL-POWERED VEHICLES GLOBALLY General Motors has set a 2035 target date for phasing out gasoline and diesel powered vehicles from its showrooms globally, among the first major auto makers to put a timeline on transitioning to a fully electric lineup. One of the world’s largest automakers, GM wants to end sales of combustion engine vehicles by 2035 as part of a broader pledge to become carbon neutral by 2040. Other car companies committed to the climate pledge include BMW, Ford, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen and Volvo. DOUBLE-DIGIT MOTORCYCLE SALES INCREASE DURING WORST YEAR THIS CENTURY In spite of the economic and health uncertainty posed by the Coronavirus pandemic for the bulk of 2020, the powersports sector experienced an 18.4% increase in sales for the year. The double-digit growth was owed largely to a big bump in off-highway bikes and ATVs, which jumped 46.5% & 33.8% respectively, but newmodel motorcycle and scooter sales were also up 11.4% over 2019, according to the Motorcycle Industry Council Retail Sales Report. “Overall, the industry had a good year under difficult circumstances,” noted Erik Pritchard, president and CEO of the Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC), stating; “The COVID-19 pandemic forced all of us to be nimble and to make the changes we needed to survive. In the end, many in the industry saw strong growth, and now our opportunity is to keep all of these new riders riding and to inspire even more people to join us on two, three, and four wheels.” This positive turn after years of dwindling sales figures, with the

industry as a whole reaching in every possible direction to inspire a new generation of dedicated riders, is quite encouraging, and hopefully the trend will continue into the future. ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLE BUYERS GET A U.S. TAX CREDIT THROUGH 2021 If you’re thinking about buying a new electric motorcycle this year, and you live in the USA, here’s some good news: the federal tax credit that went into effect for new electric bike models at the end of 2019 has been extended until January 1, 2022. Any electric motorcycle that can go at least 45 mph is eligible for a 10% tax credit, up to $2,500. Electric motorcycle owners new and old should also know that, at the same time that electric motorcycle credit got extended, the 30% EV charger installation credit was re-upped by the federal government as well. For 2021, you’re eligible for a credit up to $1,000 for home installations and up to $30,000 for business installations on new EV chargers. “The electric motorcycle industry is rapidly responding to our country’s need for affordable and environmentally responsible transportation,” said Zero Motorcycles’ CEO Sam Paschel, adding that “These tax credits represent an investment in a cleaner energy future, and also effectively create jobs in the ever-growing electric vehicle industry.” Details are still being hammered out, but other concurrent federal government plans include additional federal tax incentives to get everyday people to switch from gas to EV, though it’s unknown at this time how those will specifically affect the electric motorcycle industry. VR COULD ALLOW CONSUMERS TO ‘RIDE’ MOTORCYCLE PROTOTYPES It seems virtually unreal, but Virtual Reality is starting to fulfill futuristic promises, and it’s even forged a place in the real-world development of motorcycles. VR has long straddled the line between sci-fi and sci-fact, with crazy promises made in movies from ‘Tron’ to ‘The Matrix’, but the tech is coming of age and moving from the living room to Yamaha’s boardroom. Far from VR computer gaming, Yamaha VR opens new doors to improve product development, and possibly expanding consumer marketing. Masayuki Miki, a member of the joint research team in the Fundamental Technology Research Division at Yamaha’s Technical R&D Centre, explained to Cycle World, "Yamaha has been using riding simulators built around actual motorcycles for some time.” "Since VR allows us to ‘ride’ a wide range of products on all kinds of road environments we’ve created, our simulators and VR equipment play an important role in our research into rider–machine dynamics. It also goes toward achieving our Jin-Ki Kanno development ideal [which is about bikes providing fulfillment as well as transport]." Miki went on to explain that VR means a far bigger group of people (perhaps even customers) will be able to ‘ride’ prototypes, saying: "If this project leads to a substantive solution, it’ll be possible to have riders with different techniques and perceptions participate in tests." FIRE GUTS LACONIA MOTORCYCLE WEEK HEADQUARTERS A catastrophic Christmas Day fire tore through the offices of the Laconia Motorcycle Week Association, destroying decades-old memorabilia and rally archives detailing the history of the nearly 100-year-old event, often referred to as the Oldest National Motorcycle Rally with roots dating back to 1916 when a Gypsy Tour gathered for several days at

Weirs Beach on the southern shores of Lake Winnipesaukee. “It was absolutely terrible,” executive director Charlie St. Clair told Ridin’ On. “We lost almost everything. We lost all of our memorabilia. Photos and archives from more than 50 years.” All Motorcycle Weekrelated stuff “is pretty much all gone” including their entire inventory of just-arrived 100th anniversary T-Shirts and promotional apparel. “It was literally a museum in itself,” said St. Clair, much of it irreplaceable, estimating the total loss will be in the “hundreds of thousands” of dollars. In calling for help from the public, in terms of rebuilding and gathering new Laconia Motorcycle Week artifacts and collectibles, St. Clair said they would welcome donations of such items and reports a GoFundMe page was also launched by Friends of Laconia Motorcycle Week at (www.gofundme.com/f/we-love-laconia-motorcycle-week). Laconia Motorcycle Week will mark 98 years in 2021, and while “staging the upcoming event is not going to be easy,” the show will go on…. June 12-20, 2021.

BILL COMMEMORATES ROUTE 66 CENTENNIAL Federal legislation was signed into law on December 23, 2020 to establish a commission to recommend ways to commemorate Route 66’s upcoming 100th anniversary. The first all-paved U.S. highway was completed in 1926 and ran from Chicago to Los Angeles. The new 15-person commission is to include representatives from the states through which the highway ran: Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California.

DAYTONA BIKE WEEK IS A 'GO'! By a 6-1 vote on January 20, the Daytona Beach city commission endorsed plans for the 80th annual bike rally, scheduled for March 5-14. Daytona Bike Week’s organizers feared they might have to pull the plug on the 2021 rally, due to a resurgence of the COVID-19 pandemic, but the event is a huge economic driver for the region, and with this year being the 80th anniversary, businesses were especially looking forward to the needed financial boost. Masks, hand sanitizer stations, temperature checks, signs and social distancing come with the commission’s new rules, and most bars, restaurants and other businesses will be required to limit occupancy to 60%, but otherwise Daytona Bike Week is a “GO!”

Now, the unfortunate global disaster caused a massive shutdown of nearly all schools, giving kids a lot of idle time as laborers were left jobless and without a stable income to support their families. So, students have begun dropping out of school and instead are getting into the motorcycle taxi business. As it turns out, kids would rather spend their time outside working, and ferrying food deliveries or people from point A to point B, rather than stay at home taking online classes. Idleness paired with affordable Chinese motorcycles has lured kids as young as fifteen to buy their own bikes as an investment to earn a living. Naturally, the key to a developing region is education, and an uneducated future population poses a severe challenge to an already struggling economy, but at this point in time it appears there's simply nothing else the African youth can do to sustain themselves and their families until schools reopen and more employment opportunities pop up in the region.

AMERICADE POSTPONED DUE TO CORONAVIRUS This year’s Americade Motorcycle Touring Rally, typically held in June in Lake George, N.Y. each year since 1983, has been rescheduled to Sept. 21-25 due to Coronavirus concerns. Last year’s Americade was first postponed to July before being canceled altogether because of the global pandemic. MARCH 2021

MOTORCYCLE TAXI INDUSTRY CAUSING KIDS IN AFRICA TO QUIT SCHOOL Difficult times have forced African youngsters to put their studies aside in favor of making a living driving motorcycle taxis. Many people rely on motorcycle taxis to go about their daily lives, and this unconventional means of public transportation fuels the livelihood of many individuals in developing countries like Asia and Africa, with lots of people making a living solely from ferrying people around aboard their motorcycles.
