We can’t always offer logical explanations for extraordinary things that happen on land or sea. Consider the follow true incidents: • In 1958, Chief Officer Francis Schremp was on the freighter S.S. John Lykes off the coast of Bermuda when he was washed overboard by a huge wave. The next wave deposited him back on the deck. • The same thing happened to John Craig of Scotland in 1956. When he was placed back on board, he called out to the skipper who was out in a lifeboat looking for him. • In 1908, James Wilkinson was on the U.S.S. Minnesota, which was being followed by the battleship U.S.S. Vermont. In heavy seas during a typhoon, Wilkinson was swept off the ship by a huge wave. Tossed about in the ocean, he struggled to get back to his boat. Then a huge wave hurled him upwards and he felt something solid and smooth below him. Hands were gripping him and pulling him from the water. The waves that swept him from the Minnesota had deposited him on the Vermont. • During World War II, the U.S.S. Uruguay was carrying 5,000 soldiers to Europe. Sergeant Cecil Davis was seasick, so he reported to sickbay and was installed in a bunk. A sudden storm arose, tossing the ship. turn the page for more!

• During World War II, U.S. draft-dodgers escaped to Canada and Canadian draft-dodgers escaped to the U.S. Authorities hired to track them down had trouble telling Canadians from Americans. But there was one small difference. In America, children are taught the alphabet with the final letter Z pronounced ‘zee’; but Canadians learn it as ‘zed’. When suspected draft dodgers were asked to recite the alphabet, the last letter would clearly tell their nationality. The same technique was used to identify draft dodgers during the Viet Nam war. • In the 1200s the French occupied the island of Sicily. Their controversial governing methods caused the Sicilians to revolt many years later, and the French were massacred. However, many of the French had learned the local Italian language well enough that it was hard to tell them from the natives just from their accents. The Sicilians asked all questionable people to pronounce “cicero ceci”, which means ‘chickpeas from cicero’. In Italian, the phrase is prounounced with four “ch” sounds in rapid succession. However, in the French language, the “ch” sound had been replaced by the “sh” sound. If it was said as “cheechero chechee” the person walked away, but those that said “sheeshero sheshee” were imprisoned. • When MacArthur was in the Philippines during World War II, Japanese spies would pose as Chinese or Filipino citizens in order to penetrate the defenses. Suspected spies would be asked to pronounce the word ‘hula-hula’. Chinese and Filipinos have no trouble pronouncing the ‘l’, but Japanese do not have the ‘l’ sound in their language and would therefore pronounce it ‘hura-hura’, thereby betraying their nationality. • In the Bible in the Book of Judges, the Gileadites are at war with the Ephraimites. The Ephraimites looked the same and spoke the same language, so when the Gileadites had them trapped, it was hard to tell friend from foe. A Gileadite leader had every person pronounce the word for an ear of corn, which was pronounced ‘shibboleth’ by

the Gileadites, but ‘sibboleth’ by the Ephraimites. Those who pronounced the word wrong were put to death. • In the 1800s the Turks and Egyptians were at war. The Egyptians invaded the Turk’s province of Syria, where many Egyptians were captured. The Turks did not want to kill any of their Syrian fellowmen, even if they were wearing the Egyptian uniform. Of course, all of the prisoners claimed to be a Syrian. Both Syrians and Egyptians speak Arabic. This time the password was ‘gamal’ meaning camel. The Syrians say ‘jamal’ and the Egyptians say ‘gamal’. Only those who pronounced it correctly lived. • In 1851, during Napoleon III’s coup d’etat, an aide reported to Count de St. Arnaud that a mob had gathered outside. The Count, who had been troubled with a cold, replied, “Ma sacrée toux!” meaning, “my damned cough!” The aide thought he said, “Massacrez tous”, which means “massacre all”. The phrases sound identical in French. The order to fire was given and hundreds lost their lives. • In World War II, when Truman, Churchill and Stalin called for the Japanese to surrender, they responded with the word “mokusatsu” which meant they were reserving comment: “We’re thinking it over.” However, an inaccurate translator thought that ‘’mokusatsu’’ meant they were ignoring it. On July 28, the Allies decided to drop the bomb on Hiroshima as a result. ■

How Can Nutrition Affect My Hormones? Lack of energy, hot flashes, difficulty sleeping, depression, trouble losing weight, waking up in the middle of the night between 2 AM and 4 AM, a racing mind, lack of focus and concentration… these could all be symptoms of hormonal imbalance that can be adequately supported with the power of nutrition. As a culture we are becoming hormonally exhausted earlier than ever, and only replenishing hormones is often just a bandage. There is a deeper structure of support the body needs to “hold the hormones in place,” and allow the body to work more efficiently on its own. This is often addressed through the power of nutrition and lifestyle activities such as relaxation techniques. Nutritional soundness includes all the vitamins, minerals and antioxidants our bodies need for proper activities to happen, such as communication of hormones. These nutrients come from the diets we eat and supplements we take. An example of this would be someone with low thyroid. Sure we can add a thyroid hormone, but what if they are low in iodine, selenium, and zinc, all important nutrients for thyroid creation and activity? There are also the natural supplements, which support certain body and hormonal systems, as well as help us to find a natural balance to allow our hormonal system to work more efficiently. This is something that I see all the time, and it all relates to stress. In the future I will speak more on this because it’s very important. The thing we need to realize is the power of one’s adrenal glands, the roles they play, and how little attention they are given in our overall health.
Do you have a question for the Pharmacist?
Cortisol is a common marker of adrenal activity. When we undergo stress, our body releases more and more cortisol to help deal with the stress; to keep us alert, with adequate energy to respond. The problem is that over time, our adrenal hormones become exhausted. Along the way, the body does its best to keep adequate cortisol levels to the point it will steal from other hormones like progesterone since they all are made of similar material. For a woman who is still cycling, her progesterone levels begin to rise around mid month of cycle. Progesterone stays high till the end of the month then suddenly drops to trigger the next cycle. If cortisol is stealing from progesterone the woman might experience symptoms such as irregular cycles, PMS, problems with endometriosis and estrogen dominance, thyroid problems and even infertility. The reason for the low progesterone, the stress, can be easily balanced with the right nutrition and lifestyle guidance. Here’s another example. Naturally, cortisol levels should be higher in the morning and gradually decline as the day goes on, allowing us to fall into a silent, uninterrupted sleep. People often experience rising cortisol levels or cortisol spikes at nighttime. This results in waking up in the middle of the night for no apparent reason and eventually staying awake due to a mind that won’t slow down. There is a lot that can be done with the right supplementation and the right questions. If any of this sounds remotely familiar, contact our pharmacy; let’s see how we can help. (248) 663-3390.
What is a home health agency? Answer: Home Health Agencies can come in many different shapes and sizes. There are certified agencies (like Interim) that have a specific set of guidelines they must follow and are governed by CMS (The Federal Government), and or by an accrediting body (CHAP, ACHC, JHACO, or by their State). Michigan is a non licensed state meaning that there is no license necessary to open and run a home health agency. There are also non certified agencies that provide care on a non certified basis (Not certified through the government or an accrediting body). These agencies are usually smaller and often only provide non skilled (No Nursing or Therapy) services. Do you have a question that you would like to have answered? Email Editor@TidbitsMI.com.

A recent study in the magazine “Atherosclerosis” indicated that a certain bacteria seen in severe forms of gum disease is associated with a higher risk of heart problems. There is nothing wrong with being cautious, and a simple test of your saliva can rule out the presence of this type of bacteria. For more information on this test, contact our office. PRENUPTUAL Q & A's Q: What is a prenuptial agreement?
A: A prenuptial agreement is a contract entered into BEFORE marriage. A prenuptial agreement establishes what will happen to you and your spouse’s income and assets in case of death, divorce or separation. Most importantly, prenuptial agreements preserve the nature of each spouse’s property in the event the marriage ends. In other words, separate property will remain separate and will not be reclassified as community property or be subject to equitable distribution should the marriage end.

X-Ray Danger?
Dear Dr. Abdal: How safe are dental X-rays? -- Christina J., Farmington Hills, MI
Answer: The dose of radiation you are exposed to during the taking of X-rays is extremely small. Advances in dentistry over the years have lead to the low radiation levels emitted by today’s X-rays. In addition, the use of leadlined, full-body aprons protects the body from stray radiation. Some of the improvements are new digital X-ray machines that limit the radiation beam to the small area being X-rayed and the use of film holders that keep the film in

Any exposure to any sources of radiation that including the sun, minerals in the soil, appliances in your home, and dental X-rays can damage the body’s tissues and cells and can lead to the development of cancer in some instances. Fortunately advances in dentistry over the years have lead to the low radiation levels emitted by today’s X-rays. Find a dentist that has digital x-rays as it reduces radiation by 50%.

Life Is Still Good Without an Appendix By Paul G. Donohue, M.D.
Dear Dr. Donohue: My 13-year-old son went to camp for five days. On day three, he had terrific stomach pain and started to vomit. The instructors were alarmed and took him to the local hospital, where doctors diagnosed appendicitis. We had to give phone permission for him to have an operation. Everything went fine, and he recovered quickly. My wife and I have a few questions. Could he have eaten something that caused appendicitis? What does not having an appendix do to people? No one in my wife’s or my family has had such an operation. We’re ignorant about all this. --G.G. Answer: The appendix dangles from the first part of the colon in the lower-right side of the abdomen. It looks like a slender worm, and has an average length of 3 inches (8 cm). The function of the appendix isn’t clearly defined, but it might have a role in body immunity. Life without an appendix goes on as normally as life with one. The appendix has a hollow core, which is lined with lymphoid tissue, the same kind of tissue found in lymph nodes. Bacteria from the colon can invade the hollow core and cause the lymph tissue to swell. Swelling cuts off blood supply, and the appendix begins to disintegrate -- appendicitis. Undigested food or hard fecal material also can block the appendix’s core and lead to the same situation. Nothing your son ate is likely the cause. All the other campers ate the same food, but he was the only one to develop this problem. The pain of appendicitis most often starts in the area of the navel (bellybutton) and works its way toward the lower-right corner of the abdomen. Temperature rises. Vomiting is common, and sometimes diarrhea is part of the picture. A doctor, by what he or she hears from the patient, along with the examination
of the abdomen, usually can make the diagnosis. In confusing circumstances, an ultrasound is most helpful. Millions of people worldwide live without an appendix. They do quite well. So will your son. Dear Dr. Donohue: Can hand sanitizer kill all harmful bacteria? -- D.D. Answer: By “hand sanitizer,” do you mean waterless hand cleaners? Most of them incorporate ethyl alcohol or isopropyl alcohol. They kill many bacteria, but not all harmful ones. Nothing short of sterilization does that. Frequent hand-washing with soap and water for 20 seconds is an effective way of eliminating many germs, including cold and flu viruses. You don’t have to use soap that has antibacterial agents in it. The water doesn’t have to be hot; cool water is fine. Dry your hands with a paper, disposable towel, and turn off the faucets in a public restroom with a paper towel. Dear Dr. Donohue: When is the better time to take medicines: a.m. or p.m.? Is it better to take them with water or juice? I have been told conflicting answers. -- S.R. Answer: If the prescribing doctor or the pharmacist hasn’t specified a particular time, you can take medicine when it’s most convenient for you. You’ll never go wrong taking medicine with water. Dr. Donohue regrets that he is unable to answer individual letters, but he will incorporate them in his column whenever possible. 5 SIMPLE STEPS TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS 1. Write down your goals. We hear about people setting goals all the time but how many of us have written goals. Most people talk about goals or the things they want to accomplish but few people actually write them down. By writing our goals down gives us more clarity and a stronger sense of commitment. “If it’s worth doing it’s worth writing down”. 2. Make your goals believable and measurable. Goals should not be feelings or impossible thoughts or wants, but something we can measure and quantify. Knowing we can achieve our goals through some discipline, consistency, and hard work. Our goals should stretch us but not be in the realm of impossibility. Also if you cannot measure or quantify your goal there is no real way of knowing when you accomplish your goal(s). 3. Goals should have completion dates. If there are no completion dates attached to our goals there is a tendency to procrastinate and push our goals into the future. Isn’t it true that when someone gives us a deadline we tend to accomplish more? Put a completion date on each of your goals to minimize procrastination and assure greater success. 4. Speak and write as if your goals have already been accomplished. Avoid words and phrases like: I will; I want; I try. These phrases and words create loopholes and do not force us to commit. We don’t want to will, want, or try….we DO! We speak and write as if there is no way we cannot succeed. Ask any athlete how they think before going into competition; they are always confident and committed to their success. 5. Finally, read your goals daily (visual), say your goals out loud daily (auditory), and rewrite your goals weekly (kinesthetic). These tasks help solidify your goals by engaging all of your senses. This is a very important step in helping with your success. Goals should not be overly wordy, but should be sharp, tight, and to the point. Make 2013 a great year for yourself by creating a roadmap for success….well written and stated GOALS! Kirk Vickers, owner of Triad Health & Fitness 24168 Haggerty Rd. The Right Way to Greet a Dog By Sam Mazzotta
Dear Paw's Corner: I met my neighbor coming up the walk with her dog this morning. When I reached out to pet “Sassy,” she growled and nipped at me. My neighbor apologized and explained that Sassy cannot see well. I’m not sure that’s a good enough answer. She should have better trained her dog to respond in a friendly way to people. Don’t you agree? -- Stung in San Antonio Dear Grossed Out: No, I don’t agree. Dogs with vision or hearing problems can be startled easily, and often react instinctively with a warning growl and even a nip. Even if you know a dog well, when you meet, always greet the owner first, keeping your hands in a relaxed position by your side. If you want to pet the dog, ask the owner if it’s OK to do so. If the owner tells you to go ahead, call the dog’s name first to get its attention, then slowly present the back of your hand and let the dog sniff it. If the dog stays calm, gently scratch along its jawline and behind the ears. Don’t pat the dog on the top of the head, which can be seen as threatening. Owners should keep their dogs leashed at all times during walks. If someone asks to pet your dog, you can say no -- you don’t have to explain why. There’s a growing movement to attach yellow ribbons to a dog’s leash to indicate to others that a dog needs space. YellowDog, which started in Sweden, now has a U.S. branch. You can find YellowDogUSA on Facebook. Another good resource is DINOS (Dogs In Need of Space), which gives more details on what kinds of dogs need a wide berth, how to approach dogs and so on.

Ask Your Auto Insurance Expert INSURANCE NEEDS?
Q: What are the most common coverages that you wish you had when a claim occurs? A: Car rental - For a very minimal monthly charge, you can have coverage that allows you to have a rental car in place of your own if you have a collision and your vehicle is in the shop. The insurance pays for the vehicle for a specific period of time so that you have transportation while your vehicle is being repaired. Broad Collision - If you have a collision you only pay your deductible when you are AT-FAULT! No need to come out of pocket if someone hits your car! A LOWER comprehensive deductible (sometimes called “Other than collision”) - If you have a windshield that needs replacing or repair, a $250 or $500 deductible is too high! For a minimal difference, carry a $50 comprehensive deductible as glass claims far outweigh any other type. You should be reviewing your coverages with you agency representative at least once a year to make sure you are properly covered!

WINTERIZATION
Rich Jeleniewski
Dear Varsity Lincoln: What is your advice on how I can prepare my car for winter weather? - Sevario S, Dexter, MI
Answer: Make sure your vehicle battery weathers the winter cold. Drive your vehicle up to Northern Michigan for a ski weekend and you may get a rude surprise if you park outside overnight. When you turn the key, the only sound you may hear is a “click click” indicating a nearly dead battery. Cold weather marks the beginning of “jump start” season as vehicle batteries struggle to start frigid engines. “Emergency starts are one of the top reasons for the emergency assistance,” said Jennifer Mack at the American Automobile Association. Mack suggested letting a trained tech handle the problem because issues like a frozen battery, cracked battery case and low electrolytes can lead to injury or even explosion. Once the vehicle is running, be aware that it can take hours to fully recharge, especially in winter. Today’s feature-laden vehicles draw heavily on the battery and can leave it almost entirely depleted. A slow or trickle-charge may be the answer for a severely depleted battery. Portable charging units and a reliable set of cables can help get your vehicle juiced up again. Consider the following tips for keeping your battery operating in peak condition this winter: • Inspect your battery for corrosion, which resembles a whitish material growing around the terminals. Alert your service advisor since corrosion can permanently damage your battery and must be removed with caution. • Check for anticorrosion paste on the terminals. The gooey substance also helps improve the cable connection. • Look for loose cables that prevent your vehicle’s battery from charging properly. Over tightening or under tightening terminal connectors can damage a battery. • Confirm whether your vehicle’s battery has a removable vent cap. If so, fluid levels need to be checked regularly and topped off. Ask your service advisor to inspect fluid levels when you bring your vehicle for service or if you are going on a road trip. • Refer to your owner’s manual or ask your service advisor before adding fluid to your battery. Using tap water can shorten battery life since it often contains chemicals and minerals. Also, the acid in battery fluid can damage clothing, skin and eyes. • Use extra precaution if you have never jump started your vehicle or recharged a battery before. Check your owner’s manual for directions or ask your service advisor for assistance. • Don’t jump start or “trickle” charge a frozen battery. Likewise, don’t jump start or charge a battery that is low on electrolyte fluid. Battery rupture of explosion could result.

Unless you have a separate business entity (Corporation or LLC) you might be “doing business” but you are not truly “a business” according to lenders and creditors. Forming an LLC, C-Corp or S-Corp to operate your business under is the first step in making sure your business is kept separate from your personal finances and credit. MoneyBits Consumers are allowed to get a free copy of their credit report each year. Chances are that most only send for it when a problem arises with a loan or a hike in insurance rates. A better tactic is to send for the report annually and check it closely for accuracy. Look for errors about whether your bills have been paid on time, if you’ve paid more than the minimum payment, and your percentage of credit availability used. All of these affect your credit score. The Federal Trade Commission recently completed the fifth segment of its ongoing study about the accuracy of consumer credit reporting by the Big Three: TransUnion, Equifax and Experian. Here are some of the things the FTC discovered: --Five percent of consumers had a seriousenough error to cause them to have to pay higher interest for loans and insurance. --One in five had an error on at least one

Do I Need Travel Insurance? Q: Why travel insurance is important? A: We want our clients to have a wonderful vacation and trip insurance helps by minimizing worry. Perhaps they have to cancel the trip, or they get sick or lose their baggage. With insurance, they’re protected. Q: What types of travel insurance are available? A: There is a wide range, from policies that will reimburse you in full if cancel a trip for any reason to ones that are more restrictive. Q: How much does travel insurance cost? A: The cheapest option isn’t always the best—lower priced policies may not cover your entire investment. An agent can help you choose a policy based on your needs. Dear Kevin: Is it still possible for me to contribute to an IRA to claim a 2012 tax deduction?
-- Melissa P., Livonia, MI
Answer: If you haven’t yet established an IRA in 2012, it’s not too late. The federal government allows you to establish an IRA in 2013 for the previous tax year. The establishment deadline is the same as the tax deadline, April 15, 2013 (also April 15, in 2014 for the previous year.) The establishment deadline works just like your taxes. Your IRA application must be postmarked by midnight of the deadline to be valid. This applies to both Traditional IRA and Roth accounts. Ask Your Jeweler Dear Robert: Why is my white gold jewelry turning yellow? -- Francine G., Northville, MI Answer: Gold does not occur as white in its natural state. Gold is yellow. In fact, all metals are silvery gray in color with just two exceptions, copper and gold. White gold is created by alloying yellow gold with other metal(s) to give it a white color. A majority of white gold jewelry is then plated in rhodium, which is a form of platinum, to give it an extremely high white sheen. Rhodium Plating is a process where a tough white metal that is electroplated on top of the gold so that the yellow disappears. Almost all white gold jewelry is rhodium plated to make them a brighter and more beautiful White. Over time, this plating may wear away and that piece of jewelry may start to exhibit a yellowish tint. In addition, exposure to certain chemicals such as chlorine, or acids can cause this process to occur more quickly.

Read the Fine Print Sometimes brochures and cards that come in the mail look like something real and legitimate. I received a card that at first glance appeared to have come from Social Security. It invited me to send back the card (postage paid) to receive a free brochure entitled “New Social Security Changes and Benefits.” It was only when I looked at the very bottom at the fine print (and yes, I had to use a magnifying glass because it was so tiny) that I learned the sender was not affiliated with
the government: It was a sales pitch! When I traced down the person named on the card, it turned out he’s selling investments. I found the same card on a marketing site on the Internet. Marketing companies sell the cards as a direct-mail piece, part of a leadgeneration program for salespeople. Somehow they got my name and address, and hoped I’d fill out even more information on the card (date of birth, home phone number and email address) and mail it back to them. With that information, they could start calling me to push whatever they’re selling. I found a similar website, one that deals with promotional mailers, with this banner streaming across the top: “Social Security Leads are HOT ... mailers pulling 5 percentplus.” That means that one in every 20 people who receive the mailing piece will respond. The lesson in all this is to hesitate before you fill out something you get in the mail, even if it appears to be legitimate. Get out your
magnifying glass and look carefully. You might find a line or two of the truth at the bottom. Answer: That’s a great question and one we hear frequently especially in the winter months. There are many things that generate indoor moisture. The normal perspiration and breathing of a family of four adds about half a pint of water to the air every hour. Cooking three meals a day adds four or five pints of water to the air. In fact, every activity that uses water (like showering, dishwashing and doing laundry) adds moisture to the air. Condensation is most common in winter, but can occur whenever water vapor in the air comes in contact with a surface temperature lower than the dew point. There are however a few simple tricks to solve the problem. Opening curtains and blinds during the day allows the circulation of warm air over the glass surface and can minimize condensation. A hygrometer (an inexpensive tool that can be found at your local hardware) can assist in monitoring your humidity level. A comfortable level of relative humidity in the winter is between 25% and 60%. And last but not least, replacing your windows with new energy efficient products can not only help with humidity but save money on your heating and cooling costs.

Entry Door Purchase
Perhaps the first thing we want to do is look at the colors in the area of the front door, and make the determination as to whether we want to stain or paint the door. We then need to look at glass patterns and if you are using a leaded glass we need to start thing about the color of the caming as we want to make sure everything will come together at the end. Therma Tru has a wonderful selection of different types of glass and patterns within the glass. The shape of the glass is also important as sometimes it can be awkward if you try and introduce an oval or rounded piece of glass into a home that has all squares and straight lines. We then need to consider the hinges and threshold colors as with caming choices, again when we are done we want everything to come together.

Contractor Help

James Kern
Dear James: How Should I Choose A Painting Contractor?-- Ashleigh E, Farmington Hills, MI Answer: Painting a house is not easy: it requires physical labor, many hours of time, and climbing high on ladders. To do it right, one needs the right tools, workers, and an understanding of different products, surfaces, and techniques. It may seem difficult to find the right contractor for the job, but using the following steps, you can make the best decision. Talk to your friends, family, and co-workers and reference online sources, including Angie’s List. Look at the reviews of contractors and pick out ones that seem like a good fit for your needs. If you can, talk with customers to find out how the painter responded to the customer’s needs and requests. Don’t be afraid to ask questions! For example, did the painters show up on the date and time they said they would? If there was a change, did the contractor communicate effectively with the homeowner? Did the contractor properly prepare the surface before painting? (This includes scraping, patching, caulking, and priming). Did the painters keep a clean jobsite? Was the homeowner happy with the end result? When the salesperson arrives, ask how long the company has been in business and what their personal experience they have in the industry. Make sure to take note of your interactions. Were they courteous and on time? Did they rush the visit or take the necessary time to inspect the project area(s)? Did they mention any potential problem areas and make suggestions as to the type of products that would work best? After your questions have been answered, ask for references from similar projects. Additionally, make sure that the contractor gives you an exact price for the work so that there are no additional costs. You should ask for proof that they are fully licensed and insured, and, if applicable, have lead certification. Lastly, make sure that a specific time frame is set so that you can fit the project into your schedule and are not left wondering when your painters will arrive. I wish you luck with your painting project and I hope this article has helped! James Kern is the owner of Work of Art Painting 8143 Stonegate Dr., Northville 48168 Tel: (503) 449-5637
Question: Why does a security deposit protect the landlord? --Martha P. Livonia, MI
Answer: A security deposit is only good for keeping “honest people honest.” However, it also has the effect of making dishonest people think twice about renting your property. A security deposit is surety that the tenant will perform as required by the lease. The lease protects the tenants--the security deposit protects the landlord. Places like Michigan that put a premium on tenant rights make security deposits necessary. They give the landlord leverage in cases where the tenant is delinquent, destructive, or , in some cases, demonic. ORCHARD10.COM 30835 West 10 Mile Rd Farmington Hills, MI 48336

Showing My Home
Dear Robert : I just listed my home with Century 21 Curran & Christie and I was wondering when the SHOWINGS would start? --Gay S. Farmington Hills Answer: When the showings actually begin is determined by any one of a number of things! Your listing agent came to the property, measured the rooms, took photos, had you sign contracts and prepared the marketing. When the listing agent submitted all of the marketing information to the Multiple Listing Service, the member agents and their clients were sent information about your property within 24 hours. As these clients call their agents, and then these agents call our office to request an appointment to show your home, we will contact you for permission or confirmation. Sometimes, listing agents submit the information to the MLS with a notation that the showings won’t begin for a couple of days, especially if a seller needs a little extra time to get the house “show ready.” For all intent and purpose, unless you request otherwise, be prepared for your showings to begin as soon as the contracts are signed because great agents begin working on finding a buyer as soon as they have the listing! If you’re thinking about selling your home, Century 21 Curran & Christie would like to apply for the job!

Answer: Low-e glass is manufactured by depositing a microscopically thin, transparent metal or metallic oxide layer on the glass. Low-e coatings reduce radiant heat loss, & can reduce the passage of UV rays. Use of heatresistant (or absorbing) glass began in the 1950s, as did the use of reflective (or mirror) glass.
