We have the rare opportunity to design a truly urban stadium integrated within the urban fabric. The site, being so close to the city center, bounded by a typical urban block, and with crucial access to public transit does not necessitate the usual “object in a sea parking” that defines the typology today. Instead, it poses a new queustion:

FITNESS

“what does it mean to design a competition pool facility in a truly urban site in a way that continues and enhances the urban experience?” We answer this by asking what it is that defines the urban experience. To us, that means a dense and continually active environment. Therefore, we believe that a building that is truly integrated within the urban fabric only if it is active at all times of the year. This becomes problamatic for a competition stadium facility such as this because it is only active at very select times of the year. Thus, we ask how we can change this and introduce a healthy urban experience.

Brace Layout 1

The main consideration for long span is to act together with facade so they form one unity. Most part would be hidden behind the wrap around parts while some would show its structure texture together with the facade. It is efficient to span the short direction, the transverse dimension is about 180 ft, it is important to form one uniform space so there is no barrier between spector seating area and pool area.

Also, the structure should provide indirect sunlight to avoid glare and heat.
