October is National Family Health Month!

Our health is important to us so we need to better take care of ourselves and our family.

We can start with eating healthier and having healthy eating options for our family. This can be done by eating five fruits and vegetables each day whether that be fresh, frozen or canned. Instead of having sugary drinks, sodas, and sugary juices switch to low fat diary products and opt out to have healthy snacks instead of junk food. It’s also important to give the proper portions of food to to our children and ourselves. Cut down on the fats, get lean meats and poultry, and eat together as a family. We need to start early with our children, we can do this by involving them in the process, being a good role model for them, and having the right foods and snacks available for them.

The best way to do portions for children and us is to use a divided

plate. The plate should be divided into four parts the first top half should be protein and then whole grain pastas, then the rest should be for fruit and veggies.

We can keep our families healthy with exercise, preventive care, being attuned to our bodies, avoid smoking and smoking around children.

Adults from the age of 18-64 need to exercise 2 and half hours a week with aerobic exercises and 10 minutes at time as a minimum, but it’s best to do 5 hours a week of moderate aerobic exercise.

For children 6-17 years of age they need up to 60 minutes a day of physical activity. Children should try to incorporate exercise that help strengthen bones and muscles.

Children 2 to 5 years of age don’t really have a recommended amount of time but, it’s safe to say that they should play actively as well.

Walk the dog together 6. Have the kids work in the yard with you 7. Garden together 8. Have a weekly sports night 9. Sesame-seared tuna with a Sweet and Sour Twist Serves 4

The tuna needs to be fresh and deep red – and I mean really fresh.

INGREDIENTS: • A little oil for searing • 1 tbls, fresh ginger, grated • 2 cloves garlic, crushed • 2 spring onions with tops very finely chopped • 1 tsp sesame oil • 1 tbls soy sauce • ¾ cup Wellingtons Sweet and Sour Sauce • 4 thick slices of raw tuna • 2 tsp sesame seeds, toasted

METHOD: Mix all the ingredients together, except the tuna and sesame seeds.

Lay the tuna in the marinade for 15 minutes, turning once.

Remove the tuna from the marinade and set aside.

Tydens die afgelope vakansie het hulle aan die SuidAfrikaanse Gimnastiek Kampioenskappe in Pretoria deelgeneem en gesamentlike brons op die balk (vlak 4) verower. Albei se gemiddeld 9.23 algeheel.

MOTORFIETS UITHOURIT

Dit is ‘n baie groot eer en prestasie dat NBUITGEWERS ‘n skrywerskontrak met twee van Hugenote se leerders gesluit het vir hul nuwe verseboek, genaamd RYMPIES VIR PIKKIES EN PEUTERS. Dit beteken dat die twee leerders se name langs bekende digters soos Jaco Jacobs en Riana Scheepers in die verseboek sal verskyn.

Etienne en Stefan Zybrands het aan die nasionale-en streek motorfietsuithouritkampioenskappe deelgeneem.

Etienne het in die 85cc-klas deelgeneem en derde in die nasionale kampioenskap gekom. Stefan het in die 65cc-klas deelgeneem en het tweede in die nasionale kampioenskap en eerste in die streekskampioenskap gekom. Hy loop voor in die streekskampioenskap en is tot dusver die algehele wenner.

LANDBOUWEEK 2015

Verskeie Landboukursusse is vanaf 13 – 15 Oktober 2015 by Boland Landbouskool aangebied.

Die onderskeie opleidingsgeleenthede dra by tot die praktiese assesserings van die onderskeie Landbouvakke wat aangebied word. (Landbouwetenskap, Landboubestuurspraktyke en Landboutegnologie.)

Die skool se landbou-afdeling het ‘n praktiese les aangebied waar die Gr. 8- en Gr 9-leerders geleer het hoe om hoenders te slag. Die leerders het meer geleer oor die verskillende stappe wat gevolg moet word om ‘n hoender te slag, asook hoe die dier se spysverteringstelsel werk. Hierdie groep het ook ‘n lesing ontvang wat deur Jansie Steenkamp aangebied is oor die beheer, bestuur en jag van probleem-diere op plase. Cape Gate Draad- en staalwerke het vir twee dae met die gr 10-seuns gewerk. Hulle het ‘n draadspan en algemene draadwerk-

kursus aangebied. Drie spesialiste het oor twee dae met die seuns gewerk en belangrike teoretiese - sowel as praktiese vaardighede vir hulle aangeleer.

Die Gr. 10 Landboubestuurpraktykeklas het Star Grow se kwekery op Citrusdal besoek. Leerders het ‘n lesing gehad oor verskillende metodes om plantmateriaal te vermeerder asook te verbeter. Daarna het die leerders prakties gedoen wat die enting en okulering van vrugtebome behels het.

Die leerders kon elkeen hulle ge-ente boom terugneem plaas toe. Agrimotion het ‘n baie interessante lesing en prakties vir ons gr 11-seuns aangebied.

Hulle het die kennis wat die seuns in die klas leer in die praktyk gedemonstreer.

Hier is ‘n grondwetenskaplike besig om ‘n profielgat te analiseer. Die Gr. 11-leerders was ook by ‘n wolskool en vleisbees-evalueringskursus wat beide deur BKB aangebied is.

It is held annually in its current format since 2003 and originated from a farmers’ day in 1993. Since then, its developed into the biggest expo of this nature in the southern parts of South Africa. Alta Brink het tydens die TSA-Meesters toernooi skoonskip gemaak en die afdeling vir dogters 12-jaar en jonger gewen. Die TSA Meesters is ‘n toernooi waar die top 12 tennisspelers in SA per ouderdomsgroep deelgeneem het.

Vrydag, 16 Oktober het ons matrieks vir oulaas die tradisionele klok gelui met hul laaste uitstap uit ons skool. Die groep het diep spore getrap en ons salueer hul daarvoor!

HUGENOTE “CARE”!

Die Blackies het weereens gewys hulle kan saamstaan. Na ‘n suksesvolle Rugbyraai, het ons R49 000 ingesamel. Dit gaan aangewend word om te help met Sibu Sijaji se mediese kostes en die res sal versprei word tussen instansies in Wellington.

NUWE HOOF VIR HUGENOTE

Mnr. Wikus Naudé is aangestel as nuwe skoolhoof van Hugenote Hoërskool. Hy sal die pos op 1 Januarie 2016 betrek.
