Herewegoagain!It’sthefirstofthenewyear andweareanxioustogetonwithourNew Year’sresolutions.Numberoneonthelistis generallytoloseweight.Itseemseveryone thinkstheonlyanswertolosingweightistoeat less,eathealthierandexercise.However,there ismoretoitthanthat.Resolvingitmeansbeing healthyallyearlong.Buthow?

Firstofall,weprettymuchknowifweweigh toomuch,orarealittlepuffierinthebellythan weknowweshouldbe.

Sometimesit’stheoppositeandwehavea distortedviewofwhatahealthybodyshouldbe. Forinstance,awomanwhohashadkids shouldn’texpecttolookthesameafterwards. Herbonystructureisdifferent,andherskinhas stretchedout.However,manywomenlook amazingafterchildbirth.Weshouldn’texpectto reachourhighschoolweightwheninour50’sor 60’sorolder–wewouldlookmalnourished.So howdoweknowwhatishealthy?

The“world”considersaweightofgreaterthan 20%of“ideal”tobeover-weight.Buthereis whereitvaries.Fromoneorganizationto another“ideal”canbedifferentweights altogether.AssessingBMI(bodymassindex)is certainlyamoreaccuratewaytodeterminethat becausetheyaremeasuringfatvs.musclemass. Buteventhatcandiffer.Anothermethodof measurementcanbewaistcircumference.Then welookatartfromcenturiesago,andalittlefat onthehipsandwaistwasconsidered“healthy”. Whereyouholdyourweightcanbediagnostic.
