Going on a motorhome adventure...
At this time of year many family gatherings start to center around the conversation of what they are planning to do for the summer holidays. For many families the past adventures of a road trip in a motorhome may have to wait until the petrol price comes down a bit more. However, everyone may have the pleasure of remembering and reimagining their childhood memories going camping with their family in a caravan or motorhome.
These days it seems like more and more families are choosing to go on holiday with motorhomes. The ease of packing and knowing that your home away from home has everything you need, makes the start of the journey hassle free. Being on the open road and choosing to make a detour anywhere for a picnic or overnight stay is so much fun in a camper van. Whether you are travelling down to the coast or choosing to explore some of the backroads of the cape, South Africa has many scenic camping sites that are waiting to be explored.
Many motorhomes can cater for families up to 6 and come fitted with electricity and gas hubs as well as a microwave, air conditioner and fridge/freezer. Families with small kids especially enjoy the ease and convenience of sleeping under one roof while enjoying the great outdoors.

Our 15-member squad was arguably the youngest squad at the national soccer tournament. In the final, we went to a penalty shoot-out against Curro Aurora who were fantastic throughout the tournament. We beat them 3 – 1 in the shoot-out!English Olympiad
We are delighted by our students achievements in the 2022 English Olympiad and celebrate the success of Malaika Delporte who achieved in the top 50 places in South Africa. She has been awarded a year’s free tuition at Rhode’s University.
REDDAM HOUSE GREEN POINT
The fashion show took place on 10 and 11 August 2022. The theme this year was Trend is Dead - the students focused on sustainability and finding your own style. They promoted several charities on the evening of the show, encouraging parents and students to support green companies and charities which focus on recycling material. Held at The One and Only on Saturday 30 July 2022. A cocktail held at school for the parents was hosted by the current Grade 11 students. The Grade 7 students met their mentors with their parents on the red carpet mid afternoon and many photographs were taken. A glittering affair took place after that for the Matrics and their partners. Malaika Delporte DanceFashion Show Fashion ShowWYNBERG BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL

Junior World Rowing Championships
We are incredibly proud of Sasha Mosig (E’22), and his coach Bevan Stephens (current head coach of Rondebosch Boys’ Rowing), who competed in the Junior World Rowing Championships, held in Varese, Italy from 27-31 July 2022.
Sasha was selected for the Single Scull Boat Race - traditionally, the most competitive boat class to compete in at the event, with over 29 nations sending their best rowers to compete.
Sasha drew a very challenging heat, which left him to face up against 4 of the best European juniors (3 of whom were in the top 4 at the European Junior Rowing Championships).
Sasha put together a fantastic race, with a late surge to the line as the final decider between 5 boats, all within a second of each other. Sasha finished in 5th, with a personal best time of 7:06:57. Sasha’s final race was commanding, where he took the lead from start to finish. A great way to reconcile the tour, where Sasha received numerous compliments from the commentators.
Sasha is also ranked the 13th fastest U19 sculler in the world and has developed an international reputation for being a fierce competitor with explosive finishing pushes that often take the other world-class contenders by surprise!
Congratulations, Sasha!

Rondebosch 200th Rugby Derby!
The first record of any competitive RBHS rugby match was in 1904 and our opponents then were Bishops - the score was 3-3. The first official Bish-Bosch derby was played in 1911. Well over a century later the derby is the biggest and most anticipated sporting event at Rondebosch Boys’ High School with thousands of spectators supporting from the stands and watching the streaming services. The records reflect that the two schools’ First XVs have played each other 199 times, Rondebosch winning 79, Bishops 101 and with 19 draws – 9 of these were 3-all. The average point difference is merely 3.6. Rondebosch won 6 of the last 10 encounters with 1 draw. Rondebosch did not lose in 22 matches from 1962 to mid-1973, and Bishops’ longest unbeaten run was from 1986 to 1993 (16 matches). 22 Bosch teams have done the double of winning the home & away fixtures – the first in 1944 and most recently in 2017.
A greatly respected and valued tradition is that the Rondebosch First XV mostly plays in blue against all other opposition, but when they run through the schoolboy tunnel onto The Tinkie Heyns Field they are kitted in white jerseys and Bishops in blue. Although there is intense rivalry on the field, both schools have considerable pride in having each other as traditional rivals, and the convivial spectator interaction after matches, irrespective of the result, is a unique feature of the friendship between Rondebosch and Bishops extending well over 100 years. The rivals at school often become lifelong friends as Old Boys of the two neighbouring schools.
Competition
The RBHS Inter-house Public Speaking Competition was held on Tuesday evening, on the second day of English Week. It was extremely tight, but ultimately, congratulations must go to Canigou (Morgan Peters and Eben Labuschagne) for winning, as well as to Harry Soboil (Marchand) and Eben Labuschagne (Canigou) for winning Best Speaker in the Junior and Senior categories respectively.
