Idees vir ’n Warm Winterhart-projek
D
ie winter is hier! Gaan kyk ’n bietjie in jou kas – en loer sommer in jou broer of suster of ma of pa s’n – en tel ’n bietjie
Onthou die Engelse spreekwoord: “One man’s junk is another man’s treasure!” MAAK KLEINGELD GROOT!

LIFESTYLE - MATRIC MAGIC
http://maxmatric.com/ matric-dance/
2 JUNE 2014
our matric dance can be one of the most spectacular nights of your schooling career and will be a memory that you never forget. But to get the most out of your night, you need to be sufficiently prepared so that you can have a stress-free, fun evening! HOW TO PREPARE - GIRLS: * The early bird catches the worm If you are going to get your hair, nails and make-up done by professionals, it is best to book your appointment at least 1 month in advanced to secure your spot before the other girls steal all the good ones! * Don’t rush the fun Give yourself enough time on the day of the dance. * Don’t book all your appointments on top of one another. Start your first appointment early (about 12) so that you have spare time if any appointments run late and so that you have enough time to dress and take plenty of photos. OUTFIT 911 * Let’s be honest, split seams and pigeon-toed waddles in high heels just aren’t attractive. So, when choosing a dress, shoes and jewelry, opt for something comfortableyou will be spending approximately 6-7 hours in your outfit. * Make sure you can sit in the dress comfortably and walk in your shoes without cringing, especially if you plan on dancing the night away. HOW TO PREPARE - GUYS * Suite up When choosing a suite, go for an outfit that you won’t get too hot in. You will probably spend most of the night without your blazer on, so make sure your shirt underneath is looking snazzy. * It’s a good idea to order/book your suite about 2-3 months before the dance.
BOYS AND GIRLS DATE DILEMMAS * To get the most out of your night, you should try to pick a date who you can talk to easily and who you get along with well. * Also, you need to give your date enough time to prepare themselves for your big night, so don’t leave the asking part for too late. Asking two months prior to the dance gives your date enough time to sort out their necessary arrangements.

KEEP IT CLEAN * You may already be 18, but help a brother out and keep it clean for this once? * Stay clear of alcohol, smoking and drugs before and during the dance. Its best not to indulge afterwards too because this really is a night that you want to remember… * Out of respect for your peers, teachers, parents, organizing committee and school, be well behaved and have some good oldfashioned innocent fun! * Don’t leave the party till after the dance WHAT TO EXPECT? * On the night At the dance itself, there will be plenty of mingling and chatting. From the arrivals to the photos, there will be a great deal of attention on you, so prepare yourself for all the jealous eyes. . . * Food will be served and you may have to listen to some speeches and thank you’s. Clap politely and keep the sarcastic comments to a minimum. You will be smiling A LOT, so prepare for sore cheeks. All those photos will take their toll… * Lastly, just remember the whole night is aimed at allowing you to celebrate your 12 years of schooling in an enjoyable way with your friends. Make the night memory you will always cherish.

Let’s Cook! Lamb, Brinjal and Butter Bean Curry SERVES 4 TO 6 WHAT TO DO To make the curry, salt the Brinjal cubes and let them sweat for 20 minutes. Rinse under cold water and pat dry. Heat two tablespoons of oil in a large frying pan and brown the brinjals lightly - don’t cook them completely. Set aside till needed. Heat the butter and one tablespoon of oil in a large saucepan, add the onions and let them cook gently till they reduce down to two-thirds of their original size. Add a few drops of water if need be to stop them from burning. Now stir in the ginger, ground coriander, cumin, cardamom, turmeric and chilli powder, and cook stirring for a few minutes to release the fragrance of the spices, adding a few spoonful’s of warm water at a time to stop them from burning. Stir in the fresh chilli and lamb, and cook with spices for 5 minutes. Don’t let it stick. Add the tomatoes and garlic, season with salt and cover with a lid, simmering for 20 minutes. Lift the lid and add the boiling water, just enough to cover
the lamb, and stir in the cinnamon. Simmer till the lamb is tender; about 50 to 60 minutes. While the curry is simmering away, make the Raita. Place the yogurt in a bowl. Peel half of the cucumber and chop very finely. Dice the other half (with the skin on) and stir all the cucumber into the yoghurt with the cumin, mint, coriander and lemon juice. Season with salt and add a little more cumin if you like. Set aside in the fridge until needed. Just before you are ready to serve, add the beans, brinjals
and curry leaves to the lamb, and cook till warmed through. Stir in the fresh coriander and serve with roti. or steamed rice, and the cucumber and mint Raita. Tip: Cook the onions nice and slow till they cook right down. The sugars cook out of them this way, giving you an amazing curry.

Health 4 JUNE 2014 and beans are secret weapons, welldisguised in soups and stews, it will add to the good carbohydrate content, only adding value. We all know eating a diet high in sugary, refined foods can’t be healthy in any way. Instead of focussing on the no-no’s, here are the list of extra super good brain foods that will give your child the fuel they need for proper concentration and good thinking, all day long!
School is all about learning right? Every school day is characterized by an array of activities, time slots and opportunities to hear, see and experience new information and in the end LEARN something new and valuable. As all children move through the days, weeks and months they make progress in the learning process and has to make enough progress to pass on to a higher grade. Learning=Brain usage The brain...such a fragile, but wonderful organ! Almost 70% fat and 30% water, hungry for foods that will release energy at a steady pace, helping it to form and maintain neurotransmitters. The all-important ‘workers’ that carry signals from one brain cell to another. The better you feed these messengers, the more efficiently they will deliver the goods! Feed??? Yes! The brain needs fuel, and giving it the best stuff, will result in the best performance! Good brain food Feeling blue? Keep it green! better. The brain unprocessed, raw, A bit harder eating

*Vitamin B is one of the secret fighters helping to increase brain power and ability. It helps with the formation of neurotransmitters, and improving the action of acetylcholine in the brain, aiding memory. Stress depletes the body’s stores of B vitamins. Ensure to eat enough vit. B rich food on a regular basis. Eating, eating.... what about drinking?? The wonder-juice, H2O, water! Water speeds up brain function. Too little water slows it down and dehydrates the brain. When the brain is dehydrated, it releases cortisol, which

in turn shrinks the dendrites, the tree-like branches in the brain that store information and create memory....bad news for learning! You need to drink one 250ml class of clean fresh water for every 10kg body weight. Do the math and keep the glass full! A final thought....How far would your SUV travel on a glass of Orange Juice? Not far! It needs the RIGHT fuel to perform the task. Feed your brain the RIGHT foods, and get the right results! Happy brain-healthy-eating!!

WINTER HOLIDAY GUIDE 2 JUNE 2014
What do you call the best butter on the farm? A GOAT.
7. 8. ’n Fiets of ’n skaatsplank is ’n aanvaarbare vorm van vervoer. 10.

Best Car Games for Kids Banish backseat boredom without spending a cent! What do parents dread most about family road trips? It’s not the cost of filling up the gas tank. It’s also not traffic or toll roads or Sunday drivers. It’s the thought of their own little cherubs stuck together in tight quarters for hours. Luckily, there are lots of ways to keep kids happily entertained and enjoying each other’s company. And the best part? You can achieve it without spending a cent. HERE ARE OUR PICKS FOR THE BEST CAR GAMES FOR KIDS: I Spy. “I spy with my little eye, something red.” This easy-to-learn game is perfect for preschoolers, and can keep them entertained for unbelievably long periods of time. The directions are simple: One person spies something and recites the line, ending in a clue. Everyone else takes turns trying to guess the mystery item.

License Plate Game. When we were kids, everyone seemed to play the license plate game on family road trips. Armed with a pad of paper, we would write down the name of each province or district as we spotted it. The goal, of course, was to nab all provinces. If we were lucky, we’d spot a Namibian or a number plate from Botswana and Swaziland, too.
3
I’m Going on a Picnic. This alphabet-based memory game is great for kids 5 and up.
You don’t need a game board or any materials. The game can be played with as few as two players, but it’s more fun when the whole family joins in. The first player says “I’m going on a picnic and I’m bringing...” followed by something that begins with A, such as apples. The second player repeats what the first person said, but adds something that begins with B. So she might say “I’m going on a picnic and I’m bringing apples and bananas.” And so on with C, D, and the rest of the alphabet. If someone forgets an item, she is out. To be fair, feel free to be lenient and give hints to younger players. The last player to be able to recite all the items on the list wins.
4
20 Questions. This easy-peasy game is great for younger kids, thanks to its straightforward rules. Player One thinks of a person, place or thing. Everyone else takes turns asking questions that can be answered with a simple yes or no. After each answer, the questioner gets one guess. Play continues until a player guesses correctly.
5
Spot the Car. For families with ’tween and teen car hounds, this scavenger hunt is a fun alternate to the license plate game. Instead of looking for different provinces or towns, you’re looking for different car models.
Wind your way through planets and stars to get from earth to Mars. Remember to avoid those black holes!
WINTER HOLIDAY GUIDE 4 JUNE 2014

12 DINGE OM TE DOEN VOOR JY 12 IS
Twaalf is ’n soort magiese ouderdom. 2. 4. Onthou, jou gesigsuitdrukking moet
by jou klere pas.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED • Pair of old jeans • Scissors • Needle and thread • Ribbon or braided rope • Iron-on transfers, paint or patches • Velcro strips or snaps HOW TO MAKE IT 1. Begin by cutting out a back pocket of an old (but not threadbare) pair of jeans, being careful to cut outside the seams so the pocket stays intact.
Funnies!
2. Sew a long piece of ribbon, an old belt, or braided rope to the sides of the pockets to make a shoulder strap. 3. Next, let the outside of the purse become a canvas for ornaments. Decorate with iron-on transfers, fabric paint, beads, patches, or appliques. More ambitious kids might embroider their initials or other designs on the denim for an authentic seventies look. 4. To hold the purse shut, sew strips of Velcro, buttons or snaps to the inside of the pocket.
What do you call a pig that does karate? A PORK CHOP. What do you call a song sung in an car? A CARTOON. ontbyt te eet. 11. Onthou ’n flits. En as jy braaf genoeg is, ’n spookstorieboek. 12.
Slot Joa Swart
se slim kortskoppie is kort dáárna deur Nico Leonard afgerond: 10 punte elk.
