BRIDGE HOUSE SONGLIN VILLAGE, HUBEI, CHINA
The Bridge House is located in the village of Songlin in Hubei Province, China. Songlin is the village where my father was born and raised, and returning there one day has been one of his greatest desires. As he approaches retirement designing the Bridge House has helped me connect with my father’s past, and my extended family that live in Hubei. The site chosen for the proposed house offers a ‘bridge’ between the past, the present, and the future. To the south my grandfather’s traditional farmhouse is located, to the north is where my uncle lives in a building constructed within the last ten years. The proposed site is equidistant from both relatives, and the architecture of the building appeals to both traditional ways of thinking and modern life. The site is adjacent to agricultural land and can be accessed via a path that runs alongside rice fields. A water channel passing the front of the house is a characteristic recognized as being auspicious according to the Feng Shui philosophy, which seeks to bring harmony between people and the surrounding environment. Constructed on piers, the modern looking building sits lightly on the land. Structurally laminated bamboo and hemprete walls are proposed as building materials as they are more in keeping with the rural environment, than cast concrete which has become the predominant building material in China’s rapid industrialized growth.

Location: Hubei, China
The site for Bridge House is located in Hubei, China. It ismy father’s hometown. The climate is hot in summer and cold in winter, and it is in climate zone 2. Thermal insulation property becomes important.
Constructability:
By using cyclic plastic formwork, one can build exterior wall efficiently. Using strip footing to decrease footprint and avoid moisture from ground below. The building can produce enough electricity by itself.
Sustainability:
Hempcrete is natural and healthy. Building as an exterior wall material, a 12 wall achieves R-value equals to 30 easily. Window area are designed by avoid overglazing and energy saving.
Cost:
Total cost $179,708. Base house cost: $130,000 PV system cost: $6,080 Yearly overproduction credit: $192

CHINA MOBILE BUILDING XI’AN, CHINA
This design formed integrated shape by thinking the logo of China Mobile, making the building massing insert and merge together. It’s elevation used simple but strong vertical lines to form scientific and technological sense. The design of the wing building brought with green and lively atrium. The whole building emphasized modernity, simplicity, ecology and technology, thus build the icon of corporate. In the design process, I focused on diagram analysis, explored different proposals and built the final building computer model. It really helped me understand the process of building design and make me one member of the group to contribute to this project.
