Bernice West se Lyfie het skole aan die dans

Bernice West, naaswenner van die realiteitsreeks, Maak My Famous, het `n uitdaging aan sosiale media gebruikers gerig. Al wat gebruikers moet doen is om haar te “tag” soos hulle dans op haar weergawe van Lyfie, en die wenner kry ’n kans om dit saam met haar by een van haar konserte te dans op die verhoog.

Skole het nie op hulle laat wag nie en reeds gesorg vir verskeie videos op sosiale media.

Haar album, Jona, is deur die loop van 2022 uitgereik en een van die liedjies op die album het egter op ander maniere aandag getrek! Platebaas van Inhoud Huis Musiek, Johan Vorster, het die gawe om treffers te identifiseer. Hy het die lied, Lyfie, ‘n paar jaar gelede gehoor en geweet daar is iets groter in as wat mense dink!

Bernice staan sinoniem met inspirasie en iemand waarna mense opkyk, insluitend ouer mense. Alhoewel sy haar eie musiek skryf het die platemaatskappy die liedjie aan haar voorgestel met ‘n opname in gedagte. Bernice het die potensiaal gehoor, 100% in die liedjie in gekoop en dit haar eie gemaak! Haar unieke aanslag op die vervaardiging saam met Johan en Robin Kielly het die land aan die dans!

Jannes Erasmus noem: “Ons het die duisende Lyfie dans videos op alle sosiale media platforms gesien die afgelope maand en net opnuut besef dat die boodskap van Lyfie soveel hoop aan almal bring wat dit hoor!”

Die lied het alreeds sy verskyning op trefferparades gemaak na aanleiding van stromingsdienste se data en dit is die bewys dat luisteraars dit graag sal wil hoor op radiostasies!

Dink nuut oor drukwerk by jou skool!

Die Skole Ondersteuningsentrum het onlangs die voorbeeld gebruik: om klein veranderinge aan die manier waarop inhoud oorgedra word te maak, is soos om `n kamer aan `n ou huis aan te bou. Ja, dit lyk goed, en elke kamer het sy funksie en ons doen ons bes met wat ons het. Wanneer jy egter uit die staanspoor en vir ‘n spesifieke doel ‘n nuwe, moderne, ontwerpte huis binnestap, sal jy nie terugtrek na jou ou huis toe nie, maar eerder die ou huis afbreek en van nuuts af bou.

Hoe vernuwe jy drukwerk by jou skool? Werksboeke, addisionele leermateriaal of skryfboeke is `n kopseer vir elke skool. Nie net neem dit ure om dit by die skool te bind nie, maar dit kan ook binne `n paar weke uitmekaar val. Met vandag se tegnologie is die prys vir swart en wit boeke basies dieselfde as vir kleur.

Die bindwerk verseker ook dat jou boeke waaraan jy so hard gewerk het, die hele jaar sal hou!

Raak kreatief met voorblaaie!

Het jy geweet skole kan deesdae die skryfboeke van die leerders laat druk met die skool se kleure op die voorblad? Dit skep nie net eenvormigheid by die skool nie, maar is reeds gelamineer en daarom hoef dié boeke nie oorgetrek te word nie. Die skool kan self besluit hoe breed die lyne moet wees en verkoop dan dié boeke weer aan die leerders as deel van `n fondsinsameling vir die skool.

Amantombazana Tournament

Gateway Primary School participated in the Amantombazana tournament which took place at Musina Skoonplaas stadium. There were 8 schools that participated in the 3 days knockout tournament.

Congratulations to Nthambeleni Nembudani who was selected for the Limpopo Cricket team. The team will represent Limpopo during the Regional tournament from 3 – 6 December in Gauteng.

Klas van 2022 groet amptelik

Vrydag, 21 Oktober was weer tyd vir snesies en bittersoet herinneringe tydens die klas van 2022 se tradisonele prysuitdeling en afsluitingsfunksie in die skoolsaal. Die prysuitdeling was soos altyd ‘n hoogtepunt.

Die matrieks het vir oulaas ook die geleentheid gehad om die beesklok gelui. Hierdie klokluiseremonie verander ‘n BloubloedPlasie in ‘n VolbloedPlasie en was hul laaste amptelike aktiwiteit in die skoolsaal.

Sedert 2021 het elke matriek ‘n gradeplegtigheidhoedjie wat buite die saal die lug in gegooi word.

Die oud hoofleiers, Johan van den Heever en Luané Maré het buite die saal die simboliese M aan die brand gesteek. Die leerders het daarna afgesluit met Merensky in Union terwyl die bewoë ouers toegekyk het.

Die res van Merensky wens hierdie groep alles van die beste toe vir die eindeksamen.

Friday 21 October was once again time for tissues and bittersweet memories during the class of 2022’s traditional prize giving and closing function in the school hall. The prize giving ceremony was, as always, a highlight.

The matrics also had the opportunity to ring the cattle bell for the last time. This ceremony turns a Blueblooded Plasie into a Thoroughbred Plasie and was their last official activity in the school hall.

Since 2021, every matric received a graduation cap that was thrown into the air outside the hall.

The former leaders, Johan van den Heever and Luané Maré, lighted the symbolic M outside the hall. The learners then concluded with Merensky in Union while the emotional parents looked on. The rest of Merensky express their best wishes in the coming final exams.

Laerskool Krugerspark spog as Waterberg Swem Interlaer wenners!

“Hulle het hier aangekom soos ‘n blou golf, en so het hulle die trofee kom haal!” Dit was die woorde van die aankondiger tydens die prysuitdeling by die Waterberg Swem Interlaer wat op Saterdag 5 November 2022 te Hoërskool Warmbad gehou is.

Die Krugies het hulle baie goed van hulle taak gekwyt en ook ‘n paar individuele trofees ingepalm.

High demand careers: How to get a start without a university degree

As hundreds of thousands of Matric students consider their study and career options for next year, many won’t have the option of going to university for three years to earn a degree. The good news is that some of the highest in-demand jobs in South Africa can be accessed without a graduate degree, an education expert says.

“While it is unfortunately so that university study isn’t accessible to everyone, whether it be because of finances, personal circumstances, or academic results, that doesn’t mean Matric is the end of the road for these young people,” says Siyavuya Makubalo, Marketing Manager at Oxbridge Academy, a private college that serves more than 20 000 South African distance learning students every year.

She says some of the most in-demand careers, as identified recently in a large survey by jobs portal Career Junction, are within attainable reach of young people who can’t or don’t want to go to university, whether because of circumstances or personal choice.

According to the Career Junction survey, job seekers within admin, office & support, and warehousing and logistics, have been experiencing improved employment prospects since the start of 2022, with vacancies increasing by over 17% since the fourth quarter of 2021.

Client and customer support, admin clerk, human resources, secretarial positions and call centre leadership positions have all seen a marked increase, according to the survey.

“This should come as excellent news to ambitious young people who want to further their studies and equip themselves with the skills and accreditation they need to get a foot in the door of these industries,” says Makubalo.

“Because all of these careers are accessible through vocational training, part-time and via distance learning. This means that even if you need to start work after Matric, you can still start developing your skills in a specific sector. In addition to getting you ready for a specific career, vocational training is often shorter in duration, and fees are also likely to be lower.”

Furthermore, vocational training allows students to build on previous qualifications within the NQF framework, meaning that they can start searching for a position within an industry upon achieving their first qualification, and then continue to build upon their qualifications while working.

Makubalo points out that students considering vocational training and distance study should ensure their institution of choice equips them appropriately to contribute to the workplace from day one.

“When looking at distance learning options, ask the institution how they ensure students gain the practical knowledge and skills they need to find a job, over and above the theoretical principles that form part of the curriculum. Additionally, ask them about Work Integrated Learning opportunities, student support and how their qualifications are structured to allow for further study.”

Makubalo points out that National Courses, for instance, are nationally accredited and equip students with the vocational skills and formal qualifications that prepare them for working in their chosen field. Students who completed a course at N6 level, combined with evidence of 18 months relevant practical experience, may go on to apply for a National Diploma. There are also Short Learning Programmes designed to equip students with workplace-relevant knowledge and skills in a short period of time.

“The jobs marketplace remains highly competitive, but it should come as some comfort that some professionals remain in- high -demand, and even more so that these high-in demand professions are not catering exclusively to university graduates. We encourage young people to consider their options to reach their full potential and eventually professional success. The road isn’t always easy, and it isn’t always the only road you imagined leads to success, but the road is certainly there.”

Grade 11s: Invest in your academics now, reap the rewards later

Grade 11 students preparing for their final exams of the year should aim to perform at their very best and go the extra mile where needed, as this year’s marks will not only help them start their final year off on a strong footing, but also make their road a little easier come 2023, an education expert says.

“Students and parents often consider Matric to be ‘the big one’ in terms of their academic journey, but Grade 11 is actually a very important foundational year, and performing well can make a major logistical and performance impact down the line,” says Wonga Ntshinga, Senior Head of Programme: Faculty of ICT at The Independent Institute of Education, SA’s leading private higher education provider.

“It is therefore important not to cruise along if you have been doing so, thinking that you’ll give it your all next year. Consider how seriously you will be taking your Matric final exams, and then try and replicate that effort right now in preparation for your Grade 11 finals,” he advises. Ntshinga says Grade 11 should be viewed as a foundation upon which Matric success is built, and is effectively a launch pad for one’s final year of school. So by positioning that launch pad as favourably as possible, a student will enter Grade 12 with much-needed momentum, insight and strategy.

One of the most important reasons for excelling at the end of Grade 11, is because these results can be used to gain provisional acceptance into the student’s public university or private higher education institution and qualification of choice, says Ntshinga. “Nobody knows what the future holds, so if you can start your final year of school with excellent marks, you already have a winning ticket in your

back pocket. It will take significant stress off of you to know that you are already able to start investigating your higher education options, and start applying without having to wait in the back of the queue until you are able to submit good marks achieved in Grade 12.

“Furthermore, you will be able to get applications out of the way earlier, before they start flooding into institutions. This will free up valuable mental and emotional energy which you can apply with lazer focus to your Matric studies.

And finally, if you start out poorly in Matric, you then also know you have something to fall back on while you work on improving your grades.”

Leaving applications until later in the year will likely mean one’s options become more limited, as spaces would already have started filling up, Ntshinga notes.

Viewing Grade 11 final exam preparations as part of the Matric year will also help students improve their Matric performance, he says.

“Your Grade 11 performance, including your preparation, your composure during the writing of the exams, and your actual grades, provide an invaluable baseline from which you can strategise your final school year. Devising a strategy before you set foot in the halls of Grade 12 in January will help you work smarter on the way to peak end-of-year performance.”
