Bageri Brillo is home to the world's best baker The International Union of Bakers and Confectioners (UIBC) has chosen 33 year-old Håkan Johansson, head baker at Bageri Brillo in Stockholm, as World Baker of the Year 2015. This makes Håkan the first Swede to receive this prestigious title and also the youngest to have been granted this honour.

Over the course of his long career at Svenskt Tenn, the Austrian designer Josef Frank created a total of 2,000 furniture designs and 200 textile patterns. His designs, along with a selection from the rest of the Svenskt Tenn range, are now on display in a temporary shop in his hometown, Vienna. Later in the autumn, an exhibition about Josef Frank will also be inaugurated at Vienna's design and crafts museum, MAK. – This shows how current Josef Frank's

designs still are. The timelessness of his furniture and textiles means that they fit well into the present day and thanks to Svenskt Tenn, Josef Frank's designs are still in production. It is therefore natural that we would to choose to be there in conjunction with MAK's exhibition, says Thommy Bindefeld, Marketing Director at Svenskt Tenn.

The temporary shop is open from 25 November until 13 February 2016 at Volksbank Operngasse 8 in Vienna.

Asia moves into Story Hotel In August, Asia came closer to Stockholm when Story Hotel on Riddargatan opened its new restaurant, Ling Long. The restaurant focuses on flavours from Szechuan, Singapore and Bali. Umur Telmen, Anna Viola Edman and Alex Sehlstedt are behind this new venture. Umur has previously owned and been involved in running Halv trappa plus gård and Halv grek plus turk, where the rest of the trio have also worked.

Svenskt Tenn open pop-up shop in Vienna

The world's best press photographs The competition World Press Photo is now in its 58th year and is internationally renowned as the world's premier photojournalism competition.

A total of 5,692 professional photographers from 131 countries have submitted a total of 97,912 photographs to the competition, 125 of which are on display in Liljeholmstorget Galleria in Stockholm from 30 October to 15 November.

The exhibition in Sweden is organised by Canon.

Katsuya – A treasure of South Beach

A

Japanese gem centrally located in South Beach, Miami Beach. That’s the least you can say about this restaurant hidden away at Starck Hotel on Collins Avenue. It takes a bit of time to find. Some friends recommended the restaurant to us and we booked a table while we were still in Sweden, several weeks before we were due to arrive at Miami Beach, Florida.

Once we finally find our way in we spend a few minutes waiting at the bar until our table is ready. The drinks are pricey, but mixed to perfection. As we are being shown to our table we notice that the restaurant is round, with most of the tables hugging the walls and a couple in the middle.

Our waitress takes us through the

menu, offering tips on favourites and dishes we just have to try. We go with half of her recommendations, skipping the Kobe beef after seeing the price. Instead we opt for lobster, Brussels sprout salad, sushi with salmon and a wonderful hot porkbased dish that I can’t recall the name of.

The lobster au gratin melts in the mouth. The Brussels sprout salad is beautifully balanced with almonds and a soya balsamic dressing. To complement the food we are served a white wine that brings out the Japanese and American influences to a level beyond that of previous meals during our stay in Florida.

What more can we say than to wish our stomachs and wallets had been a little larger, so we could have managed even more.

he former Desperate Housewives star was looking stunning in a white David Koma dress with diagonal cut-outs.

Also at fun-filled family afternoon of culinary demonstrations and cooking activities were Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting and Ryan Sweeting, Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott, Jesse Metcalfe, Cara Santana, Lou Diamond Phillips and Dre Davis, among others.

The stars were also there to support No Kid Hungry, a campaign of anti-hunger organization Share Our Strength that connects children in need with nutritious food and empowers families across the country to cook healthy, affordable meals together.

Speaking at the event, Eva opened up about what she likes to cook for her boyfriend, businessman Jose Antonio Baston.

She also talked about the secret to her amazing body, her diet regime and guilty pleasures, her shopping habits, fashion faves and more...

You look amazing, who is your dress by?

– David Koma.

Why did you decide on this look?

– I love white because white’s my favourite colour and then I realised I was cooking and I was like, ‘Oh sh—t, that’s probably a bad idea.’ [laughs] And then it felt summery with all the cutouts. So I’m trying to get all my white and summery in before Labour Day.

Janie Bryant is the costume designer for your new tv show Hot & Borthered – are you loving the clothes?

– Love her, she’s a genius. Janie Bryant was from Mad Men so we scooped her up as soon as Mad Men was over and our show is like a hair, make-up and wardrobe dream because it’s big and loud and there’s gowns and lashes and hair pieces and so everybody is in like a stylist’s dream.

– Oh my gosh, every day I have an amazing dress.

This week I have an orange, corset, panty all the way up and it has this chiffon. So I think I’m coming from like court. [laughs]. I’m like I just arrived from court [laughs].

What is your jewellery?

– Martin Katz and this is oh this fabulous designer and I forget because look it’s a ring and a bracelet and he’s a big sponsor of the Global Gift Gala and I can’t remember – I’ll find out.

– It’s amazing.

Where do you like to shop online?

– I don’t shop online. I’m not an online shopper. I’m not a shopper in general actually. It’s like usually I’ll do a fitting and go, ‘Can I keep this? I’ll buy it.’ And so I usually buy stuff from photo shoots.

This event is all about nutrition and good eating – what are the ultimate foods you live by?

– You know what? I could easily be vegetarian because I love vegetables sooo much. I feel like LA is a place which can support healthy living. If you go to other parts of the country they’re like, ‘Broccolini – what’s that?!’ [laughs] So yeah, I’m a big vegetable..

I love to cook vegetables. Another secret to cooking vegetables is they don’t need a lot. A lot of people cover them in cheese or cover them in a sauce but vegetables really only need olive oil. I mean rarely, rarely do they need a lot.

You're in amazing shape! What do you do to stay fit?

– Oh my god, everything. Everything. I do Pilates, I do Soul Cycle and I’m a runner. So I’m constantly

doing something. But I like it, it makes me feel better, it gives me energy in the day. When I don’t work out I actually feel lethargic.

Do you have a favourite guilty pleasure food you like to eat?

– Pizza. Yes, I don’t get to eat it much but pizza is definitely one of my favourites.

– Pepperoni. Yes. Classic pepperoni, that’s my guilty... pizza and potato chips actually I love. I’m a salty person. Like, I’m not a sweet person. Some people are ‘Chocolate!’ or ‘Cookies!’ But I’m like, ‘Nah, I can do without it.’ But potato chips and pizza – ahh..

You recently travelled to Italy, any standout meals you had there?

– Every meal was stand out. I wanted to do a food diary it was so good.

Did anything inspire you that you want to incorporate into your own cooking?

– You know I just wish we had better access to fresher fish. Every time I ate a fish in Italy it was just like it came out of the ocean.

do like a rice cake breakfast sandwich. So it’s like a rice cake with avocado and a fried egg.

What's your best dish that you love to eat? What makes your mouth water?

– What do I love to eat? What I cook or just in general?

Yes, you.

– I have an amazing Tortilla soup that’s the most requested of my friends. It makes their mouths water so I’m always usually making that. And it takes a while so I usually make like – a lot. [laughs] Do you have any cooking tips for guys?

– For guys? You know what I always say? I go, ‘If you can read you can cook.’ There are so many recipes online, if just follow them you can cook. I think my tip would be – go beyond grilling. [laughs] Like every guy is like, ‘I’m a great barbeque-er’ and I’m like, ‘It’s not that hard.’ [laughs] So yeah, try to explore things beyond grilling, beyond barbeque-ing.

Does your boyfriend have a favourite meal you cook for him?

– Erm everything I cook for him. He likes my breakfasts. [laughs]

Tell us about your involvement with farm workers' rights!

– Well, people don’t really think about what’s in their food but where does their food come from and who are the people that are picking them. So there’s an amazing incredible labour force of farm workers that work in this country and provide us the food that we eat. So I’ve dedicated a large portion of my adult life advocating for farm worker rights, working a lot with the Dolores Huerta Foundation. And trying to prevent the dismantling of all of Cesar Chavez’s work.

What do you advise businessman on how to trade fair?

– You know I did a documentary called Food Chain which talks about fair labour treatment and there’s a fair food policy that people can sign. We’ve been getting a lot of fast food companies, Burger King, Taco Bell, Wendy’s to come aboard and in supermarkets as well. Supermarkets are a large supplier of produce. So Whole Foods was the first to come on board for fair labour standards and we’ve been working on Publix, which has not come on board but that’s the main supplier in the South East, Florida primarily.

– They do increase. Actually the numbers have been increasing every year but what we need is an accurate reflection of the population so, we’re about 16% of the population and we’re only seven per cent in television and film. That went up, it used to be five per cent in television and film and now it’s seven per cent. So we are increasing but it’s not fast enough. And what we really need to do is focus, not only on actors, we need to focus on producers, directors and writers. Because we have to create the content that we want to see in television.

Go Set a Watchman Author: Harper Lee

A sensitive matter

F

ew, if any, can have avoided David Lagercrantz’s latest addition to the bookshop shelves: The Girl in the Spider's Web. Yes, you know, the fourth part of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium series. There’s been a debate raging as to whether or not it was right of the publishing company to give David Lagercrantz the commission, and whether or not it was right of David Lagercrantz to accept it.

Comments such as “graverobbing”, “an insult to Stieg Larsson” and “ an idiotic choice” have come up, and it appears that the issue has divided literary Sweden into two camps. Personally I’m not sure where I stand, as I have some sympathy with the critics but also think that David Lagercrantz has responded well to the criticism that has been expressed.

However, continuing the work of an artist after they have left this earth is always going to be a sensitive matter.

My greatest fears are that the Millennium series will be treated as badly as the film adaptations of Sjöwall/ Wahlöö’s books on police commissioner Martin Beck; watered down and entirely lacking the characterisation contained in the books.

Moving on. The refugee issue is of course a hot topic at the moment. As always there’s plenty to learn through literature, which is why I’d like to highlight a book I’ve just read by Duraid Al-Khamisi. It’s called Regnet luktar inte här (The rain has no smell here), and it’s an important book that will get you thinking about the concept of us and them. I think everyone should read it. More to follow.

egarded as one of American literature’s real classics. An important book that still feels relevant today. For decades, we thought that To Kill a Mockingbird was Harper Lee’s only book, until the manuscript for Go Set a Watchman was discovered last year. The rediscovered manuscript soon made global headlines and many of us were delighted that it had been found and published. Harper Lee wrote the book before To Kill a Mockingbird, although chronologically the action takes place afterwards, with the return of narrator Scout, or Jean Louise Finch, to her childhood town of Maycomb (fictitious town) in Alabama. The town is home to her father Atticus, who is her big idol, and her on-andoff-boyfriend Hank. Shortly after her return, she witnesses a civic meeting attended by both Atticus and Hank, at which hostility is directed at the town’s black population. Everything that

And if you’ve read To Kill a Mockingbird, you will feel personally shocked and disappointed in the father Atticus, who in the first book was so genuinely warm.

Den gränslöse Author: Jussi AdlerOlsen A phone signal cuts through the basement of Copenhagen police headquarters, waking Detective Inspector Carl Mørck from his customary morning nap with his feet up on the desk. When Carl realises that a colleague from Bornholm wants Department Q’s assistance with an old cold case his immediate response is negative. On the other end of the line the caller silently hangs up. A few hours later it becomes clear that the consequences of Carl’s indifference have been catastrophic.

The Festival of Insignificance Author: Milan Kundera Milan Kundera is a distinguished writer with a strong portfolio of novels. He was first published in 1975 and his most famous novel is undoubtedly The Unbearable Lightness of Being. His latest book is a highly thought-provoking philosophical novella.

With both humour and seriousness, we follow a number of middleaged men in connection with a cocktail party. A delightfully good book.

Absolutely fantastic!

I

’ve sung the praises of live music on a number of occasions in this column and now I intend to again, because I have two wonderful events fresh in my mind that I’d like to take the opportunity to highlight. To begin with I’d like to congratulate the people behind the Stockholm Folk Festival on a well-organised music event. Very well done. Those of us who gathered at Hesselby Slott got to hear great artists and experience a lovely atmosphere in a wonderful setting. For anyone who didn’t manage to make it, I’d recommend looking up the Spotify list from the Stockholm Folk Festival.

I’ve had it on constantly for a few weeks now; it’s a fantastic playlist featuring a great collection of artists.

More of that please.

Another event I’d like to take my hat off to is the Stockholm Culture Festival. Offering so much to the inhabitants of the capital and its visitors is absolutely fantastic. I say it again: absolutely fantastic!

What a week! Of course I didn’t see all the things I’d planned to, but it was still a great week all the same.

Others got to experience the things I’d wanted to see and I’ve no doubt they were satisfied. There was everything from classic British post-punk, to Ethiopian global superstars.

Add to that award-winning dance companies and astounding contemporary circus at Sergels torg and you got a pretty unbeatable mix of performances. Great initiative on the part of the City of Stockholm!

Painful Artist: Beth Hart Album: Better Than Home It’s fifteen years now since Beth Hart made her breakthrough with the phenomenal LA Song. Since then she’s been increasingly drawn towards more refined blues. I think it’s the right move. This latest album is painfully good ... Meaningful lyrics based on experience brought to life with a superb voice. I’ll leave it to you to decide whether her voice bears the hallmarks of Beth Hart’s chaotic life of substance abuse and mental illness, but it’s a voice in which you can really feel the pain.

Better Than Home is an album packed with emotion, where Hart processes the darkest moments of her life with faith, hope and love.

The blues feel has always been there, but her collaboration with blues guitarist Joe Bonamassa has no doubt contributed to its more

prominent role. Despite this, Beth Hart isn’t a pure blues artist; there’s definitely some soul and roots in there too.

My only objection is the number of ballads on the album. One or two could have been dropped.

Just a bit of extra info, Beth Hart has been nominated for a Grammy for an album with Joe Bonamassa.

At the Kennedy Center Honors, she performed with Jeff Beck in a tribute to Buddy Guy and received a standing ovation from the Obamas.

It’s become somewhat of a trend to release new albums without warning. Suddenly they’re in the public domain. Wilco’s latest creation appeared over the summer to download free, and was released on CD in August. What’s it like? Well it’s not quite as polished as the previous album, but just as good. After all Wilco is hardly background music; it demands your attention. And they’re worth it.

The Telescopes invite you to take on a musical challenge this autumn. In my opinion, the band’s eighth album is obscure, hypnotic and very dark, but so incredibly inspiring. Listening to The Telescopes is like a leap into the unknown for your imagination. Once you’ve got your head around the songs you start to understand just how good the album is.

In 2005, Canadian band The Flatliners released a brilliant punk album entitled Destroy To Create.

This was followed by a couple of albums that completely passed me by. I heard them of course, but nothing more. When I stumbled across Division Of Spoils I was sceptical, but wow, what an amazing album this is. Punk album of the year so far.

Known as Scandinavia's largest ski area. Described as an authentic, genuine and down-to-earth mountain destination. Five metres of snow fall here in a normal winter. Funäsfjällen consists of the resorts Tänndalen/Tänndalsvallen, Ramundberget, Funäsdalsberget, Tännäskröket and Kappruet.

Suitable for: Those who are mainly looking for good skiing. Both young and old, depending on the resort.

Location: Härjedalen.

Getting here: Car, plane and bus via Sveg or train and bus via Röros in Norway.

Pistes: 136 pistes in five ski areas.

Restaurants and entertainment: Gourmet dining with locally produced ingredients of the highest quality and high class wines available in the area, for example at restaurant Agaton in Ramundberget, which is in the White Guide.

Romme Alpin

This resort offers skiing on 30 pistes from two peaks with a maximum vertical descent of 275 metres. In the 2012–2013 season, Romme Alpin climbed up the rankings to become the 6th most visited ski area in Sweden and is only 220 km from Stockholm and 160 km from Örebro.

Suitable for: Those who have less time; a travel day is a ski day here.

Location: Borlänge, Dalarna.

Getting here: Car or bus Pistes: 30.

P

ortland in Maine is mainly famous for three things: lobster, lighthouses and restaurants serving dishes based on organic ingredients. There are several reasons to visit Portland, but one of them is that from a cuisine perspective, the city has emerged as a frontrunner in the US. According to Portland’s chamber of commerce, only San Francisco is ahead of them when it comes to the number of eating establishments per capita.

Good time to visit Portland could almost be described as an all-year-round destination. For swimming and sunshine, the end of June until the end of September is best, and if you want to go skiing at one of the state’s resorts such as Sugarloaf, Sunday River and Saddleback, the winter months are the time to go.

Day trips The International Rose Test Garden in Washington Park is a fantastic destination for an outing.

For just over a century now Portland has been known as the ‘City of Roses’ thanks to the many rose gardens and primarily the International Rose Test Garden.

The rose garden in Washington Park has 7,000 roses of 550 different varieties. The roses are in bloom from April until October and depending on the weather, they are at their peak in June.

Hotels Westin Portland enjoys a central location in Portland, very close to the trendy shopping district Pearl and Nob Hill, which is famous for its fantastic restaurants and elegant boutiques. A single room starts at $350 a night.

The Westin Portland Harborview is conveniently close to the airport in the heart of Portland. This fourstar hotel has a spa and gym that is open 24 hours a day. Free WiFi in communal areas. Business travellers at this hotel have access to 24-hour business service and conference rooms. A single room costs $169.

The four-star Portland Regency Spa is situated in the historic waterfront district Old Port. The hotel has 95 rooms, spa and gym,

Eating out We’ve looked at some of the best restaurants in Portland. It goes without saying that fish and shellfish feature heavily on menus at the restaurants in Portland and the state of Maine, in particular lobster, which by the way is also exported to Sweden.

Hugo’s, which opened in 1999, put Portland on the map. A foreign contender on Portland’s restaurant scene is Broder Nord, a restaurant with a Scandinavian focus. From the beginning the restaurant provided traditional Swedish fare such as meatballs in cream sauce served with sherry and stuffed cabbage rolls with lingonberry jam, but these days innovations such as macaroni pudding with havarti cheese and spare ribs are being appreciated by Portland’s alfresco diners.

Nightlife A trip to Portland is never complete without a visit to one or two of the city’s distinguished waterholes. Brew pubs have long been an important feature

of Portland’s nightlife and the city now boasts no less than 70 microbreweries – and they are growing in number. Portland is often described as the beer capital of the world. All brew pubs in Portland are unique and they export their beer around the world. Kells Irish Pub opened its own brewery last year and now serves three in-house products: Irish lager, IPA and Irish Red Ale, along with Guinness, and to go with your beer you can also enjoy classic British pub meals such as Shepherd's Pie, Fish and Chips and lamb stew.

The eco-friendly Lucky Labrador Brew Pub brews its beer using water heated by solar energy – and without carbon dioxide.

Their specialities include Black Lab Stout, Stumptown Porter and Dog Day India Pale Ale. Deschutes Brewery, which is in the Pearl District, has 18 draft beers, including their own classics Mirror Pond Pale Ale and Black Butte Porter.

Rent a villa instead of checking into a hotel Massimo Provenza is the CEO of Massimo Villas, a company that specializes in renting holiday villas to travellers from all over the world. It's obvious that he loves Cefalu, situated on the Island of Sicily.

t's the town where Massimo Provenza is born and where he has been raised. Many people from Sweden have rented a villa thanks to him through the years. The Swedish tv-series Mästarnas Mästare was recorded at one of the villas on the list of rental properties.

When Premium Magazine meets Massimo, the interview takes place at a café by the town square close to the beautiful and popular cathedral. This town square is the natural gathering point for both tourists and people who live in this little town, to do all kinds of business.

Cefalu is unbelievably beautiful. The blue ocean looks extremely big and it’s surrounded by the big mountains around this city. The streets are very narrow and perfect if you want to go for a walk.

A majority of the houses are charming, and there are many small restaurants and cafés to choose among if you are hungry, or if you just want a cup of coffee. If you want to go for a swim in the ocean, the beach is close to the center of the city.

The personal experience and the service is very important Massimo tells us that he often become friends with his customers, and he feels that it is important that his employees and partners offers the customers personal service. The personal experience is something he returns to many times during our interview, because it is the foundation of his business idea. He gets tired of living at a hotel where everything is included. After a few days he feels that he knows everything about the place.

– You can gain a lot by renting a house during your vacation abroad, instead of checking into a hotel. In a house or a villa you can experience the feeling of being at home even when you are on a vacation, according to Massimo.

By doing it this way you will get a more genuine experience, and at the same time come much closer to the national culture. You will also need to challenge yourself by trying to understand the

local language when you decide to go shopping in the local shops and small businesses, according to Massimo.

This makes your vacation much more relaxed A vacation in a rented house or villa makes you much more relaxed. You can follow your own time management, instead of instead of adapting to other persons specific time.

– You do not need to keep track of when the restaurant is open for breakfast, or when the pool is open, if you choose to rent a house, instead of checking into a hotel. At the same time you will be able to manage your own time and relax when you are on a vacation, according to Massimo.

And you don’t need to bother to dress up the way you usually do when you go to a restaurant. So, you don’t need to think about any dress code, which is something our guests really appreciate.

But if you don’t want to cook your own dinner every day of the week, and don’t want to go out to a restaurant, you can always hire a chef. He will come to the house and prepare your dinner.

New ways to exhibit products – In a house you will have much more freedom, and you don’t need to think that you are bothering other people when you are having a party, playing loud music, or having children around. And, if anyone of you wants to go to the pool for a swim in the middle of the night, that is not a problem.
