Selinahadnosuperpowers,relyingonher physicalandintellectualgiftstopulloffher variouscrimes.Shewasanaccomplished acrobat,amartialartsexpert,boxer,and street-fighter.ThecleverCatwomanwasa masterofdisguise,andabletosneakupon groupsofpeoplewithease.ActressLee MeriwetherwasthefirsttotakeCatwoman tothebigscreeninthefirst“Batman”filmin 1966.However,JulieNewmarwas Catwomaninthe1966-1967television series,withEarthaKitttakingovertherole forthefinalseasonwhenNewmarexitedthe show.MichellePfeifferstarredintherolein 1992’s“BatmanReturns,”followedby HalleBerryin“Catwoman”(2004),Anne Hathawayin2012’s“TheDarkKnight Rises,”andZoeKravitzin“TheBatman”in 2022.Inthecomicbooks,Catwomanleaves herlifeofcrimetohelpoutBatmanin1951 and1952,butwasbacktoburglaryin1954 issues.SheisrankedNumber11onthe“Top 100ComicBookVillainsofAllTime

•RobertLouisStevenson’s1886literary work“TheStrangeCaseofDr.Jekylland Mr.Hyde”toldthestoryofLondonscientist Dr.HenryJekyll,whobattledhisdarkside, unsuccessfullyrepressingtheevilurgesof hiswickedpersonality.Dr.Jekyllcreateda potionthatwouldreleasetheevilina person,whichwouldtakeoverthebodyand soul.Aftercommittingactsofevil,the personcoulddrinkthepotionandbe changedbackintohisoriginalself.Dr. Jekylltransformedintoayounger,smaller, crueler,violentperson,EdwardHyde,who committedseveralcrimes,includingthe murderofamemberofParliamentwithno remorsewhatsoever.Jekyllbecameso obsessedwithhisdarksidethatafteratime hewasnolongerabletocontroltheprocess ofreturningtohisoriginalself,eventually becominghisevilcounterpartofMr.Hyde permanently.Stevenson’snovellaimpacted ourlanguage,withthephrase“Jekylland Hyde”comingtorefertopersonswithadual nature–goodontheoutside,butsometimes dreadfullyevil.

•Thevillaininthe1964film“Goldfinger” wasAuricGoldfinger,awealthysmuggling magnateobsessedwithgoldandplannedto detonateabombintheU.S.Bullion DepositoryatFortKnox.“Goldfinger”was thethirdmovieintheJamesBondseries, withSeanConneryintheroleofthefamous MI6agent,amoviebasedonIanFleming’s seventhBondnovel,publishedin1959. Flemingderivedthenamefromanarchitect namedErnoGoldfingerwhohaddesigned Fleming’sHampstead,Englandhome.The roleofGoldfingerwasplayedbyGerman actorGertFrobe.Frobespokeverylittle English;consequently,hislineswere dubbedbyBritishtelevisionactorMichael Collins.Frobewasoriginallyaviolinistwho gaveitupfortheaterwork.Inhislateryears, hehadrolesinMercedesBenzcommercials.

•L.FrankBaum’s1900children’snovel“The WonderfulWizardofOz”describesthe castleoftheWickedWitchoftheWestasa beautifulyellowcastle,withlonghallways carpetedinyellowvelvetandwindows coveredinyellowsilk.That’sfarfromthe creepyfortressdepictedintheclassic1939 film,homeoftheflyingmonkeys.Inthe book,theWitchisanoldhagwiththree pigtailsandaneyepatch,whilethefilm featuredafrighteningwitchwithgreenskin. MANAGINGHOLIDAY STRESSAND HYPERTENSION

Let’sfaceit–formostpeople,thishasbeena toughyear.Now,totopthatoff,we’recomingup onthemoststressfultimeofyear.Withstress,for thosesusceptible,highbloodpressuregoesalong withitall.

Whenastressfuleventhappens,thebodygoesinto “fightorflightmode”.Hormonesarereleasedto helpthepersonwitheitherincreasedstrengthto fight,orendurancetorun.It’sasurvival mechanism,andanawesomeoneatthat.Unlike theoccasionalbigstressfulevent,wehave multiplesmallerevents,chronically. Nooneisimmunetostress.Howwerespondto stressandwhatkeepsyourbloodpressuredownis whatmatters.

Whenstressed,thehormonesadrenalineand cortisolgetreleased,activatingthefightorflight response–theheartbeatsfasterandtheblood vesselsconstrictinordertogetmoreblood moving.Thisincreasesbloodpressure.That’s okayonanoccasionalbasis,butwhenthat happenschronically,wemayhaveaproblem.

Althoughstudieshaven’tascertainedforsureif chronicstresscauseshypertension,theassociated actionsinresponsetostressmay.

Oneofthoseisourdiet.Whenstressed,weneed extranutrientssowehavethematerialsthebody needstomanagethestressresponse.Insteadof eatingbetter,morenutrient-densefoods,when stressed,manypeoplegoforthejunkfoods. Stressedpeopletendtoeatmoresugarandcarbs,

morefastfoods,morecoffee,alcohol,energy drinksandanythingto“justgetthroughit”.This could,overtime,leadtohypertension.

Stressedpeopletendtosleepless,stayinguplate tryingtogetthingsdone.Lesssleepreducesyour abilitytocopewithstress,makingitworse.In addition,itwasfoundthatpeoplewhotakelonger than14minutestofallasleephavea300%greater chanceofhavinghypertension.So,gettobed early,andifyouhaveinsomnia,consider acupuncturetostraightenyouout.

Hypertensionisalsoworsethistimeofyeardueto thestressfuleffectofcoldontheheart.Coldcauses vascularconstriction,increasingbloodpressure. Sodresswarm.VitaminDdeficiency,common thistimeofyear,mayalsocontributeto hypertension.VitaminDisknownforitspositive effectonmood–especiallyanxietyand depression,morecommonthistimeofyear.
