Interesting facts of FIFA World Cup 2022
First-ever Winter World Cup
The 2022 edition of the competition would be the first-ever winter World Cup, if considered from the northern hemisphere. The World Cup usually takes place in mid-year but when it came to Qatar, an exception just had to be thrown.
The Most Expensive
As per an estimate, Qatar is spending a whopping $200 billion on infrastructure projects. That’s nearly 10x more than the next most expensive World Cups, Brazil (£11.6 billion) and Russia (£14.2 billion). This is partly because Qatar is building seven brand new stadiums from scratch. It’s also nearly 64x the $3.5 billion South
Africa invested in its World Cup. This will make the upcoming event one of the most expensive World Cups in the history of the game.
Fewest Stadiums
Only eight stadiums have been lined up by Qatar to host the World Cup which is the lowest number of venues for the World Cup in recent years. In fact, out of all the eight venues selected to host the tournament, only one got revamped completely while seven are being newly constructed in the country.
Record Number of Visitors
As per an estimate, the Qatar FIFA 2022 World Cup may well end up receiving a
record number of visitors by the time the tournament comes to an end. The country expects to welcome the largest influx of over 1 million international spectators . It’s estimated that 1,300 incoming flights will land in the country daily throughout the competition. The reason behind this is easy to grasp. Being one of the finest countries in the Middle East, Qatar’s convenient geographic location makes it lie in close proximity to most nations.
The Most Commutable Qatar is a small country. It is, in fact, way smaller than the host of the World Cup 2018, Russia. Since the size of the country is so small, commuting from one place to another here is not a big hassle.

Host cities like Doha, Lusail, Al Wakrah, and Al Rayyan are located in close proximity to each other. Hence, moving from one venue to the other wouldn’t be a big hassle for travelers. Another interesting fact is the two most remote stadiums of Qatar -- Al Bayt and Al Wakrah -- are only 90 miles apart.
Air-Conditioned Stadiums
One of the most important points to note about the host nation for FIFA 2022 is the fact that Qatar receives distressingly
high temperatures during day times. To tackle the issue, Qatar came up with an audacious solution. For the first time ever, a country is set to host the FIFA World Cup in fully air-conditioned stadiums. All eight venues in Qatar will be fully airconditioned, providing a comfortable viewing experience to fans while making the conditions good enough for players to perform on the pitch. That translates to roughly 43,560 household air conditioners per stadium or a whole lot of industrial fans.
BTS’ Jungkook will perform at the 2022 FIFA World Cup’s opening ceremony in Qatar and appear on the tournament’s official soundtrack.
The opening ceremonies will happen on Sunday, Nov. 20, at Al Bayt Stadium in Qatar.
FIFA announced the official soundtrack for the World Cup earlier this year.
It includes three massive tracks — “Hayya Hayya (Better Together),” “Arhbo” and “Light the Sky” — that will dominate the air waves during the world’s biggest soccer tournament.

The Second One In Asia

Micke het aan die WesKaapse uitdunne van die Con Spirito Kultuurvereniging deelgeneem in die kategorie vir Graad 10 – 12-leerders, en het uitsonderlik presteer in al vier afdelings waarin sy deelgeneem het: Afrikaans Huistaal Voorbereide Redenaars (95%), Afrikaans Gedramatiseerde Prosa (95%), Afrikaans Monoloog (97%) and Afrikaans Voorbereide Lees (95%).
Micke is ook aangewys as die itemwenner van die Monoloog- en die Voorbereide Lees-afdeling.
Hiermee het Micke gekwalifiseer om die WesKaap te verteenwoordig in die Nasionale Forté Rondte.
Tygerberg Eisteddfod
Micke van der Westhuizen het onlangs by die Tygerberg Eisteddfod, Hoogste Lof, vir Gedramatiseerde Prosa ontvang waar sy ook geskitter het. Verder neem sy ook deel aan die finale rondte van die Podiumpret Redenaarskompetisie en kwalifiseer om aan die Wes-Kaap finaal van Radikale Redenaars deel te neem.
Erin Cozett received a trophy from the Tygerberg Eisteddfod for ‘Best interpretation: Musical’ in the Singing Category. Nicole Müller won the category for ‘Microphone singing: Girls 16 years’.
The Brackenfell u.17 team travelled to Pretoria to compete in the Frogfoot Championship at Loftus. Only twelve teams from all over South Africa were invited to take part in this prestigious competition. It was an honour and privilege to have been invited.

Atletiek
Laerskool Gene Louw se top atlete is na afloop van hulle Interhuisbyeenkoms aan die begin van hierdie kwartaal aangewys. Van hierdie Atlete het skaars kans gehad om asem te skep voor hulle hul skool die volgende dag op 20 Oktober by die Laerskool Eversdal Junior Leeraflos Atletiekbyeenkoms moes verteenwoordig. Die onder 7- en onder 8-aflosspannetjies het die skool se naam hoog gehou en in al hul items eerste of tweede plekke geneem.
Twee dae later het 11 van Gene Louw se top atlete aan die Lochnerhof Top 12 Atletiekbyeenkoms in Strand deelgeneem. Die sterk Suid-Ooster waarvoor die Helderberg bekend is, het die atlete nie afgesit nie en hulle het in totaal vier goue, sewe silwer- en vyf bronsmedaljes huis toe gebring; 16 medaljes in totaal vir die 12 atlete.
Imke Roux (o.11), spogatleet uit die Gene Louw-span, is boonop aangewys as die beste meisiesatleet en algehele beste atleet uit alle ouderdomme van die byeenkoms.
Op Vrydag 28 Oktober het vier van Gene Louw se atlete saam met hul afrigters die mooi pad Overberg toe gevat om aan die Hoërskool Bredasdorp Top 10 Atletiekbyeenkoms deel te neem. Ook hier het hulle seker gemaak almal weet wat steek in die Genies en weggestap met twee goue medaljes, twee silwermedaljes en drie bronsmedaljes. ‘n Trotse dag vir Gene Louw waar Imke Roux ook weer uitgestaan het en die trofee vir die Beste o.11-Meisiesatleet by die byeenkoms ontvang het.
Die Gene Louw-atlete berei tans voor vir ‘n nuwe byeenkoms wat in die tweede week van die eerste kwartaal by Laerskool Gene Louw aangebied sal word.
