appy Birthday America and welcome Summer! Celebrating the Fourth of July is one of the best parts about summer. You get to barbecue with your family, watch fireworks, go to a parade—take part in all the fun summer activities. But another reason why July 4th is so special is because it’s Independence Day, a holiday celebrating the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It’s about celebrating the values that the country was founded upon. It is also a time to remember and honor those first Americans who made sacrifices to create the Republic and then defend it over the years. So have all the fun you want this Independence Day, and show your patriotism by celebrating and watching fireworks and be sure to Thank a Vet! We attended for the 7th year in a row, the Smoky Mountain Thunder Memorial Ride. It was the 21st year and it was so incredible, they broke the attendance record this year and it was a great memorial for those who paid the ultimate price for our freedoms. If you have the chance to attend this event next year, I would suggest that you not miss it, we won’t, it’s a site to see if you’ve never been! Look for the article in this issue for all the details from this year’s event and make plans now to be there next year. The promoters, Ron and Sandy Giddis have already started on next year’s theme and getting the ball rolling, so stay tuned to their Facebook page and website for details for the 2022 ride. Some of you may know that Scott’s 82 year old mom fell and broke her neck last November and spent weeks in the hospital, then weeks in physical therapy. As if that wasn’t enough, she broke her ankle in two places in May, then two days later she had a stroke and has been in a rehab facility since being release from the hospital. So if you could, please keep her in your thoughts and prayers, and Scott too, this has been really hard on him. Thanks in advance! We would like to say how much we LOVE our job, we love and appreciate our advertisers and readers, and the magazine wouldn’t be where it is today if not for you, so THANK YOU ADVERTISERS and READERS, we appreciate you more than you’ll ever know! On this Fourth of July holiday we remember those who fought for our independence, honor our past and present heroic military members, and wish you and your loved ones a safe and happy holiday! MONTEAGLE – OPEN FOR BUSINESS
M
onteagle has been a popular narrow point to cross the Cumberland Mountains since the days of the indigenous people. Jim Oliver’s Smoke House has been a staple to the area, especially for bikers since 1960. At that time there was hardly anything on the “Top of the Rock”, until Jim Oliver opened up as a drive-in restaurant. On April 27, 2021, a devastating fire destroyed the restaurant, gift shop, and irreplaceable keepsakes and antiques, including the Louvin Brothers museum, but spared the lodgings with the exception of a few burn marks on one side. The Smoke House has responded by keeping the lodgings open and turning the party facility behind the ruins of the restaurant into the Patio Grill, serving up food and drink, starting at 10 am with live music starting at 6:30 pm on Fridays, 4:30 pm on Saturdays and closing at 10 pm, and 8pm on Sunday. Due to the
high cost of rebuilding with both labor and materials skyrocketing, they are asking for donations to be made at the Smoke House lobby or to their gofundme account. Let’s pay back the Oliver’s for being such good hosts over the years. What to do when the Smoke House is closed? There are the normal fast food restaurants of course, but try out The Mountain Goat Market, Papa Ron’s Italian, High Point Fine Dining, Up in Smoke BBQ, Mi Casa Mexican, Dixie Lee Diner or Shan Chinese Buffet. They all have high ratings on Google. We especially like the Mountain Goat and High Point. While in Monteagle, be sure to ride through the Univ. of the South campus established in 1860, to experience the magnificent architecture and setting, also visit the Natural Bridge nearby. Of course the riding through the mountains is remarkable. The following
is a popular route for riding: West out of Monteagle on US 41 to Sewanee, then south on TN 156, to South Pittsburg. Out of South Pittsburg, take US 72 West toward Scottsboro, AL. (If you would like to visit Russell Cave, after about 5 miles on US 72, make the turn off to the right on AL 75, then right on AL 98, and then left on Russell Cave Road.) Turn right on AL 117 and go through Stevenson. At the TN state line, 117 changes into TN 56. TN 56 dead ends into US 41. Turn right to go back to Monteagle. This ride is about 75 miles and about 1.5 hours, without any stops. I suggest a lunch stop and a visit to Russell Cave along the route. Ride Safe and Have Fun!! Cooper

ONGOING TRAINING I
By Scott High
f you own a firearm, you owe it to yourself and the ones you love to practice, and practice a lot. But eventually punching holes in paper targets can get stale, boring, and expensive. If that’s happened to you, there are some things you can do to make it fun again. First you can take classes, there are many classes offered all over the state that not only make you a better shooter, but they are also fun. If you have an HCP, you have had the basic class required by the state, so where do you go from there? Defensive pistol classes are a good start if you carry or even if you own a handgun. Most firearm instructors break these classes into different levels. Level 1 usually starts by going over gun safety, and covers basic marksmanship and gun handling making you both more proficient, and more comfortable shooting and handling your firearm. You will learn to how to shoot faster and more accurately, reload faster, and better understand when to reload, shoot one handed and with your weak hand only. Defensive pistol stage 2 will usually bring in more real world scenarios like recognizing and engaging multiple threats, shooting from barricades or from behind cover, turning and shooting on the move, or from awkward positions and injured. Stage 3 will sometimes bring in the element of stress, loud noises, distracting lights and people yelling or beating on things while you engage targets from different distances and positions. The same type classes are also offered for rifles and shotguns, how many times have you ever fired your weapon from your weak hand or shoulder? Usually classes like this are offered where you took your handgun carry class or at shops with ranges such as Tennessee Gun Country. It would probably be a good idea for all of us to take classes often, but you may also want to try competition. There are lots of different types of competitions from straight marksmanship competitions, to tactical, and practical competitions. There are many different organizations in each category with slightly different styles and
rules. Some practical shooting competitions can be done with carry guns and holsters and most will mimic real world situations and are designed to both make you a better shooter and help you better handle a situation where you may have to protect yourself or your loved ones. Some tactical competitions are similar but may use highly modified or “race guns” as they tend to place more emphasis on speed and accuracy. The best route is to check them all out, go watch a few matches and maybe even try a few to see which ones suits you and your equipment. Tactical 3 gun competitions are becoming very popular, in 3 gun, one shooter uses a handgun, a rifle, and a shotgun at different times and often they use all 3 on the same stage. There are cowboy shooting competitions using single action revolvers, and some even dress in period costumes. There are cowboy contests from horseback and others are like 3 gun but use single action revolvers, lever action rifles, and double barrel or early pump action shotguns. There are also long range and sniper type competitions, these use highly specialized rifles and go out to extreme ranges some well beyond 1000 yards. Long range shooting requires hours and hours of very expensive practice but to me looks incredibly fun, but some of the rifles are easily over $5,000, with optics that are almost as much, and depending on the caliber you shoot, ammunition can be close to or in some cases over $5 per round. Reloading classes are also a good idea for some. Reloading your own ammunition can make shooting a lot less expensive if you shoot enough, the equipment can be a little expensive but in the long run will easily save more than the startup cost. Reloading can be as easy or as difficult as you make it. You can buy basic equipment and reload 1 at a time using known loads, or get elaborate semi-automated reloading equipment capable of loading multiple calibers at a very high rate. Because reloading can be dangerous, taking classes is a good starting point. It can be relaxing too. There are lots of things you can do to spice up your training, but the main point is to always train. When you stop training you are going backwards.

THE MOVES OF GOD Isa. 43:18-19 “Remember not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold I will do a new thing.” In order for you to know where you’re going, you have to know where you’ve been. I have always been a history nut; therefore, I have also studied Church history, and there is a common thread running throughout all religions; they all started with a move of God, unfortunately most of them didn’t move with God but remained where they started. Matt.17:1-4 “Jesus taketh Peter, James and John up into a high mountain apart, and was transfigured before them…” This transfiguration was so wonderful that they wanted to build three churches on this high mountain, but if Christ had let them, they would have stayed on that high mountain and thus would have been the end of the gospel. Let’s take a look at “The Moves of God” in the modern-day church; 1. The Holy Spirit movement (1930-1940) 2. The Healing movement (late 1940-1950) 3. The Deliverance movement (1950-1960) 4. The Youth movement (late 1960-1970) 5. The Teaching movement (1970-1980) 6. The Charismatic movement (1980-1990) 7. The Prosperity movement (1990-2000) All these Moves of God were real and meant to impower God’s covenant people, but man soon learned how to “pimp” these Moves of God and they came to an end while leaving some remnant fruit behind. I believe the last move of God will be The End-Time Harvest of Souls,” the biggest Church revival the world has ever seen. I believe that the modern-day Church will experience the same mighty miracles that the early church experienced. I have often wondered why the modern-day church hadn’t experience the healings, the deliverances, the prosperity, or raising the dead that the early Church had. I believe that the “spirit of religion” has had over two thousand years to lead God’s people away from the Word of God and settled for religious doctrines, personal opinions, emotionalism and legalism. Today we are told to pray for the
sick, all that sounds good but if you read God’s Word, you’ll find that Jesus never told us to pray for the sick, Jesus said to heal the sick. Mark 16:18 “lay hands on the sick and they shall recover.” Luke 10:9 “And heal the sick…and say unto them the Kingdom of God is come nigh.” I would think that after the people would witness the healing of the sick, raising the dead, casting out devils, they would receive the Word of God like never before, such as in the book of Acts 4:4 “…many of them which heard the Word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand (in one day).” Until next time, keep your face in the wind and your kickstand up. To be found faithful, Pastor Ron

he Bare Bones Music Festival, partnering with Dragon City Resort, are seriously kicking off the Labor Day weekend here in East, Tennessee. It all starts at the Dragon City Resort at the junction of TN72 and US129 in Maryville, TN with music, food, activities and the registration point for the Johnathan Cummings Benefit Ride to Lazy Acres Farms in Dandridge, TN. Johnathan Cummings, a young man who suffered a brain aneurysm which led to Locked-In-Syndrome, a condition in which a person can not move or verbally communicate, is receiving on-going and extensive care. Portions of the ride and concert proceeds will go towards his care. Additionally, a portion of the proceeds will go to the Blount County Rescue Squad to assist them with response/rescue of vehicle and motorcycle accidents on The Tail of The Dragon. The benefit ride registration is at 11am, with KSU at 1pm. The route will be roughly 65 miles from Dragon City up to Lazy Acres Farms, in Dandridge, TN. Lazy Acres Farms, the venue for the Bare Bones Music Festival, is a 40 acre organically grown and hand cultivated CBD farm in Dandridge. It also has 10 acres of shade trees and open space to accommodate the main stage as well as plenty of on-site camping. If you’re looking to sample some CBD goods and check out their processes, you’re in the right place. Real Knoxville Music Founder and President, Chris Lamb, helps manage and cultivate talent for the music fest and this year they’re delivering the big guns. Chris and his team have attracted some incredible talent over the last few years and this year is no exception. None other than the AC/DC Tribute band, Big Gun will be the festivals headline band along with Madman’s Diary and many others. Tickets for the ride, admission, lunch & two free beverages (beer or soft drinks) are $60 per person. If you just want to do the ride to support the cause, tickets are $25 for driver and passengers $5 each. Yes, that means all vehicles are welcome to join. And if you’d like to skip the ride and attend the festival, tickets are $40 for a weekend pass or $25 per day. Cash and electronic pay methods taken at Dragon City registration table. Dragon City Resort CEO, Mandy Sahf, purchased the old Dragon Pit Inn earlier this year and has been working overtime to get the inn and its adjoining restaurant, The Pit Stop, ready to serve the thousands of riders that visit The Dragon annually. There are ten completely renovated and updated rooms that come fully equipped with retro style refrigerators, mini convection ovens, a full compliment of dining ware, a coffee station, new bedding, upgraded lights, mini closets for your gear and shower robes to lounge in. Yes, I said robes to lounge in! This is definitely not your Grandfathers Inn anymore. It’s the new Dragon City Resort. The restaurant is nothing short of spectacular. Traditional items with a certain flare make it more than what you’d expect. More on the Pit Stop in a future issue, but for now just know the food is as good as everything else! Once the renovations were underway, Mandy purchased an additional 115 acres for immediate future development. Dragon City will soon take shape as a year-round destination vacation spot consisting of shops, additional restaurants, a brewery, expanded lodging (Tiny Cabins), tree house rentals, canoe/kayak rentals, RV/camping sites and there’s talk of a multi-functional track and ORV-dual sport trail system to accommodate a variety of vehicles. Dragon City has already established themselves as a motorcycle and car club meet-up venue by hosting Sunsets On The Dragon (cycles and car cruise-ins) every fourth Tuesday of the month, bike and hot rod nights, as well as multiple local fundraising events for veterans and other community based organizations. And if that’s not enough to interest you, Mandy has upped the ante with two axe throwing lanes, a dart throwing lane, shuffleboard and a foosball table. And just a few steps away, you’ll find the only patch and leather shop with on-site sewing on The Dragon. Dragon City is the new, Tail of The Dragon, place to be. Make plans to support this benefit ride and music festival. Thunder Roads Tennessee will see you there! #dragoncitytn #dragoncityresort #bare_bones_music_festival www.lazyacresfarms.com www.barebonesmusicfestival.com

Dear Fellow Veterans and Patriots:
A
fter the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 the U.S. began a Pacific campaign to stop the Japanese march. The U.S. had victories at Midway Island in June of 1942 and Guadalcanal from August of 1942 thru February of 1943 in the South Pacific. The plan was to then take the Marshall Islands, the Mariana Islands and then attack against Japan. The Gilbert Islands were a part of the advance on the Marshall Islands and the first target in the Central Pacific. The first island in the Gilbert Islands to be attacked was the Island of Betio in the Tarawa atoll more commonly known today as the battle of Tarawa. This was a 76-hour battle where the U.S. Marines suffered almost as many killed in action as the U.S. suffered during the six-month Guadalcanal campaign. Captain Glen Walker of Lebanon, Tennessee, was one of those brave Marines who was killed on the island of Betio in November 1943. Remains identified at the time as Captain Walker were returned to his family and buried in 1946. The new Defense Prisoner of War/Missing in Action Accounting Agency (DPAA) was organized about 2013 and a couple of years later made the decision to disinter unidentified remains from WWII era cemeteries and use modern DNA techniques to identify those who were not able to be identified during WWII and the Korean War. Remains disinterred from the Punch Bowl Military Cemetery in 2016 have now been identified as the remains of Captain Glen Walker. He will be returned to Nashville on July 22, 2021 and transported to Lebanon, Tennessee. The remains that were misidentified 75 years ago will be exhumed from Captain Walker’s family grave and sent to the DPAA laboratory in Hawaii for proper identification and Captain Walker will finally be honored by his family and reach his final resting place on July 24, 2021 in Lebanon, Tennessee. Captain Walker will receive a large motorcycle escort from the veteran and patriotic citizen biker community from Nashville to Lebanon and again for the procession to his burial. Welcome Home Captain Walker – You Are Not Forgotten!! It is a wonderful thing that Captain Walker is coming home after the Covid lies we’ve been told by the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the mis-information from China and the destructive and tyrannical restrictions from political tyrants are becoming known and America is finally getting back to some freedom and sanity. I hope you enjoyed the Music and Motorcycle Revival at Loretta Lynn’s in May. It was great to see a ton of beautiful motorcycles and bikers having a blast and not one mask in sight. It was a huge party; the music was awesome and so was the flat track racing. If only Captain Walker had been able to be there in person to enjoy the freedom he died to protect. A couple of other things that deserve comment in the month of celebrating our Declaration of Independence. What a head spinner it is to celebrate our independence when our embarrassing pitiful President is letting his handlers do everything in their power to make
us dependent on foreign nations for our basic needs. Gas prices are steadily climbing, war is in the wind with China, Russia and the Middle East. The parts system in our nation has been crushed. I took my bike to a Harley dealer for diagnosis. They found that my fuel pump was failing. They said they would love to fix it but they can’t get a fuel pump for my bike until September at the earliest. The dealer also told me they don’t have any tires in stock!! My wife couldn’t find bananas at the local grocery today and the shelves were not well stocked. Meanwhile the federal government of Marxists has thrown open the door to illegal aliens and is flowing them all across the nation as fast as they can. More George Soros funded Marxist anarchists are running for District Attorney positions across the country with full intent of punishing those who support the constitution and a free America. Murder is the new sport on the streets of our nation and Marxist politicians are keeping police from doing anything about it. If you wanted to write a book a few years ago with a story line like what is going on today in our nation it would have been an interesting and ludicrous fiction. Today we’re living it and it gets worse by the day. If you aren’t registered to vote and standing up for freedom and our constitution you will regret it in the near future. These Marxists are slowly working up to throwing patriots in jail and the executions won’t be far behind. Marxists have done it every time they have pushed a coup and taken over a country. Just look what happened in Russia, China, North Korea, Venezuela, Laos, Vietnam……… an on and on and on. It’s ongoing and we need to stand up or we’ll be road kill. Calling all white people racists is just a part of the Marxist’s divide and conquer strategy. No mistake – YOU are in their crosshairs!!! Keep the faith. Thank a vet for the freedoms we still enjoy and support politicians who will bring back the ones we’ve lost. Fly the flag of the people and be proud you’re an American. Hug the families of those still missing because their quest for closure has not ended. Live the good life and ride for those who can’t. You can comment at bousle19@comcast.net Bulldog * My monthly column reflects my personal point of view and does not necessarily reflect the opinions of the Publishers of this magazine, but they, like me, acknowledge the sacrifices made for the privilege of Freedom of Speech, therefore, they gratefully let me rant. NCOM BIKER NEWSBYTES Compiled & Edited by Bill Bish, National Coalition of Motorcyclists (NCOM)
SYNTHETIC FUEL COULD PARDON MOTORCYCLES FROM ELECTROCUTION With governments around the world establishing firm deadlines for eliminating gasoline-powered vehicles, the technology that has driven transportation for more than a century isn’t ready to go the way of the dinosaur just yet, and combustion engines may be given renewed hope with the advent of synthetic fuels that are nearly as green as going electric. Synthetic petrol, diesel and aviation fuels are all the subject of heavyweight pilot projects and are gaining interest fast as they eliminate the CO2 emissions from transport without the need for end-users to switch to new tech, according to motorcyclenews.com. “While biofuels already offset their emissions to an extent, synthetic fuel takes a more direct approach by stripping CO2 from the air and combining it with hydrogen to create a petrol replacement,” explains MCN. “By using wind, solar or hydro-electric to generate the electricity for the electrolysis, the process is sustainable, and while engines using the fuel still emit carbon, the same amount is reabsorbed in the fuel-making process.” The idea of using electricity to create synthetic petrol and then to burn that fuel in combustion engines might seem wasteful but the benefits are also significant, reusing existing infrastructures and giving new life to billions of combustion engines rather than reducing them to scrap. With similar power density to normal petrol, synthetic fuels also mean you don’t need to lug vast batteries around. Several synthetic fuel projects are underway, including investments by Porsche and BMW, and the World Rally Championship is due to use 100% sustainable fuel as soon as next year. While many governments seem keen on switching from combustion tech to all-electric vehicles in order to achieve carbon neutrality, “synthetic fuel could mean that more than 100 years' worth of bikes have a future.” MOTORCYCLE MANUFACTURERS STRUGGLE TO DELIVER NEW BIKES Like other manufacturers struggling with supply chain breakdowns, due in large part to the COVID-19 restrictions worldwide, motorcycle makers are coping with shortages of raw materials and parts and an unreliable global transportation system to fill showroom floors. Complications from the pandemic have affected many of the logistics and production constraints, but bike firms are facing other challenges in getting motorcycles and parts to customers, including a global shortage of semiconductors, fluctuating demand, unpredictable sales and international trade tensions. Supply-chain disruptions, transportation bottlenecks and labor shortages are now pervasive throughout the motorcycle industry and many others.
COVID’s butterfly effect on trade has also left empty shipping containers stranded in some parts of the world and a shortage of them where they’re needed, pushing up shipping costs and causing further delays. One major manufacturer had complete motorcycles aboard the Ever Given, the cargo vessel that ran aground and blocked the Suez Canal shipping lanes, which was subsequently seized by the Egyptian government and remains officially impounded months later. For consumers, a combination of increasing raw materials costs, shipping difficulties and problems securing parts could lead to price increases as firms battle to meet demand. INITIAL HIGHWAY BILL CONTAINS MOTORCYCLE-FRIENDLY PROVISIONS The Investing in a New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation in America Act (INVEST in America Act; H.R. 3684), a half-trillion-dollar surface transportation reauthorization bill that sets the funding and rules for various ongoing U.S. Department of Transportation programs, specifically highways, transit and rail, has passed initial muster including pro-motorcycle provisions. On Thursday, June 10, The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee voted 38-26 along mostly party lines to approve the massive funding measure, which includes three initiatives that would benefit motorcycle riders; SEC. 3011: STOP MOTORCYCLE CHECKPOINT FUNDING, not only expands prohibitions on motorcycle-only checkpoints, but also prohibits law enforcement activities that “otherwise profile and stop motorcycle operators or motorcycle passengers using as a factor the clothing or mode of transportation of such operators or passengers.” SEC. 3013: MOTORCYCLIST ADVISORY COUNCIL, reauthorizes the MAC to “advise the Secretary, the Administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and the Administrator of the Federal Highway Administration on transportation issues of concern to motorcyclists,” including “barrier design, road design, construction, and maintenance practices, and the architecture and implementation of intelligent transportation systems technologies.” The entire 2021 highway bill will next be taken up by the House Ways and Means Committee before advancing to the full House floor. OREGON GOVERNOR VETOES LANE-SPLITTING BILL Despite resounding bipartisan support, Oregon Governor Kate Brown (D) has officially vetoed Senate Bill 574, which would have allowed motorcyclists to travel between lanes of slow-moving traffic under certain conditions. Gov. Brown sent a letter to the House and Senate on May 26 informing them of her decision to veto S.B. 574; “I have several concerns with the bill as currently drafted, particularly related to public safety and noncompliance,” Brown wrote in her veto message.
14 ThunderRoadsTennessee.com 14 ThunderRoadsTennessee.com JULY 2021
Under S.B. 574, motorcyclists would have been permitted to travel between lanes on multi-lane highways with a speed limit of at least 50 mph, but only when traffic had slowed to 10 mph or less on those roads. Motorcyclists riding between cars could travel no more than 10 mph faster than the flow of traffic. Proponents said the bill was a compromise from past attempts to legalize lane splitting in Oregon and drew a distinction between the proposal and the law in California, where riders can travel in between cars at faster speeds. Supportive motorcyclists testified in favor of the bill in droves, arguing the policy would help riders avoid being rear-ended in stopand-go traffic, and would help clear congestion. Many pointed to a study from the University of California, Berkeley, that concluded lane splitting can be safe under certain conditions. California has long allowed lane splitting, and Montana recently passed a law similar to Oregon’s failed proposal. Utah now allows riders to “filter” through traffic stopped at an intersection, while Hawaii permits motorcyclists to utilize the shoulder when traffic is congested. MOTO INDUSTRY REPORTS MOTORCYCLE SAFETY AT AN ALL-TIME LOW With industries leading the way into a newer, brighter, cleaner future for transport, a new report from Forbes released a series of studies carried out by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) demonstrating that fatality statistics have been fluxing in favor of automobiles and trending against motorcycle safety. According to the studies cited, motorcycle fatalities have increased to 21.46 fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles driven when measuring intel gathered between 2009 and 2018, meaning that motorcycle riders’ risk has been increased by 15-21% -- and equating to 22 times that of automobile drivers. By contrast, automobile fatalities are at an all-time low, with 1.11 fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles driven stated for the same
time frame. Data like this contributes to creating the Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessments (HARAs), used to determine Functional and Technical Safety Concepts, which guides design requirements for a new vehicle and in turn creates a safer product. “Per a recent 2021 report prepared for Congress,” writes Forbes, “The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has urged NHTSA to address the design of motorcycles including the following: - requiring motorcycles to meet performance standards for passenger vehicle crash warning systems; - mandating that new motorcycles manufactured for on-road use come equipped with antilock braking systems; and - developing standards for stability control systems for on-road motorcycles.” FINAL PREPARATIONS FOR NCOM CONVENTION IN DES MOINES With the 36th annual NCOM Convention in Des Moines, Iowa just weeks away, plan NOW to join with hundreds of like-minded biker’s rights activists from across the country, July 23-25, 2021 at the Holiday Inn Des Moines - Airport, located at 6111 Fleur Drive. In addition to agenda items covering legal and legislative issues of concern to all riders, from helmet laws to lane-splitting to anti-profiling, this year’s Convention will feature a presentation on “The Demise of Gas-Powered Vehicles” by the NCOM Legislative Task Force. Reserve your hotel room at (515) 287-2400, and mention NCOM for Special Room Rates. Registration fees for the NCOM Convention are $85 including the Silver Spoke Awards Banquet on Saturday night, or $50 for the Convention only. For more information, or to pre-register, call the National Coalition of Motorcyclists at (800) 525-5355 or visit www.ON-A-BIKE.com. he bike was always in my mind but when my dad got sick, that’s when I focused on it! It was something I could do to take my mind off thinking about him being so sick. It took 6 months to decide on a color! Basically I would go to the garage ever night and work on the things I could do. Some nights I would just sit and look at it till I would go to sleep beside it. Other nights I might even cry myself to sleep thinking about my dad. I know I’m a grown man but my dad being sick was too much some nights! I called my uncle Steve to help with technical parts of build. Without him it wouldn’t have been possible! In the end I lost my dad, he was my rock, and unfortunately he didn’t get to see it finished before he passed. The first show I won, I couldn’t even hardly speak when they called my name! All the emotions hit like a train! But I believe his spirit was with me and he was looking down smiling, saying look what my son built!

SMOKY MOUNTAIN THUNDER MEMORIAL RIDE XXI
THE BIGGEST ONE YET
I
t was 21 years ago, and a low rumble of thunder was heard in downtown Sevierville, TN. That noise came from a handful of bikers who had gathered to remember our fallen military who died in combat for all of us. Since then, the number of bikes and people have grown to several thousand. So when 4,019 bikes fired up for this year’s 21st Smoky Mountain Thunder Memorial Ride, it was truly a thunderous noise. 20 ThunderRoadsTennessee.com 20 ThunderRoadsTennessee.com JULY 2021
At the opening ceremony, the origin of Decoration Day, which later became Memorial Day was explained, and that the reason for the weekend has always been the same, to remember our fallen. Keynote speaker Ron Giddis also spoke about how since 9/11, they felt the need to include law enforcement, firefighters and E.M.T’s with those who protect us and serve our country. to finish, this year’s event fulfilled the mission statement of Smoky Mountain Thunder; “To reach as many people as possible with the event, and in doing so, hope to instill and renew the true meaning of Memorial Day”. This year, the laying of the wreath for the fallen at the opening ceremony was performed for the first time by the newly formed Sevierville Police Department Honor Guard, by members Michael Odam and Phillip West. After the customary closing ceremony wreath laying and 21 gun salute, and singing of patriotic songs by the incredible performers T.C. Barnette, and Kaleb Wright, and Taps, by Liz Loar, the closing ceremony was made extra special by a friend of the event who presented the organizers, Ron and Sandy Giddis, with a quilt made from the t-shirts of all 21 rides. It was presented by many of those who work with them to make it a great event each year. A free event of this size would not be possible without the many generous sponsors who support it. To the sponsors, the organizers and riders are eternally grateful. Smoky Mountain Thunder would also like to thank the different City and County Fire Departments who placed their Ladder trucks along the route flying Old Glory from the top rungs of the ladders from Sevier County all the way to Grainger County. Without Sevier County Sheriff Dept., Sevierville Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff Dept., Newport Police Dept., Cocke County Sheriff Dept., White Pine Police Dept., Morristown Police Dept., Hamblen County Sheriff Dept., Bean Station Police Dept. and Grainger County Sheriff Dept., this ride would not be possible. It’s a coordinated effort by all involved and quite a feat to cross 5 counties and all of the intersections without a hitch. Stay tuned for next year, May 29, 2022 for Smoky Mountain Thunder Memorial Ride XXII.

That moment when you find a suppository in your ear and instantly know where your hearing aid has gone. -------------------------------------------------------------If you love something, set it free. If it comes back, it’s yours’. If it doesn’t, it never was. And....if it just sits there on the sofa, watching t.v., unaware that is has been set free, then sadly you probably married it or gave birth to it. -------------------------------------------------------------A bus full of fugly (f’in ugly) people met after an accident, all of them dead. Before entering Heaven, they each were granted one wish. The first said, “Make me beautiful” and baam!, it happened. The rest followed with the exact same wish. When it came to the last person, he was laughing his ass off. A booming voice asked him, “Why are you laughing and what now will be your wish?” The very last person replied, “Make them all fugly again!” -------------------------------------------------------------Therapist: Your wife says you never buy her flowers. Is that true? Husband: To be honest, I never even knew that she sold flowers! -------------------------------------------------------------A woman with unusually small boobs buys an old mirror from an antique shop and hangs it on her bathroom door. The next morning, she playfully looks in it and says, “Mirror mirror on my door, make my boobs size 44!” There in a flash of light, her boobs grow to enormous proportions. She immediately runs down to her husband and shows him the startling results. They both go upstairs to the bathroom, and the husband crosses his fingers and says, “Mirror mirror on my door, make my penis touch the floor!” There’s a flash of light and shazam, his legs are gone and his butt, his penis and the rest of him are sitting on the floor. -------------------------------------------------------------When my husband says “let me check with my wife” What he’s really telling y’all is Hell No! He’s just putting all the heat and blame on me. I soooo know this to be pure truth.
I asked my Grandma, “What’s good for headaches” and she replied, “Stay away from the MFers who are giving them to you.” --------------------------------------------------------------Did you know that sandwiches fit in the bags you use for weed? And if you mix them both you’ll end up with a Happy Meal. --------------------------------------------------------------The first little bottle of Coca-Cola from 1894 contained apprx. 3.5 Grams of cocaine. Hello! this totally explains why our parents and grandparents could walk to and from school, uphill, both ways, in the snow, barefoot. --------------------------------------------------------------Girl and Guy in bar, both drunk. Girl points at the guy and yells, “You never listen to me. You only hear what you want to hear!!” The Guy points back at her and replies, “Well, hell yeah, sure....I’ll have another beer!!”. -------------------------------------------------------------Another guy sitting at home on his couch, wasted and totally into his “pity party” looks down at his phone and asks, “Siri, why am I so bad at relationships with women?” And the answer comes back, “This is Alexa.” --------------------------------------------------------------Have y’all ever met someone that lied for literally no reason whatsoever? Just walking around with a major case of Liabetes! --------------------------------------------------------------Ganga finally bought this pair of slick looking biker boots when they went on sale. He got home, put on his new boots and walked into the kitchen and asked his wife Joint if she noticed anything different? She looked him up and down and said “Nope.” He stomped into the bathroom and stripped down buck naked except for boots and shuffled back into the kitchen, again asking Joint if she noticed anything different? Joint said, “It’s hanging down today, it was hanging down yesterday, it’ll be hanging down tomorrow.” Ganga yelled, “And do you know why it’s hanging down? Joint calmly replied, “Nope, not a clue.” Ganga screamed, “It’s hanging down because it’s admiring my new damn boots!!!” Not missing even a second of a beat, Joint looks up at Ganga and replies, “Shoulda bought a hat man, shoulda bought a hat.”
