Dye your Easter eggs

What you will need:

Hard-boiled or fresh eggs, Food colouring, White vinegar , Measuring spoons and cup, Bowl, Spoon, Paper towels, Round stickers, Painters’ removable tape, cut into thin strips.

Hint: You can either hard-boil eggs before you dye them, or blow them after dyeing. To reduce the chances of your eggs cracking when hard-boiling, use very fresh eggs and make sure they are at room temperature. Cook in a small saucepan so eggs move around less, and remember they should simmer rather than boil. To blow eggs, use a long needle to make a small hole at each end of egg. Place your mouth on one end and blow the contents into a bowl. Rinse egg out with water and a little vinegar then allow to dry on paper towels.

How to dye: Fill a bowl with 3 cups hot water, 2 tbs vinegar, 3 capfuls blue food colouring and 1 capful red food colouring. Mix to combine, then dip eggs in, carefully removing with a spoon when they reach desired. www.homelife.com.au

High protein and low fat recipe Life without delicious, gorgeous foods would be completely dull without any flavours to look forward to for dinner.

One of the main questions asked within the industry is: What foods make you fat?

There are many myths that people are made to believe with regards to eating and living healthy.

Our answer to this question is: Natural fats that come from animals, vegetables and even fruits are exactly what the human body requires to function fantastically without fail. The intake of these fat groups provides the body with the correct nutrients, vitamins, proteins and minerals to prevent flu for example.

Parsley

The main key is to consume everything in moderation.

Parsley is slightly peppery and bright herb.

There are two main varieties of parsley - curly leaf and flat leaf. Curly leaf is probably the most recognizable, as restaurants often use it as a garnish on their plating, but both varieties are widely used in cooking.

Parsley is a great source of vitamin C, calcium, iron and fiber. Raw parsley also acts as a breath freshener and has anti-inflammatory properties.

How to Use Parsley in Your Cooking: Because of its light scent and fresh taste, parsley can be used in anything from soups to sauces to vegetables.

Tips with Parsley: 1. To store parsley, rinse with cool water and then wrap in a slightly damp paper towel in a resealable plastic bag and keep in the fridge.

2. Infuse your homemade dressing with chopped parsley for maximum flavor while you’re putting together a salad.

400g sirloin A-grade Fresh chopped garlic Fresh parsley Freshly squeezed lemon Fresh chopped onions Crispy carrots Baby marrows Fine cut butternut Olive oil

3. You can dry your fresh parsley by tying a bunch together and hanging it upside down in a cool, dry place. When the parsley is completely dry, remove the stems and store the dried leaves in an airtight container. You can also dry out your parsley in a slightly warm oven or in a dehydrator.

Lightly sear sirloin 3 minutes a side in the pan while your cut up veggies are roasting in the over drizzled with olive oil. Veggies should take 35-45minutes on 180 degrees.

Fun in the sun

The Foundation Phase held a ‘ Water Games Day’ recently that was thoroughly enjoyed by all the learners. They participated in many different activities, such as the giant water slide, bobbing for apples, spoon and balloon pool race and many more.

The educators joined in the fun and seemed to enjoy themselves as much (if not maybe even more than) the learners.

Foundation Phase Spelling Bee

A group of our Foundation Phase learners participated in the SACEE Spelling Bee hosted by George Randell Primary School. The theme of this event was ‘Pirates’. Our learners had a fabulous time. Lilyfontein Primary APRIL 2014 5 Grade 3’s Take to the Beaches

The Grade 3’s had their Adventure Camp at Rendezvous camp site in Cintsa West.

The focus of this camp is on teamwork.

The grade 3’s were given many tasks over the three day camp which required them to work together for success.

Grade 6’s Cycle Around Kei Mouth

The Grade 6 Adventure Programme theme is cycling. This took the grade 6’s and their bikes off to Kei Mouth for a three night camp. Each day they cycled approximately 20kms, including a climb to the Morgan Bay cliffs and a trip across the Kei River by pont into the Transkei.

Foundation Phase Fun Gala It was cloudy and chilly but this didn’t dampen the spirits of the grade 1-3 learners that all took part in their annual Fun Gala. But this is no ordinary gala. In true Lilyfontein, adventure school style, our gala is held in the School Dam.

Teams had to work together to fill a bucket and move it up the beach without it touching the ground.

Following a series of clues, the Grade 4’s were led to various artefacts within the German Settlers’ section of the East London museum. What a fun way to get our local history across to the learners.

George Randell Primary 6 APRIL 2014 Raising Funds

Marimba Band performed at the Vincent Park shopping centre to help raise funds to attend and participate in the Steel Band competition in Johannesburg later this year. It was very well received by the shoppers who paused to listen and enjoy the music.

Spelling Bee

The theme of the Spelling Bee was Pirates and The George Randell Primary prefects lent a helping hand, while joining in the fun dressed according to the theme.

Part of the School’s Birthday Assembly and celebrations was the school choir under the conductorship of Mrs Benedicta Fokaze and accompanied by pianist and choir director Mrs Wendy Benito.

SACEE

Proud hosts of the first ever Border SACEE (South African Council for English Education) Spelling Bee held at their school. The Georgie team with Grade 3 teacher, Mrs Ros Whittal, gear themselves up for demonstrating their ABC’s!

Celebrated the School’s 103rd Birthday last week! It’s guest of honour was an ex. - Georgie, Mrs Melonie Gobel. Pupils listen intently to her powerful message, as she emphasized the importance of having a passion and not allowing any stumbling blocks to deter one from making it happen.

Rugby and Netball

On the Saturday, the school hosted a U11 Rugby and Netball tournament in honour of the Deputy Principal, Mr. Richard Kent, who has taught and coached children sport for 44 years and for 16 years at George Randell Primary.

The day was a great success with all schools playing hard but fair.

Grade 3 learners invited Mrs. Clarke (teacher in charge of collecting Coppers for Cancer) to their first ever class auction. They auctioned off several stationery items and raised a good sum of money to give to Mrs. Clarke. The children thoroughly enjoyed the leaning experience of how to be an entrepreneur in helping others.

Cambridge Primary Swimming Congratulations to Sinoxolo Dyantyi on making the South African Swimming Team for the CANA Level III and IV Swimming Champs to be held in Uganda. Well done on this fine achievement.

Clarendon Preparatory School APRIL 2014 7 Ipads

IPADS, Being a school that promotes the skills of our 21st Century learners, our Grade 3’s have successfully implemented the use of iPads into their lessons. From creating storybooks to recording orals, the girls are thriving on this added dimension in their learning.

Creative Talents

Grade R’s have already shown us their creative talents this term. They have explored box construction, clay modelling, hand painting and papier-mâché to name but a few activities. We look forward to seeing what other interesting creations are made throughout the year!

Swimming

New Swimming pool, The construction of the swimming complex at the Prep is finally underway. The three Clarendon schools form a unique and formidable partnership in education and this facility will ensure the successful swimming for all girls from Grade 00 (four year olds) to Matric. The sod-turning takes place early April and the pool is due for completion on 8 September 2014. Sufficient funding has been raised with the exclusion of internal arrangements such as the grand stand. It is due for completion in October.

Dramary

With our new-look ‘Dramary’ Centre (Library, Media and Drama), our Preppies have enjoyed the activities, stories and lessons provided

by Mrs Maker and Mrs Stockenström. Dr Seuss has been the focus of this term with many zany hats and recipes created!

Beaconhurst Primary Primary School Creative Arts Evening Swimming

At Beaconhurst School we value our Culture department very much. Every year the creative arts team puts together an evening where Creative Arts is celebrated in the school, and every year this is an astonishing display of talent and hard work. This year proved to be no different, with performances by the various choirs, percussion band, dancers, drama students and even the artisits amongs us were celebrated as their creations were put up in the foyer. The evening was a raging success and thouroughly enjoyed by all. We can now look forward to see what the High School will have in store for us.

Estiaan Terblanche, one of our Top Swimmers did extremely well at the SA Level 2 Regional Age Group Championships held at the NA Smit Swimming Pool in Oudtshoorn 20-13 March 2014. Estiaan placed first in his age group for both the 100m and 200m Breaststroke events, and placed 5th in the mens U/14 50m Breaststroke. He also participated in the 50m and 100m Freestyle where he placed 11th and 10th respecfully. Well done, Estiaan.

Culture Department heads to Port Elizabeth

Recently the Culure department took 13 of the music academy learners to Port Elizabeth to see Konstantin Soukhovetski perform, with the Eastern Cape Phillharmonic Orchestra at the Feather Market Hall. The trip was an amazing oppurtunity for the learners to see a live orchetra perform, as many of them have never seen an orchestra perform with an internationally renowned pianist. Thank you to the Mrs Salzwedel and Mr O’Reilly for organising and taking the learners on this trip.

Sprayathon

Foundation Phase Reading Week

Beaconhurst learners responded enthusiastically to a call by the Department of Education for a “Reading Week” by dressing up as characters from their favourite books and stories. The learners were able to parade their outfits in the school hall for all to see.

The day was thoroughly enjoyed by all the learners and teachers.

Beaconhurst School is often involved in various outreach projects. Every year we participate in the annual sprayathon where learners and teachers together get their hair sprayed or gelled with the most outrageous colours for CANSA. This event is enjoyed by all of the learners and teachers.
