Highland Parker’s we have lost

181 East Buena Vista, Highland Park, Michigan 48203 Greetings Parkers; I pray that you are staying safe and healthy during this crisis. One thing for certain… The novel coronavirus/Covid19 has changed America. The question forward is what will be the lessons that America acts upon after it is done. We have lost some Polar bears during this crisis. I don’t have a comprehensive list, but I send my condolences and prayers to all of the families, friends and associates that have been touched by tragedy. Be Safe Parkers.

HIGHLAND PARKER’S IN THE FIGHT

A Message from Soulardarity

NEED RESOURCES?

Yelsma and Brenna Lane, from Highland Park, own Detroit Denim Company and have partnered with Jarret Schlaff of Pingree Detroit manufacturing and others to make face shields that seemed non-essential until now. They’re not making jeans, they’re making face shields, foe the medical community.

“We’re making about a thousand of these face shields a day so from footwear to face shields we’re really - we’re doing our very best,” said Jarret Schlaff, co-founder and CEO of Pingree Mfg. Pingree Detroit hires veterans and makes sneakers and bags, but now they’ve moved to Central United Methodist Church to make 22,000 face shields for Beaumont, Covenant Memorial Health Center, and Henry Ford Health System. COVID TEST SITE in HIGHLAND PARK Tuesday, April 28th. A group of organizations got together to do what was thought impossible. Mitch Albom and Dr.“Rosey” Rosenthal with Say Detroit, Tawana Nettles Robinson with Trinity Health, Chad Audi with Detroit Rescue Missions Ministry, Dr Barry Feldman with Michigan Healthcare Professionals, all of the medical staff and security team at the test site, and the team at D2N (Detroit 2 Nepal Foundation). Along with the newly formed Highland Park Community Crisis Coalition, Shamayim Harris with Avalon Village, Jackson Koeppel of Soulardarity, Tony Johnson from Buckets of Rain, Garret Dempsey of the Boys and Girls Club and Juan Shannon of Parker Village. The groups opened a Covid19 test site in Highland Park to break down the barriers that have kept many from getting tested at other locations. Hours of operation are Monday and Tuesday 9:30AM-4PM and Friday from 9AM-11 at Say Detroit Clinic, 211 Glendale Avenue in Highland Park.

“This is part of the personal protective equipment that our staff drastically are needing so we’re really honored to play a role in supporting our frontline healthcare workers,” Schlaff said. “This week it’s face shields, next week we’ll be making gowns and masks through ISAIC -- the Industrial Sewing and Innovation Center -- the entire sewing and making community in Detroit has really come together,” Brenna said.

What’s needed is personal protective equipment for those on the front lines. The auto industry is once again stepping up. Ford has made a million face shields. These small businesses can’t compete with that, but then again - it’s not a competition. This is about community, about the country, about protecting our healthcare workers from COVID-19. “It’s just amazing to see everyone come together. We’re making a thousand a day and you know it’s just a drop in the bucket compared to what some of the big guys are doing but we figure every little bit makes a difference,” Brenna said.
